How thick is your waist?
I smile.

I wear a 34" pants size and most of them are somewhat loose on me.
This pic reminds me of proteinpowda.

Striking resemblance

Definitely looking thick. As you’re regaining muscle for the most part, I wouldn’t overly concern myself with aesthetics. I have a naturally wide waist, and simply adding more meat up top, combined with tightening up (which I have no doubt is down the road for you), can make a world of difference.

Agreed. To my eye, losing the bit of fat in 1-2 inch band around the navel (when you get to it, and no doubt it will be among the last to go, perhaps along with legs) will really pull things in.

No doubt you’ve got some serious beef on you, Brick. Good job – looking forward to updates!

Was just thinking about this thread yesterday. It’s time for an update Brick.

Thanks people. I haven’t been taking as many pictures the past two weeks. Everything is going good. I might post more when I get up tomorrow.

Here’s a new pic. Again, still a bit smooth (and shaven in this pic, lol), but I feel good at the caloric amount I am at to make gains.

Don’t shave. I prefer the bear-look. Btw, are you open for some one-to-one Skype video sessions?

Thanks!

Great work Brick. Are you incorporating sprints on 5/3/1 or just running the lifting portion?

Lifting with sporadic conditioning (which I have to start doing more of). I was doing OK with sprinting outdoors until the Northeast got horrendous, frigid temperatures with tons of snow. I CAN’T use cardio machines for more than 10 minutes! Obviously if I will prep for a show I might have to, but I can’t tolerate much indoor cardio unless it’s tire flipping or battle ropes or whatever. I think one of the most boring activities I’ve done is use a treadmill. I don’t use it as a general warmup either; I jump rope and do mobility drills to get warmed up.

Brick I hear ya on the treadmill stuff.I love pulling my sled but all this snow has put an end to that for the moment.I took a tip from CT where he has been doing 5 min of incline treadmill time then jumping off and doing 20 K-bell swings.I’ve been doing that 6 times(30)min.This has been pretty tolerable as for indoor cardio.Just a thought.

Do you have any ideas for tire flipping and battle rope workouts?

What about battle rope to finish off an upper body workout? What sets and timing? Anybody?

Not for tire flips,I want to get one for this summer.I have battle ropes and use them just like my heavy bag strikes.30 sec on 30 sec off for as many rounds as possible is what I use most of the time.

Your leg development makes me think that either I do too much cardio.

Also wanted to say I’m in a similar boat: newly-minted lawyer trying to keep serious and dialed-in alongside busy work life.

Similar size (5’10", 200-205lbs), and lifts (squat 440x5, bench 255x13). But my I neglected my legs over the summer while studying for the bar (my own fault) and focused on upper body (which was needed), so now I’m trying to get my legs to play catch-up.

Great thread.

I take leg training seriously, but I think I am also lucky in the leg department. I can’t even remember the last time I did a leg extension. It’s been nothing but squats, lunges, and hack squat or leg press (I’ve grown to dislike leg press).

I’m sure with a 440 x 5 squat at 5’10" and 205# you have some thick legs but perhaps shape or aesthetics is what you’re referring to. I am quad dominant with a slightly anterior pelvic tilt, which is like a recipe for gaining quad size doing almost nothing. I had to try very hard to get some hamstring size. Someone like you might need more leg extensions, front squats, and hack squats, I believe.

Are you on a strength oriented or BB focused routine? A BB oriented routine leaves more room for bringing up size in some areas, which is what I will be switching to in a few months.

It is very tough dealing with adult life and this heavily involved hobby. Congratulations with your new profession. Ever read stuff by the go-to meat head lawyer Rick Collins?

I went into the summer thinking I would focus on upper body and that squatting and doing some SLDLs would be enough to keep leg size. I was incorrect–I was doing a lot of running at the time, and honestly my legs shrank quite a bit despite keeping most of their strength. I guess it’s one of those experience lessons for me: my legs really need more than squatting and get very small when doing cardio. Lately I’ve limited my cardio to a few bike sprints and 30 minutes of treadmill walking to end my workouts, but I think I need to cut it back even farther.

Recent PR’s:
Squat: 365 x 5 (real squats below parallel)
Deadlifts: 375 x 8
Bench press: 245 x 8

I want low 300s bench, mid 400s deadlift, low 400s squat. I think these are good goals for a natty with average genetics like myself and for someone who has lost some time for whatever reason, as I have.

Looking sexy Brix, but you are weak. Adjust your strength goals to something more appropriate given your size such as 465/365/575.
Honestly would’ve guessed his numbers were a li’l higher, but I wouldn’t call him “weak”. People train for different things, and he’s obviously strong enough to look jacked, so something’s obviously working.

He is weak as a kitten. Typical sign of a roid-monkey.

What a dumb, worthless piece of shit you are.
