The best thing trump can do now to honor McCann is to say nothing. The man is totally void of compassion.
If Trump doesn’t only read from a prepared script, he will say something insulting about him.
Agree.
Anything Trump would say now would ring more shallow than we already know the man to be.
(If I’m not mistaken; Trump was already uninvited to attend the funeral?)
Even if he was invited, he should know enough to just send flowers and not attend. Bigliest flowers.
It will be another uncomfortable moment (for me at least) to see Sarah Huckabee Sanders shift and squirm as she reads some prepared statement about Trump’s feelings about Senator McCain. (Which he has clearly expressed in the past).
Rest assured that the Press Corps IS going to ask.
Per local media reports, Ukrainian troops are flying American flags on the frontline positions and chanting “McCain, McCain” towards the Russians who in turn are chanting “Donald Trump” back.
We can only hope that this is Fake News…
Oh no, McCain was hugely popular throughout Eastern Europe. He impressed everyone with his intellect, bearing and complete disregard for personal safety. He was considered the embodiment of what’s best in US politics.
Russia on the other hand…
Russia liked McCain okay when he was running for president. Seems rather similar to the Trump tower meeting.
Nah, that’s just her normal resting bitchy face.
That is beyond resting bitch face. Her face makes me angry.
Short answer, no. McCain was vilified for almost almost two decades by Russian media and the political elite as they were always pitted against each other.
But in the articles you’ve quoted there is a fascinating story and probably McCain’s greatest counter-stroke in Europe - tiny Montenegro.
When the articles you quoted were written in 2008 it was taken for granted that Montenegro has basically become a Russian vassal state as Putin bankrolled its independence from Serbia to the tune of one billion dollars through Deripaska and some shady characters, including one Paul J. Manafort.
It was believed that the Russian Navy through fjord harbor of Boka in Montenegro will get a warm water port on the Mediterranean, something they’ve been coveting for over 200 years.
Instead, through a master stroke orchestrated by McCain the Montenegrans played a double game and switched sides, charting a pro-Western course and joined NATO, thereby sealing off the Mediterranean for Russia.
Putin was angry. Like really angry. Russia invested officially and unofficially massive sums in Montenegro and it’s beaches were a favorite vacation spot for Russian bureaucrats, with thousands owning property there.
Putin tried to stage a coup and kill off the pro-Western leadership of the country and bring it back to the Russian sphere but uncharacteristically failed at literally the last minute. The trickster has been tricked.
From then on Russian media regularly airs hit pieces against Montenegro and Putin allegedly fumes at any mention of the country.
Interestingly, some other individuals have also displayed unusually emotionally charged reactions to Montenegro having joined the Western alliance.
I’m curious (if anyone chooses to respond):
How did FOX…and especially Hannity…“spin” the way Trump has behaved over the past 2 days when it came to Senator McCain? (e.g. lukewarm condolences; not wanting to say anything about him publicly…hell…there was a small Local business flying their Flag at Half-Staff for Senator McCain…)
Yeah…I get it…maybe with him saying anything would have come off as hypocritical…but I would argue that hypocirisy has never stopped Trump before.
So…how did Trump’s New’s Agency spin his behavior?
Didn’t watch the news on it. Maybe his handlers are finally getting ahold of the Twitter account. As you point out it would be best if he said nothing. He may be more focused on the midterms and WV speeches etc…
He sent a respectful message, flew WH flag at 1/2 mast for 48 hours, and 1/2 mast at his golf club.
What does a man have to do?
Not need to have his arm twisted half-off in order to do the right thing?
He should apologize for his comments about POWs during the race.
This is the thing that I find most cowardly and disgusting with Trump supporters. I won’t judge someone who dodges the draft, so be it. But to dodge the draft and then say something about one POW, McCain, that actually insults all POWs and by extension everyone who has ever served, is something that I will judge. I get all the Hillary and elitism talk but isn’t a statement like that by Trump the very definition of elitism? “I’m too precious to serve but those who do better not get captured.” How anyone can spin that or approve of it is beyond me. It really is a sign that his followers are basically cultists.
Obama said certain things that he apologized for, the old “I misspoke” line. But he did apologize and maybe even meant it. Trump’s cultists actually find the fact he won’t apologize endearing.
I don’t watch that buffoon but it is easy to figure out. Just look at the majority of their viewers: they are not very bright. It’s human nature. As people get smarter, they want their leaders to be smarter. As people get dumber, they want their leaders to be dumber. That’s why people like Hannity, Limbaugh, Candace Owens, have jobs.
