UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II

A lean 230 lbs after training camp?

I’d love me some hypogonadism.

Just watched the weigh ins. Silva looked so angry, which is great for Sonnen. At the level these guys fight at they can’t fight angry, if you do you try to knock the other guy out with every punch, which makes your punches slow and gasses you out. Sonnen may have pissed Silva off enough to throw him off his game. Makes me think of Ali/Frasier.

Hmm…that’s too broad a paintbrush, imo. Ever heard the phrase “controlled-aggression?” Well…I think Silva is one of those guys who’s experience along with type of fighter he already is fits that term. Some guys get more focused. Some guys blow their wad and disregard technique.

I just don’t see Silva getting stiff and “pushing” punches because he’s pissed. If anything he might come out void of his normal “come at me…I will dance for a bit” and become too aggressive. It’s highly possible that could play into Chael’s takedown game. So yeah…his technique won’t suffer, imo…but his strategy MIGHT suffer. But all that matters is…that…

WE WILL FIND OUT SOON ENOUGH!! Can’t wait…

Besides those two, there are some other nice matches

Griffin vs Ortiz, I say Griffin takes it because ring age was better to him than to a very physical Ortiz

Cote should be able to finish Le via gnp/submission, no surprise there

Dong Hyun Kim vs Demian Maia; maybe Kim, as he can handle Maia on the feet and defend the few takedowns Maia attempts well enough; a not too exciting decision

Maia will handle Kim and Cote will finally get KO’d.

I will be rooting for Silva. I just love watching him fight.

I am not sure if I can agree that Chael Sonnen has ground and pound as much as he has ground and (score)points.

I see a lot of his coach Lindland in his style. He grinds, but the strikes he throws don’t do a hell of a lot of damage. The fact he has been subbed by a few guys he was “pounding on” for 3 rounds or more seems to support the idea that he is not hurting the other guy nearly as much as say Coleman, Ortiz, or Hughes(three wrestlers who I think really were trying to pound their opponent out).

Truth
We saw what aggression and anger made him do towards Vitor.
This will be just as brutal.

My sphincter was twitching as they were entering the octaon, I was for some reason nervous as fuck haha.

Just saw the fight Silva Sonnen II. This fight seemed dodgy. I looked at it in super slow motion. Silva didn’t land anything flush. In fact I only saw 2 punches that partially hit. Some were waaaay off even though Sonnen reacted to them. Sonnen was acting as if he was getting hurt badly yet NOTHING WAS HITTING. Then the referee calls the fight for Silva? I call shenanigans!
…and what was up with Silva rubbing Vaseline all over his shoulders and chest?

They played it in slow motion at my bar. Everyone in my group was outraged.
EDIT: btw, one person in my group is an ex-MMA fighter

The broadcast did. He just spun and lost his balance yet he acted as if it was a big deal - i.e. didn’t get up right away.

He fucked up with that sloppy crap.

Sure, that spin was a “fuck up”, but a) he didn’t bounce back up - acted like he got hit or something, b) he acted waaay too hurt by the subsequent knee that didn’t hit anything, c) he curled up TWICE after NOTHING HIT HIM.

That knee was close to being illegal…but Sonnen lost fair and square. IDK about that Knee I have to look at it again.

In earnest:
I agree with Big_Boss.

Half(but kinda wish I was all the way) kidding:
Aikido/Aikijutsu/internal martial arts do have certain “techniques”/“throws” where the nage/thrower is supposed to lead/control their opponent without touching them. It is supposed to be very, VERY fucking confusing to fall for it. Silva has trained with Seagal, who I think believes in that stuff.

Robert A

Must of been the ninja black egg. LOL…come on dude…that knee did some damage. You don’t shake off a knee to the sternum in a matter of seconds…TRUST ME…lol. He was covering up because of the knee.

Hmm…well the backfist might have been a little sloppy…but the setup wasn’t that bad. Silva just has crazy awareness. Watch the slip off the jab. He made Sonnen look almost as bad as Forrest.
