Not a chance in hell. You must be smoking something good dude.
Correct. There have been calls on social media to surround different state houses as well sooo…
Yes and mayor of DC, since it is independent of all states. Also VP likely has authority, since ‘Mopey’ decided to sulk, and also he was the one who had to coordinate Guard activation during the riot (not tactically obviously)
Yeah. I’ve heard of these too, and seen some of the people from the 6th calling for outright assaults on the capitol/state capitols.
Some may be serious, some may not be, but they have to be taken seriously, because if they are real the consequences of ignoring them are just too great.
I don’t think its likely either, which is why I said so, when I pondered the question. I’m questioning the Democrats, and MSN narrative. Last week Trump was portrayed as a dangerously unstable, mentally ill, yet Pence refused to use the 25th amendment to remove him from office.
If Trump did authorise the use of the National Guard, then in doing so he’s not as bad as Dem’s are saying. If done in good faith then having the National Guard present doesn’t do anything to help the Trump, it instead helps Biden.
Now if it turns out someone else was able to authorise the NG, then it would be pretty important to know who it was.
I’m pretty sure even TSA could spot that one. Maybe they didn’t think they needed disguises (let’s hope the crazies never figure that skill out)
I believe it was Pence and the Mayor of DC coordinating. However use of Guard members on Capitol grounds is complicated jurisdictionally because it is not a state. They need request, plus authorization from chain of command (DoD and Army Secretary because it’s not a state), then orders. I am not sure of the entire process in detail, but nothing untoward happened.
He refused to continue the election charade by rejecting elector counts.
No Disagreement there, Just pointing out at least until Biden is inaugurated, that Trump is still the Commander in Chief of the military. If someone else has approved the NG call out, then technically Trump could send them back. He hasn’t.
He is most likely the one who actually approved their deployment.
It creates a conundrum there. Or maybe just something I don’t know or understand, but the national guard answers to their states Governor and can be conscripted into national service.
Not sure if it’s an option for the commander in chief to send them back if they aren’t actually under his command.
An interesting conundrum, and it looks like tonight’s 60 Minutes has the (Acting) DHS deputy secretary addressing exactly that:
Below is a transcript of the interview clip seen in the excerpt.
Scott Pelley: Who does the National Guard answer to?
Ken Cuccinelli: They answer through DOD. They can have—
Scott Pelley: To the president?
Ken Cuccinelli: That’s the chain of command. The whole executive—
Scott Pelley: If he orders them to stand–down–will they stand down?
Ken Cuccinelli: Well, you’re going to have to ask them, but that’s unimaginable.
Scott Pelley: If the president orders DHS to stand down, will you stand down?
Ken Cuccinelli: We’re going to complete our jobs. There’s not-- there’s not a stand down. We have a statutory mission we’re going to perform under all circumstances. And I think that hypothetical is-- not going to happen. It’s unimaginable.
Scott Pelley: A lotta things are unimaginable in Washington these days. And we don’t have a very good track record taking the president’s word on things, so—
Ken Cuccinelli: In the Department of Homeland Security—
Scott Pelley: My-- my point–is are you going to–are you going to follow—
Ken Cuccinelli: --you know, we’re—
Scott Pelley: --the president or are you going to follow the Constitution—
Ken Cuccinelli: We all swore an—
Scott Pelley: --in your role now?
Ken Cuccinelli: We all swore an oath to the Constitution. That is first and foremost. And we take Homeland Security very, very seriously. We deal with a lotta curveballs of all kinds. And yet, we march forward to keep the American people as safe as we possibly can.
As I’ve mentioned before, national guard activation is different from other branches.
They are only activated by the President if they are “federalized” under Title 10 activation. They remain under state activation and control if they are not undergoing Title 10 activation and can be activated under Title 32 by states, NOT the President. DC is different because it’s not a state, but I believe the Mayor has authority to request and I know that the Army Secretary has command of DC guardsmen.
There are completely legitimate ways to activate the guard without Trump’s say so.
Also, worth noting, is that the guard has been present for every inauguration in history (or almost)
Yeah. I think that this is of primary importance and lost on people who either never took the oath or forgot what it was they swore to.
That’s kinda why the pearl clutching over him leaving office kinda got on my nerves.
Trump is president right now. If he issues an unlawful order there is nothing in this world that can compel any member of the military to carry it out. And the JCOS has already come out against him on this, which leaves him as commander in chief by title only. Nothing more.
And on 2/20 at what ever o’clock when it becomes Joe Biden, he’ll be empowered to have somebody physically toss his ass out the door.
