well, the finale was okay…
the first fight, between Leonard Garcia and Nam Phan had the worst fuckign judges ever. i don’t think anyone there thought it was close, and even Garcia didn’t understand it. ironic, since we’ve been discussing judging snafu’s lately…
anyway, the rest of the fights were decent. Michael Johnson looked good vs Brookins…i think he’s substantially more well-rounded right now, although Brookins’ grappling is sooo dominant. he does need to spend some time working on his boxing, though…
i think the best part was after Rogan’s rant and there was like 2 minutes of dead air, when Goldberg clearly didn’t know what to say…
Yeah, that Garcia/Phan decision was pretty bad.
This marks the second show in a row where even the fighter who was awarded the decision didn’t think that they won. It’s time for the state athletic commissions to get some competent judges, implement some of the improved viewing angle suggestions that kmcnyc or others have suggested, or for the UFC to change their rules to make things more concrete and less subjective (not that this would likely have much bearing, other than to illustrate how incompetent/ignorant about the sport some of the judges are).
for what it’s worth, i read on another site where Nam Phan got paid a win bonus as well…

Nah in an interview after Leonard said he thought he did enough to win. This is also his fifth fight he’s unfairly won by split decision. Somehow the loser judges think swinging at air means you are the aggressor and should win. According to compustrike and fightmetric Phan outstruck Garcia in every round. But oh well Keith Kizer sees no problem so it’s A ok.

I’m glad for him. Still pisses me off about the judging though.
