So if Trump said we don’t want people from a shithole state like Louisiana and Alabama and Mississippi said “are we a shithole state” you would say well you must think you are one if you’re asking! That’s what you’re going with? That’s really the “question” you have?
Actually he’d be doing ok. The territory of Czechia was Europe’s second largest industrial powerhouse before WW1 and after the apocalypse of communism it is regaining it’s previous position - unemployment is down to a few percent of funcionally unemployed and there’s massive growth.
Botswana has famously one of the best economies in Africa, with GDP per capite the same as Mexico. Their problem is that they “all have AIDS” - roughly a third of the population.
The “quality of immigrants” is correlated with the “shitholeness” of a specific country, something that Trump’s brain cannot comprehend.
A shithole country - the smartest and the best want to emigrate. A non-shithole one, those on the fringes of society.
So if Trump’s racist blanket policy would be implemented and Norwegians were allowed by the truckloads, you wouldn’t get Olafs and Lisas but Abdullahs with criminal records back in Norway.
The mentality was the point though. It seems like a lot of immigrants here have this mindset of “now that I’m here don’t let anyone else in. Full stop we got enough. I was the last one you needed!”
Side note: Man you are a wealth of knowledge historically and currently. Learn something every time you post
Every time I read a post of his with history I come away with at least one new connection that I hadn’t had previously. It’s fantastic
What about grown men that run out of a meeting and tell how one participant used a cuss word.
Mommy, Mommy - Bobby said the ‘s’ word,
No. Grown men saying the President said something racist. Again. Either you’re ok with it or you aren’t.
Shithole isn’t the big part of the story. And this wouldn’t be nearly as big a deal if Trump didn’t have
a history of this type of stuff. This isn’t like one slip up type thing. It’s a pattern and a consistent one.
How many times do Republicans have to distance themselves from what he has said in regards to race? We aren’t talking about one specific incident. President Trump has a history of this. What would it take for trump supporters to say “seems a bit racist on this one?”
If you think people leaving the room and tattling on him is what we should be talking about I have no idea what to say about it that would change someone’s mind.
You think the issue here is the profanity per se? Relately, you think some sort of man-law regarding locker-room talk staying in the locker room has a bearing on this?
Nothing, H…and I firmly believe…(based on the dribble that comes from “FOX” and on supporters who surround me on a daily basis)…Trump could be caught on tape killing puppies and it would only strengthen his support among his followers.
What kills me is the hypocrisy of it all, and how among conservatives; President Obama was judged exponentially much more harshly on the things he said or did than Trump is.
I guess its all part of Zeb’s “game”…
Because those people don’t even believe racism exists, from whites. They also believe that Obama was the most racially divisive president ever and he made race relations worse.
What mentality SHOULD they have? I don’t think @pat believes there should be no more immigrants whatsoever. Would the proper mentality be, “You let me in, so now everybody gets in!”?
They should worry about their own lives more.
But if they think anything it should be, “you let my ancestors in and they were from a shithole country and they were thought of as inferior people, criminals and scum so maybe I shouldn’t be so judgmental because that makes me no better than those who called my people monkeys.” And you could you use Ireland as a perfect example of this. It was a shithole country and the people were seen as bottom of the barrel humans. Also, like Haiti, its issues were not solely due to the Irish.
I’d settle for anything that doesn’t remind me of Raj so much.
“I’m an immigrant from a shithole country so I probably shouldn’t judge people trying to emigrate from a shithole country” would be cool with me I guess.
Haven’t said the last part whatsoever nor have I said that Pat doesn’t think what you said. Maybe he does. I said it seems like many recent immigrants have that mentality. Not that they all do not that the correct mentality is to let everyone in.
This is pretty much spot on. It’s strange to me for Some who came from that situation like Pat to be like yeah what’s wrong with saying we don’t want people from those places?
Why should hypocrisy be surprising in cases like this? People would prefer to identify with the “winning” tribe than with the losers.
Not only that, but it’s a pretty standard defensive mechanism used for self-justification by first generation immigrants, later becoming part of family lore for second and third generations, with special emphasis on the alleged “shithole” characteristics of their respective old countries.
You don’t her grandma born in the old homeland saying “Oh, it was a wonderful country, that’s why immigrated into the US”
Also, I have to include this - who would have thought Trump would be having such an impact on linguistics:
It’s a no win situation for them, and will continue to get worse as Trump stays president. It doesn’t matter what they do, they’ll be skewered. If they don’t do that, people will say what you did. If they do say that, then people will say “how could you let this guy run your party??” Or some similar criticism.
His party has no problem saying he’s racist but still supporting him. Hell Paul Ryan has done this numerous times and he’s one of the most powerful people in the party.
It just seems as if he has people who just won’t say it. Like it would pain them to say yeah that comment was racist but I still support him. I’m just not sure what it would take.
I dunno, I think anyone saying “yeah that was racist BUT…” Is proper fucked. Maybe I don’t know how to pull off the optics.
Durbin is Dem whip.
No way he would bust out of a closed door meeting and say something that inflamed half of the world, in order to get Trump.
You are aware he and Graham thought they had a private meeting, until gop immigration hardliners were invited.
Why don’t you keyboard liberals wake up and see politics, when it is in your face?
So you’re moving now from what’s the problem with saying a cuss word to saying he didn’t say that? Yeah like I said what would it take for you to call something racist? Did you defend his judge comments as well. Kudos for sticking with it. When will keyboard trumpers say racism when they see it?
Again what would it take for you? Nothing stopping other Republicans from saying it multiple times and still supporting him.
“The White House did not actually deny the “shithole” remarks outright after the Post and other outlets reported on the meeting Thursday, instead spinning it as Trump’s characteristic toughness on immigration.”
““Following comments by the President, I said my piece directly to him yesterday,” said Graham, who was part of a bipartisan proposal on immigration that Trump rejected at the meeting. “The President and all those attending the meeting know what I said and how I feel. I’ve always believed that America is an idea, not defined by its people but by its ideals.”
However, Republican Sen. Tim Scott, the junior senator from South Carolina, told the Charleston Post and Courier that Graham told him the reported comments are “basically accurate.”
