Easy killer. We do pretty well at not disrespecting different martial arts on this forum, and I’d like to keep it like that. Karate has a place, maybe not in MMA per se, but it is most certainly not only for “fags.”
Sorry, overzealous comment. But I was referring to the guys like my brother who champion Machida and tell themselves their Karate will take them to the top as well, despite the fact they train nothing like Machida, nor have the respective abilities that Machida posseses. Guaranteed his interest in the UFC will switch off now that Machida has lost the title.
Whats up with all that hate? what is your style? maybe boxing by your avatar?

Man, you should post some of your fights because you talk shit about karate and mma and you love to praise those lame boxers who weight like 140lbs and think they can beat any style out there. I’m not impressed by 45 years old boxers dominating on boxing or even trying to move to MMA to get the crap beat out of them for a purse.

Do you really think James Toney or Mayorga will do something SHOCKING to MMA?? Maybe we should call Eastman for the ULTIMATE BOXING MATCH against Toney, even retired Ricardo Arona beated him.
The fact that they can get an MMA fight in the first place… and in the UFC makes MMA look bad. That 140lb guy also makes 30+ million on a fight… I think hes happy being a boxer. I love boxing and I enjoy MMA but these arguments are retarded.

Of course people are gonna talk shit about karate… every mcdojo wannabe thinks they’re hot shit. And If Toney beats Randy I will die laughing… not because I’m happy but it would just be priceless.

Randy is overrated i really hope he gets KTFO by Toney

Who cares? Anyone weighting around at least 190lbs would kill a 140lbs boxer

Please, don’t open that can of worms…I beg you.

come one man! we gotta have some FIRE on this thread!!!

and the 190lbs doesn’t even need to do any kind of training, he just needs to know how to grab, take the boxer down and mount and it’s over. I mean, fighting with POM-POM on their hands are really GAY don’t you think?

That’s why McDojos owners are very wealthy guys.

Boxing only works on a boxing ring with those pussy rules. Put them on a bar and any Drunk Minnesota Viking fan will KTFO of any of them.(Mayweather and Pacman included)

I understood the context in your initial colorful comment…lol. We had one of those guys in our gym…and he was dead set on imitating Machida with his one year of “extensive” Shotokan at a Muay Thai school. You can imagine how that worked out for him.

Definitely nothing against Karate guys/gals…but a good portion seem to forget how long Machida has trained Shotokan and the level of his abilities. More so the people that seriously think that Karate will make them successful MMA fighters by default.

Sidenote: Machida’s style of karate is not what most people think it is. Look at his roots…he’s not a product of a McDojo.
People forget to that he has a boxing coach, Muay Thai coach, and is BJJ black belt. His base is defenitely Shotakan but he is MMA trained. Thats the biggest problem I see when people say Karate works in MMA. Maybe it does as a base but no one can train only Karate and win and thats what people are missing.

haha kaisermetal your just straight being a shit disturber here and seems like you don’t mean ANYTHING that your saying lol you just want everyone to get fired up about it and argue back…I mean even me commenting on this is like a joke…I can TASTE your sarcasm lol

Maybe we should tell that to Demian Maia or Melvin Manhoef

nah just joking with you, actually my trainer is training Demian Maia standup game since the Nate Marquardt loss
drewh wrote:

So that’s why!! we should hurry up and tell that to Manhoef so he can stop speaking Dutch and Maia Portuguese

I just assume hes dumb

I would assume he is a devastating striker and Maia a submission beast, but not dumb, they are probably richer than most of us here. Also they don’t waste their time getting pissed by random non-logical flames on a internet forum

Lol the dumb was in reference to you… That why no one calls you out on your “sarcasm” it kinda fits… and I can easily believe that you’re being completely serious
Amiright wrote:

Yeaah, I was going to type out a long winded reply to him further explaining what I actually meant by my karate comment (For future readers however, I wasn’t making a blanket statement about karate as a style, I used to do Karate, but rather, a group of people and a mindset), but I realized this and saved myself the effort.

I completely understand.

The problem is that these people are forgetting what Karate is- primarily a self defense system, and secondly a way of living and thinking. Using karate in MMA is like using a hammer to take off a screw- it might work in a couple instances, but there’s better tools available.

Karate should never be about getting “to the top”… I urge your brother to read the works of Funakoshi and others who are the pillars of the art.
