UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II

whaaa…

brother, I have no words. I really don’t want to get nasty with you so I’ll leave you to be.

leaves with tail between his legs, defeated.

Anderson Silva gave me a hard-on with that knee!

COME BACK PRIDE RULES!

You’d have to be completely lobotomized to think that the force of Silva’s knee was blocked by Chael’s arms. I swear…we get the most wonderful of trolls lately. LOL…fuck that guy.

humble, don’t let this guy get to you. All of us with some actual combative experience can clearly see how devastating that knee from Anderson was and the suggestion that someone with Sonnen’s drive to win and character would throw a title fight like that is ridiculous(and even more ridiculous that he and Anderson somehow pre-choreographed THAT sequence, I mean if you’re gonna throw the fight, why not get swept and submitted, or go down and fake getting KO’d by a punch on the feet, who would choose to take a huge knee to the body?).

At this point I don’t think there is really any question that Anderson is P4P the best in MMA. Heck, there aren’t many that could make a case that they deserve to be GOAT more than him. I hope he sticks around for at least a couple more fights and we get to see him face Lombard and maybe Rashad (or if we’re really lucky he moves up to challenge Jones for the LHW belt, but at this point in his career I highly doubt that).

On a different note, did anyone else think that Tito won that fight with Forrest? I haven’t rewatched the whole thing yet, but watching it I would have given Tito round 1 and round 3 (he knocked Forrest down in both rounds and took him down and did at least a little damage while on the ground in both rounds), and given Forrest round 2. Even Forrest thought he had lost that fight (as evidenced by him attempting to walk out of the arena before the victor was announced).

As for the rest of the card:
-Cody McKenzie cannot take body shots. That was a great counter body punch by Mendes!
-Disappointed that Kim got hurt on that takedown by Maia, I was really hoping to see an epic grappling match between those two and see how Kim would be able to handle himself on the ground with Maia.
-Nice to see Cung Le get a win in the Octagon. Cote is super tough but just couldn’t seem to solve the riddle of Le’s kicks.

Tito and Forrest, well, I have a different opinion, but I understand yours.
MMA isn’t boxing, but has inherited its scoring system, for reasons that are understandable historically but serve no purpose from a mechanical perspective; the sport is simply too different.

A knockdown is nice, but since a round is sooo much longer it shouldn’t score as an automatic 10-9, even with a takedown.
Griffin outworked Tito decisively. Just the amount of jabs and lowkicks!

Cody McKenzie should do the training our troll did: let himself get hit by the largest dude in the gym in the body. Apparently, you somehow get resistent to solar plexus shots, so it should work against liver shots, too, right?

Disappointed with Kim-Maia, too. Every couple hundred takedowns, something breaks. It’s not a clean W , just like with Coleman-Rua, for instance, but it cannot be helped.

I was sure Cote would dominate in the second or third (Outpacing the older guy who is fighting with an extremely uneconomic style) but I’m glad I was wrong, as I like Cung’s attractive style.

Apparently we don’t need them since the consensus on the illegal knee seems to be that it was just fine.

OK I’ll bite:
What does the gif (above) show you that’s illegal?
The impace is a foot below Chael’s face.
And you can hit the body of a grounded opponent from every angle.

I missed the prelims (which I heard were somewhat dull) but I thought the main card was very good.

Chad Mendes is a beast.

I seriously loved all the body shots on this card, and that right to Cody’s body was well placed.

The Easton- Menjivar fight was good in my opinion, even if it lacked a finish.

Tito-Forrest- it was pretty sloppy. I think Tito won the fight though.

Kim vs Maia made me sad. I think DHK has a really good career ahead and I like his judo alot.

Silva… is a master. Seriously, this guys skills are ridiulous. St Pierre may be a very dominant fighter, but I think in terms of being an artist in the ring, Silva gets my vote. His evasion skills were superb, especially with the trip after Sonnens back fist.

That Knee to the body was something out of Ong Bak. I notice how he pushed off with the leg he threw the knee with and dropped his body weight into it, THAT folks, is textbook. Whatever this fucking moron above says about being able to take a shot like that, he is smoking crack.

Silva didn’t intentionally trip Chael. He was just ducking and moving away from Chael’s attack. His foot doesn’t even move until Chael is already falling. Chael would have fell after that attack even if he didn’t land beside Silva’s foot and hit it.

Maybe. Who knows?
I mean, good movement is characterized by setting up for eventualities.

On the other hand, Chael’s footwork, when in hand-to-hand mode is that of a (athletic) beginner, a thug basically, because he goes all-in only to switch abruptly to wrestling.

What do you mean maybe? You can see it in the replay. Chael is off balance before he even lands because he threw everything he had into that attack. Silva didn’t “trip” him.

People don’t seem to understand just how devastating Silva’s strikes are. Lots of people said the Forest Griffin fight was rigged too because of the way he crumpled after a punch Silva threw while he was moving backwards. Silva is just that good. In Silva-Sonnen I, Sonnen out-struck Silva 320-64, but you never would have guessed it by looking at their faces after the fight. Silva makes his strikes count.

Silva’s striking ability was apparent from his very fist fight in the UFC.

LOL Leben

Sonnen’s camp wants a rematch and appeal of Anderson’s win… lol

Funny. Not even the thigh hit his face, not sure how you can complain about the knee. Suppose there is a point about Silva holding onto the shorts I don’t care though.

Guess we see where Chael gets his sensationalism from.

I love that the athletic commission’s response was basically “you can appeal, but you’re full of shit.”

Ah shit. I felt sooo bad for my man Chael. That knee from Anderson was fucking brutal; proving how good, accurate and lethal he can be when throwing all sorts of strikes at different angles. I cringed @ that fucking uninspiring spinning back fist. I bet Sonnen wished he never threw that one. It definitely was the turning point of the fight.

Props to the champ. It was good to see the dominant Silva I’ve known doing what he does best. He’s proved that when uninjured, he’s simply unstoppable. And his ability to dodge punches with his guard down and punishing his opponent with quick and accurate counter punches is simply amazing.

I’d loved the fight going a bit longer, dang it. Seeing Chael talking less shit with his lips on the canvas broke my heart and I cried all night long.

His coach has got to be one of the biggest bitches if he has stooped that low.
Sonnen should change coaches. Fuck having someone lie to you like that.
Old Poliquin saying, Average the 5 people you’re around the most and that’s who you are.
Fuck having a bitch in the equation.
You want fucking warlords!!

To end the speculation

Obvious work. Money changed hands.

Anyway, the thigh makes contact with the face, but it looks glancing at best. I usually hate on Yves as a shitty ref with stoppages, and nearly pissed myself when I realized he was reffing this, but damn this was a great non-call.
