If you would have rather done that than gained say 65 pounds of muscle, but have to go to 15% bodyfat then fine.

Fair comment. I just prefer to stay quite lean while putting muscle on

At least you do recognize the situation for what it is. If you’re happy with how you’re progressing then who am I to allege that you’re not.

Ok, i started trainin at 140 pounds with no abs. I’ve had abs for about the past 3 years and im now 183. So im 43 pounds heavier than when i first started training AND significantly leaner.

So i’ve put on approximately 50 pounds of muscle, while staying 9-12% bodyfat the past 3 years. During my first 3 years of training i had no abs and paid no attention to what i ate. The last 3 years, with good diet i’ve made good strength and size gains withoutr getting fat. So i know it can be done

Ok, now I realize that Tirib’s numbers are completely hypothetical, but let’s still think about that.

Elliot went from 143 to 180 gaining 50lbs of LBM, obviously losing a quite a few pounds of fat in the process and stayed between 9-12% BF (not bad, and I don’t want to take anything away from your progress).

If Tirib’s numbers are fair, then you could have added another 15lbs more LBM and about 3% more body fat, or about 6lbs of fat. If that were the case you would be about 201 with 15% BF. Diet down for 3 or 4 weeks and your back to 12%BF at 195. I know which road I would have chosen.

To each their own, I guess that’s why this thread is still going.

Yes, they were hypothetical, but I thought pretty realistic and that’s exactly where I was going. However it’s his body and he’s the only one that has to be pleased with it. He does recognize that he could,ve gained more which is more than most of these guys will do.

Tirib, I absolutely agree, and IF I thought those numbers were unrealistic, I wouldn’t have even bothered with my post.

My point is…If one’s ultimate goal were to be 180 and lean, then great, you’ve reached it, now you can just maintain it.

However, if your goal is to be 200 or 220 or whatever (and lean), then there are probably quicker ways to get there than by hovering around single digit BF.

The last few posts all bring up very valid points. I’ve gotta stress that my progress has not been the same through all 6 years i’ve been training. Since i educated myself on diet i’ve made much faster gains ie…the past 3ish years
