Tuna Fish Recipies

Hey everyone, I was wondering if you could share with me your quick, healthy Tuna Fish recipies. Heres the catch, I HATE canned tuna, it’s just when you open the can it smells like cat food. Nasty. But I do want to try to learn to like it as it is such a good source of Protein. I really like tuna ie Sushi, Ahi Tuna, just not canned tuna… I did buy one of the Starkist sealed tuna packs, which I havent opened yet, And I hope that will be better. Again any recepies would be helpful & appreceiated.

Not the answer you’re looking for, I’m sure, but after a while of forcing canned tuna down you don’t really taste it anymore. I just finished a can with some vegetables and was reflecting on the fact that tuna tastes like cardboard to me nowadays… I sometimes mix it with salsa, or mustard, or even barbecue sauce. It probably tastes the best with mayonnaise and celery, of course.

Try the tuna in a vaccuum bag, it’s more expensive, but worth EVERY penny.

Have you tried TC’s Chanko diet? It’s in an issue from way back when, but it is very cheap, convienient, healthy and yes, does taste good too.

HEy,
yeah when u say tuna smells nasty and is gross
i agree 100%…

However after forcing it down, can after can, i am now used to the taste.
Try putting it in sandwitches, or on pasta…but tuna is tuna…its not gonna get to much better

Ya the starkist in a bag is the best. I usually make sandwiches. Try it with Helmans mayonnaise, celery, letus, and bread. I love that shit. The right amount of helmans will either make it good or suck. also put vegetables in it that u like.

I donno about you guys, but I don’t smell it when I open up the can. Only after I go a few days w/ out eating it and start going into my tuna withdrawals do I smell it, only for a second though. Tuna is good.

I eat the tuna right out of the can. However, I get the gag reflex if it’s not albacore. Try the albacore brand much better quality. And if you happen to live in New York near a Wegmans, their brand albacore is better than any of the Starkist, Bumblebee, etc.

When I competed a couple of years ago, I ate Tuna out of the ying-yang. I had to invent something else to take the taste and the smell away. I tried a few things and the following are 2 of my favorites. I mix a couple of cans of drained Tuna with pinapple and its juice. The pinapple takes the smell away and acts a digestive enzyme as well. Also, I have tried Tuna and mixed-berry yogurt. Same thing with the smell. The yogurt makes it go away. Good carbs, great protein source. Make a small amount at first, so if you don’t like it you won’t waste all that food.

Thank you for all the suggestions!!! Yes from what I have been told by my friends, the Albacore is the best Read: less stinky. Also the packets of tuna while more expensive seem to be more palatible as well.

I actually like canned tuna … prefer sushi but can’t do that all the time.
I always get the solid white albacore in water.
Mix it up with no-fat mayo and optionally add relish. Spread on a couple pieces of grainy bread. When I don’t want the bread I just stir it up with some relish and lemon juice.

I eat albacore (no nasty chunk light) right out of the can. It goes great with granny smith apples. The apples provide a tart, sweet taste that nullifies the tuna taste.

Well it might sound stupid but I put cheese whiz on my bread before spreding the tuna it tasts a lot better than it sounds

I have tried it all… believe me, there is nothing on earth that could possibly make tuna taste good. I have given up and reverted to eating it from the can, i figure why try to jazz it up, yes, i dislike the taste but i just wash it down with water or milk (it is impossible to swallow without liquid, gag!)…just get it down and get it over with.

I agree wiht " Dawg on the porch" you just gotta choke it bake…

I mix it up with lots of relish, fat free miracle whip, and a bit of cottage cheese, and a couple of crushed rye crackers and then either eat it like that or dump it into a huge mixed greens salad. I tried making tuna patties ala salmon patties but they didn’t taste anywhere near as good as salmon.

Drain your water packed tuna. I like the solid pack albacore, it’s less cat food like and you get more food and less water. Put drained tuna in a bowl, add flax oil (a couple of tablespoons), minced onions, and dijon mustard to taste. Eat it like that or in a sandwich, or whatever. With the flax oil I’d lean towards working it into a P&F meal.

My favorite is a can of albacore with one chopped hard-boiled egg, mayo and/or dijon mustard to taste and season with onion powder, salt and pepper or anything else you might like.

Here’s what I just started doing, and love it. Make up a couple cups of brown rice, then add 4 cans of tuna, and 1 can of half-fat cream of mushroom soup. That’s it, and in my humble opinion it is pretty damn good. Off the top of my head, each of the 4 servings has about 350cals, 30g protein, and about 4g of fat, and whatever carbs. If I am eating a protein+fat meal only, I melt my tuna with mozza cheese in a little bowl and add some oregano and other spices, it’s pretty decent, definitely downable. Well hope you like these, cheers!

I find that the more you put in it tthe better. I put mayo, dijon mustard, lemon juice, red onion, celery, capers, black pepper, and a little cajun spice.
