UFC 143 - Diaz v Condit

as much as i dislike him i didnt want to see diaz beaten in this manner. i would now have preffurerdthat he won so he could get a through trouncing from gsp and look like even more of a goon .

any one else really frustrated by the two point deduction for the nut kick? i think that was uncalled for. ive seen more questionable kicks (gsp hughes) not get deductions at all. i think one point would have been questionably sever though a sufficient punishment and on the replay it did not look intentional. it looked to me like a taller guy kicking a shorted guy. joe rogan also pissed me off talking about the lingering effects of a nut kick and how it was what caused guy to gas i say poppycock! ive been nutted countless times (i never liked to wear a cup in training) and you recover and your fine also having been a goalie ive voided the contents of my stomach many a time after a making a save with my scrotum (forgot to put my cup on a one time two never made that mistake again) and the idea of a nut kick effecting your performance 10 minutes after the fact is preposterous.

im also getting tired of joe and mike making excuses for guys slowing down or gassing or not performing you are a professional fighter! your job is to be able to fight for no less than 15 minutes its time to start shit or get off the pot. i think ufc needs to start thinning the heard and having circumstantial pay this is supposed to be the pinnacle

I was very pleased when Condit won. I really didn’t expect him to fare that well and he stayed on his feet for five rounds. Diaz is just a stalker, damn. But Condit landed pretty good shots against him, caught him with great legs and face kicks. Diaz seemed not to have a clue on how to deal with him most time, lol. I’m fucking glad he lost.

The fight kept me on the edge of my seat, I must say. The last seconds of the fifth round, I was just shouting, ‘‘get out of here, Carlos, GET THE FUCK OUT!!’’ Haha!

Humble, well done with your predictions, especially regarding the footwork.

I gotta say GSP v Nick Diaz would have been more interesting. I’d expected Condit to lose so I could see St Pierre beating the shit out of Nick.

I honestly was very surprised that condit got the victory. I had Diaz with the 1st, 2nd and 5th rounds. I thought nick landed the harder shots. While condit did land some decent leg kicks, i just don’t see them as effective. And i thought that condit did move a tad much. I had it pretty much even till the 5th round. it was a fairly close round, till nick got the takedown and got back control trying to get a submission. thats some big points there, with a dominant position.

once againn the ufc judges ruined another decision

When did the UFC hire it’s own judges?? I must have missed that. Diaz fucked himself…because he couldn’t fuck with Carlos. End of story.

Yeah…people forget that “small” aspect of boxing. Diaz’ biggest understanding from boxing is range and hand-fighting in space…not footwork…obviously.
I disagree. Usually he cuts off all his opponents well. Although he didn’t win, COndit applied exactly what I was talking about. The whole fight he circled off to Nicks right, completely neutralized his power and Nick was not able to cut him off because Condit was one step ahead. To add to that, he would kick from the outside off balancing Nick the whole fight then setting him up for a few more of condit’s inside kicks/punches.

Not a spectacular fight but condit did what you do against someone who constantly cuts you off.
I agree, he didn’t look like he was ‘fighting’ but, you can win a fight on counters as well.

Footwork for the win!
You disagree…yet then agree?..I’m confused. lol. Diaz usually corners fighters because they’re already exhausted from trying to go toe-to-toe with Nick. They then sadly get beat up on the cage and fight on their heels. Nothing exceptional about that…his opponents give it to him. Then Condit does what you already stated…he won with footwork and counters. He was a step ahead…had way better grasp of footwork than Nick.

I should have turned this off after watching the Werdum heavy bag session. Not even going to comment on Diaz - Condit, other than to say that based on that fight I wouldn’t have given either one of them a title shot against a healthy GSP.

Koscheck - Pierce: Koscheck looked extremely beatable. Jake Ellenberger would have torn him in half, and may get a shot if they don’t feed Kosch to Condit for the Tour-de-whogivesafuck.

For my money, I was most impressed by the featherweight Poirier. Excellent topside triangle, and after catching a beating early.

Everything else about this card has already been said.

Damn…debate of Condit-Diaz is endless…back to the good shit of the night…that I know everyone will appreciate.

Slow down a second. I disagreed with your comments about his foot work.

It’s not fanciful, it’s not poetic, it’s not Yuriokas Gamboa but his feet are always well placed. He isn’t dancing around like sweatpea but you can’t corner your opponents the way he does just by pressing them. Sorry, if you think that then you’re gravely mistaken.

The ironic thing is Condit out ‘footworked’ him, albeit in a somewhat timid and cowardly fashion as others mentioned.

His opponents don’t give it to him, they mostly suck at footwork.

Anything short of getting completely KTFO, Diaz would bitch about he thought he didn’t really lose.

Anything short of getting completely dominated, Diaz nuthuggers would bitch about he really shouldn’t have lost, or the other guy is a pussy etc.

Hell even if he did get completely dominated, someone would make an excuse for him. If this had been GSP vs Diaz, it would’ve been GSP dominating the fight with takedowns all night, yet it would still be the same thing: Diaz bitching about how he’s not hurt and that GSP is a pussy for not standing in front of him, and Diaz nuthuggers bitching about how GSP is a pussy for not letting Diaz do his thing???

Ridiculous.

This is an accurate assessment.

Condit moved well enough. He caused damage to Diaz. Diaz did not adapt. Diaz did not cut off the cage. Diaz ONLY MOVED FORWARD. No lateral movement. No checks. No defensive movements whatsoever. He got exploited. He lost. Deal with it.

Boss…I absolutely LOVED that kick!!!

The common denominator in our posts…so yeah…we agree on the most important fact. However…I think you could argue that some of Nick’s past opponents probably have better footwork than him.

They either have ill-advised gameplans going in(getting caught up mindgames…standing toe-to-toe with Nick…etc)…and the punches in bunches wears them down to the point that footwork goes down the drain.

This.

Nick has the idea in his head that MMA is “fighting” and not a sport. And he has a very narrow definition of “fighting”, that involves two people standing in the pocket, throwing until someone drops.

I felt the same. The disclosure here is I was watching in a sports bar and I have a tendency to give the rounds to the guy moving forward if the damage/blows landed seem at all similar. I thought Diaz had a close round in the first, a solid second, clearly lost 3 and 4, and I thought the takedown and “back control” would have got the wink in UFC scoring.

I am also going to not Fightmetric does not show the 1st being as close as I/we thought.

FightMetric: Condit vs. Diaz Official UFC Statistics
If you can’t get to the link it has Diaz only out-striking in the 2nd. According to their “effectiveness” score Diaz got 2 and 5.

I disagree about Condit’s leg kicks. I noticed Diaz shortening his steps, switching leads (though he does that enough that it isn’t “proof” that his leg was damaged", and turning his front leg away from a few kicks. Diaz sucked the shots up like a champ, but I think they did a lot in the fight.

For the record:

Condit fought brilliantly. He had a good gameplan, and he stuck to it. My only criticism would be that he was taken down in the 5th.

DarkNinjaa,

Are you competing in figure or doing modeling? That looks like a “photo shoot” type avatar (lights/pose/suit/different hair). You look amazing, not that you don’t look amazing normally.

I have a hard time seeing Diaz as a top-level MMA fighter at this point.

His victory over Penn is his real only top-10, and BJ is really a 155er.

What’s really got me to this point is how limited Nick’s game seems to have become.

He essentially does two things:

#1 March forward, attempt to back opponent into cage, stand in pocket, and unload devastating volume punches.

#2 If #1 fails taunt opponent and try to get them off their game plan and lure them into standing in front of Diaz/in the pocket. If successful return to #1

He seems not only to have no answer to anyone who doesn’t want to play this game (strikers being elusive, or wrestlers who take him down and pound him), he doesn’t seem INTERESTED in developing in answer.

He gets this look on his face like “WTF are you doing? Come back here and stand in front of me so I can hit you!”

I can’t see a fighter with that kind of attitude ever becoming one of the elite.

Most fighters are proud of their ability to evolve and diversify their games. Nick reminds me more and more of those first gen MMA guys who could do one thing really well, and had no respect for anything else.
