UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II

I watched the end again and I just don’t see it. ZERO punches from Silva hit flush - not even close. Middle of the forearm would hit - ridiculous. Even the knee went through both arms and the leg of Sonnen and he gets up and keeps fighting after that. I still say money changed hands under the table tonight.
Why? Sonnen would make a fuckload more money as champion, the UFC could promote him way easier, and Silva is a few fights away from retiring.
The money wouldn’t have come from the UFC. It would’ve come from Silva who wants to keep his legacy. He’s very rich, you know. From Sonnen’s perspective, would he try to win anyway, risk losing it all, or take a truckload of money and flop? He tried to flop after the knee but the referee wouldn’t call it so he got up and did it again.

RIDICULOUS.

Even Silva was surprised when Sonnen was on his ass. Silva spend like 2 seconds looking down at Sonnen and thinking “I have you now motherfucker” before that knee.
Nice psychic powers there.

Wtf is wrong with this world.

Oh yeh, that’s right we have the internet where most guys who have less athleticism and heart than my ass hair and I’m no athlete compared to what is out there.

If you cannot see what Silva did in the very first watching of that fight, then you’re not a fighter, have never fought and have no place commenting on the fight or it’s outcome.

That’s not to say that their aren’t intelligent non fighters who can see clearly and understand fighting but the majority on the internet now days are just plain fucktards.

Hat’s off to my man Silva. Too damn skilful. Even with Sonnen on top and in full mount, his skills are jack. He’s a great one trick pony, can grind you to a take down and that is it.

He did take a massive blow and props to him for trying but his legs were jelly when he did stand up.

His whole body was in shut down mode and you can see that when a high level wrestler does not even have the wits to push a mans hand off his face.

Silva is ever so gracious and complete a human being that his aggression was controlled and poised and the icing of humiliation for Sonnen was not in the devastating defeat but in Silva inviting him to his house for a bbq in true human fashion.

Robert, I’d love to see Lombard vs Silva now. It’s probably the only one left that’s worth promoting.

I’d rate Lombard up there with a punchers chance. The fight will remain standing if Silva doesn’t get taken down but with Lombards creds it probably will. If that happens Lombard can seriously fuck him up as his ground and pound is not pitter patter like Sonnens.

Something in me though tells me Silva is still too creative to lose.

Oh and the rose coloured glasses comment was fucking hilarious. Slo mo, fast mo whatever you watch it in, Silva fucked him up left right and centre.

Exactly. People just don’t get that clean blows to the body are game changers.

Your massive hard-on for Silva notwithstanding, and ignoring your theory that disagreeing with you indicates a flaw of character, I don’t understand how missing punches by 6 inches or so is something to salivate about.
I think Hector would be a great match-up. Hoping Hector doesn’t fall into that cloud of confusion that mysteriously afflict all of Silva’s opponents.

Well…your answer is right under your nose. When you actually recognize the effects of a well placed knee to the solar plexus…you’ll get it.

Big_Boss I don’t know what part of the fight you’re specifically referring to but if you’re saying something ‘forced’ Sonnen to trip why would he try a move like the spinning backfist. Fact is he wasn’t hurt before he fell. Props to Silva capitalising in deadly fashion but I’m not going to say it was an impressive win for Silva.

I think Shad presents problems. Times his shot-attempts well. He’s not a southpaw though, and Silva handles the single leg and single leg attempts well. Plus, Rashad’s chin has gotten shaken up multiple times, so I’m guessing Silva can crack that.

If he fights Silva like he did Jones, he’s fucked.
By odds I meant Silva would probably comfortably beat Rashard. That fight wouldn’t intrigue me enough to invest time and money into.

So…sad. Hard not to recognize that he slipped/tripped AFTER initiating spinning backfist…not before.

Chael was off-balanced on the end of the technique. Off-balanced as if what he intended to hit…wasn’t there anymore. HMMMMM…I wonder why. disappears in cloud of smoke

Oh for fuck’s sake. Thank you for confirming you’re not a fighter and that you have no fucking clue. I’m cutting the replay slow mo for your ignorant ass and will upload it so you can count the accurate strikes… mind you, only takes one or two from someone who actually knows how to hit as opposed to a swing your arms like a flailing chicken non puncher. Did you noticed how Silva fought with his hands down? This is utter disrespect for Chael’s punching ability because quite simply, the guy punches like a girl.

I can understand if you think that all fighters punch like Chael and hence why they need 50 or so punches to inflict any damage.

Wait on the video keyboardy…

Why all this focus on the shots that DIDN’T connect…and not the ones that count??

Because in the world of the keyboardy, it’s not how many times you can give an accurate answer, it is how many times you can strike the reply button to ensure no one else can reply after you. All about the numbers bro.
Plus, Chael’s muscles are bigger which means he should have one and the fight must have been rigged.

lol…I just don’t get how people scratch their head with this stuff. They “mystify” Anderson by not understanding basic tenants of striking in first place.

Yep and it’s simple… they really haven’t been hit in the face with a basic stiff Jab by someone who knows how to throw them, when to throw them and will never let you know that he’s going to throw it.
One of the most annoying punches in the world to cop over and over again and not have an answer for and that’s just a friggen jab.
I was mucking around 10 mins ago with my brother who was over and watched the fight. He was sitting on a coach, bum planted firmly in a lazy position, kinda like Sonnen was when he copped the knee. I slowly and whilst supporting my body put my knee down on his sternum and the wind was near knocked out of him and my brother is 115 fucking solid kilos and a lifelong athlete with some stand up training.
No wind up from me, no throwing of my weight on him, no intention to knee and strike him, no follow through with bodyweight and I was supporting myself from pushing down on him and it was unbearable. Fucking Anderson threw it all into Sonnen… Surprised Sonnen walked out of that and a testament to his heart trying to get up and fight on.
No fucking way… no sane person can take something like that and make a comeback…

Yeah…taking that knee while sitting on his ass was brutal. Most would have quit right then and there. I give Sonnen props for trying to fight through that.

In MMA, guys like Silva keep their hands low to counter the shot, double and single (See Alistair vs Brock).

Chael doesn’t punch like a girl… he hits at least as hard as a 13 year old boy.

Seriously though, I gotta disagree with you on Chael being a one trick pony. There are way better examples of that in MMA (e.g: Cyril Diabate, Fitch, even Henderson). Hell, I’d say Chael is more versatile than Silva. That aside, Silva is a better fighter.

lmao

Carry on with your fallacy that there’s something wrong with people who disagree with you…eventually you’ll figure out it’s quite the opposite.

People keep talking about how precise, accurate and masterful Silva was but when I watch the video I see him missing by a mile and beating down mindlessly like a caveman. You guys are not looking at it with your eyes. In my opinion you guys are letting your image of Silva corrupt your vision.

Simply, I do not think Silva threw anything that might have hurt Sonnen as much as Sonnen was indicated or anyone else for that matter. I look at it with my eyes and I see a whole lot misses and 2 slight glancing blows. The knee was partially blocked by two arms and a leg. I think I could take it. If you guys look at Guillard ending a previous fight with a knee, you’ll learn what a fight-ending knee looks like.

There’s room for finesse. There’s room for precise punches that don’t look like much but do a lot of damage. That’s what Machida is all about. This wasn’t it.

I watched the fight with a group of pretty analytical people, including one guy who fought MMA for years. We all saw the same thing.

@ moron: Please just go

@ rest: What a performance, what a fight! Instant classic.
That’s the thing I was talking about.

Chael is so hellbent on a takedown, between the clinch/takedown there is a moment of pure no-rythm.
Chael got the first round in dominant fashion, just like in the first fight. It was a wild shot, coming right out of the gate. A huge confidence booster for the wrestler.

The ability to slow things down, to create a window of opportunity with precise striking against someone who’s main ability is to leave you no space for that is really what makes Anderson a great champion.

After the hard counter right, the one Silva threw while walking backwards, Chael was probably a little bit stunned and Anderson seized the initiative till then end.

That knee was brutal deluxe.
p.s. Was THAT what ‘O-sensei’ Seagal promised by saying “barely legal”?

Some dude I know said Cody Mckenzie is a can, god do people realise how fucking badass fighters are who compete in tiny little events and how they would tear the average hard man apart in seconds with ease, imagine how superhuman someone has to be to even fight in the UFC, let alone on the main fucking card, some people need to imagine a guy who can kick their ass is sat next to them at all times, its like the only way some people can be respectful and not talk shit is if they are avoiding physical harm :frowning:

Also why is it that the fucking American crowd boos if fighters are not swinging wildly at one another, really pissed me off when they were booing Easton and Menjivar!
