Trump: The Second Year

I agree with you that the POW line was repugnant, and doubly so when one knows Trump weaseled out of military service. Absolutely vile and worthy of derision.
And yes he should and should have apologized.

But this space has become a ridiculous echo chamber of Trump hate. Hundreds (thousands?) of posts vilifying his very existence, with only a rare post even mentioning the heinous acts causing the vitriol, much less any on positives he is bringing. Lies, fabrication, walked back mis-statements, projected planned roadblocks up to treason, to positive trade deals, pushing Europe to stand on its own, economic upswings… not even mentioned here. Virtually no conversation.

Not hard to see why Trump thread is down to 10 like minded posters.

Typical disclaimer - not singling out @anon50325502

Should someone who feels the way he does about those who serve in our military even be president in the first place?

What are these positives? Positive trade deals? I see tariffs and handouts to farmers.
Pushing Europe to stand on its own? Because we should just withdraw from NATO (and work with the Russians). People who don’t know history say things about Europe standing on its own.

I, for one, would love some more back and forth around here.

If you see positive Trump things that should be shared, feel free to throw em out there

I wish I could be a Trumpist ast it would be fun to be one of the few contrarians standing firm against the tide!. But, I can’t even make myself play Devil’s advocate for the man.

Not Trump related, but there used to be more thoughtful, informed conservatives who posted in this forum.

Related, the whole Russia collusion thing is getting a different treatment depending on if you’re reading the WSJ or the NYT.

Welcome to MY World, Treco, during the 8 years Obama was President.

Say something good about the man (Trump)…or don’t…it’s your choice.

My issue will always be Trump’s followers (and the Right in general); tolerating things that Trump does or says that would have had President Obama tarred, feathered, and quartered …then hung from the nearest and highest Southern Pine.

An apology or an “I was wrong” from Trump?

Maybe to Putin…but not to anyone else.

If a tape of Obama came out in which he said the things Trump did, he would have dropped out of the race.

Let me suggest this, @Powerpuff

If they were all Trump supporters, I get it…

I left for a while (or at least posted a lot less) when the Obama-bashing went to ridiculous levels.

If we support someone…and/or believe in what they stand for…the bashing gets old…

(Also…people often leave for a number of reasons, unrelated to the discussions going on…)

You know ol’ Mick28 is lingering in the weeds, maybe even reading this very post, just waiting for the right time to come back out of hiding.

I am not sure that Obama as President or Clinton as candidate exhibited any substantial improvement over Trump in their regard for the military, except to refrain from making one statement about a bitter rival. If there is substaniation, l am willing to look. Otherwise, I believe only 3 of the 20ish candidates served.

I don’t understand your Europe history statement. The 200 year old US has some inherent obligation to protect the 2500 year old Europe? From whom or what? And to what extent? Are was that just a statement you are not prepared to defend?

Also why do we owe the world to be its dumping ground for goods, while they have systemically prevent the importation of ours?

I do really think that it is a poor show of character on Trumps part.

IMHO, McCain’s dedication and service to this country was incredible. A few kind words from the potus at the time of his passing should be a foregone conclusion.

Minus that, Trump loses some serious cred as a man and as a leader. Bigly.

Feel free to defend this, conservatives:

Trump’s economic adviser: ‘We’re taking a look’ at whether Google searches should be regulated

The Trump administration is “taking a look” at whether Google and its search engine should be regulated by the government, Larry Kudlow, President Trump’s economic adviser, said Tuesday outside the White House.

“We’ll let you know,” Kudlow said. “We’re taking a look at it.”

One statement that reveals something substantial about him as a person. Obama also, while a senator, voted to increase military benefits, something the GOP (including McCain) was against.

I respect sen. John McCain’s service to our country. He is one of those heroes of which I speak. But I can’t understand why he would line up behind the President in his opposition to this GI bill.

I can’t believe why he believes it is too generous to our veterans. I could not disagree with him and the President more on this issue. There are many issues that lend themselves to partisan posturing but giving our veterans the chance to go to college should not be one of them.

We weren’t protecting Europe. We were protecting ourselves by resisting the Soviets over there, instead of here. Had Churchill’s advice been heeded maybe we never would have a Cold War but we allowed Germany to become weaker, as it was divided in two, and gave away Poland and other Eastern European nations.

Clearly, it wasn’t.

No one is making us buy anything from anywhere.

Trump is a very divisive person, which makes praising the good things he’s done (there have been a few) very difficult. At least for me. Even worse (for me) is that he seems to genuinely enjoy being divisive. I don’t know about you, but I find that very off-putting to put it nicely.

I don’t think it’s that much worse now than it was with Obama or with Bush. GWB got no love in this sub-forum for a long time. I think that’s just the nature of PWI.

He was divisive even before he became president as he was an outspoken birther. It’s funny how some people see a buffoon and others the messiah.

I actually liked McCains plan, and Obamas response falsely reframed the argument by stating that we would not be giving service members the opportunity to attend college. The GI bill and benefits existed at that time. Webb and McCain’s proposals would just enhance it.

From what I remember, McCain would require more time in service.

From what I remember, McCain couldn’t be bothered to even show up for work that day.

I distinctly remember a classmate, that had done some kind of pre enlistment for the national guard that year, my senior year that called McCain two-face all year during the election.

Those two names never entered my mind when I made that comment, @ActivitiesGuy.

Are you under the impression that I would admire Raj and Zeb as conservative intellectual minds?
