Type of Squat and Meniscus Problem

Ok, so I compressed my right meniscus and I’m now rehabing but I’m curious to know which type of squat is less stressfull for someone with menisc issue. thx

I second that question, for the same meniscus reasons.

I’ll third that. Info on deep squats vs. any other type of squat where you don’t go all the way down would be helpful. Any great resources for good squat form?

I’m not really sure what the answer is to your question, but here are some good resources about the squat:

If you scroll down on this site:

you’ll see someone who posted two studies that may actually be on one of the other pages.

Thx so far. Anybody esle ?

ive torn mine 5-6 times now(still need to fix it) and going real deep kills my knee.I still go heavy, but i just go parrallel now instead of deeper.Leg press hurts more IMO.

I don’t think squatting is terribly hard on the meniscus unless you are putting as much force through the joint as you possibly can, i.e. doing super explosive reps with very heavy weights. But, in any case, the load on the knee is proportional to the degree of knee flexion, so the more you descend with any style of squat, the more you’ll be stressing the joint (and hence the meniscus). Which meniscus (medial/lateral) is hurt?

Medial meniscus, on right knee, is compressed, the patella doesn’t move all that well. Thanks for the reply. Do you think box squat (12 inches) would be better than free squat at the same depth ?

The box squat produces less knee flexion relative to hip flexion, so based on that I would infer that box squats should be less hard on the knee than free squats. I stress that I’m just inferring though, and neither talking from experience nor a particularly impressive knowledge of squat variations.
