Actually, honestly, I have rubber coated plates back at home with my parents and every time I go back and use the weights, they feel much heavier than the iron plates I use at the gym out where I am now. Did they get new bars? Maybe they have more bounce and that makes it feel lighter. I’ve always assumed it felt heavier because the rubber plates don’t move around at all on the bar, while the iron ones here tend to have holes a little wider than 2 inches so they hit against each other when I lift and bounce the bar around a little.
Or maybe it’s just the clinking sounds they make that make me feel more manly and lift more.

Would 45 pounds of assholes be the same as 45 pounds of iron?

Have you ever tried 45lbs of chocolate covered assholes? Yum (if you’re into that sort of thing)
Aren’t the 25 rubber plates the same size as the 45 iron plates? lol.
Edit: I think I miss read the OP. I thought he said they got rubber plates.

Gross.
But seriously, the OP asked a valid question so I guess I’ll take my shot at an answer.
I’m not sure what could possibly cause rubber coated plates to feel lighter than iron plates.
Could it be that you’re simply stronger than you were the last time you used the iron plates?
Could it be that the rubber coated plates actually weigh less than the iron plates? This brings up an interesting point…
Wouldn’t it be great if there were maybe a device… a device that could tell you how much a particular thing ‘weighs’? Then we’d know for sure if the rubber coated plates in question are actually lighter!
Ideally they should weigh the same. 45lbs = 45lbs.
But i know what you’re saying. I workout at my schools gym, and all the plates are rubber. The guy i work out with would go to a gym near his home over the summer and they use old school iron plates. Whenever he comes back he would always say the weights feel soo much lighter. On monday he went to the gym and was just repping 315 on the bp, and he said he was only able to get 4 reps at the gym near his home. I told him it might just be a thicker bar. Not sure though.

I was asking because all the plates felt lighter, stiff-legged deads and hack squats felt easier, I was able to add 30lbs to both lifts. I asked because i didn’t know, and you guys turn it into a joke.
Where are the rubber plates in question made? I’d be willing to bet that if they are made in China, then they probably weigh something south of 45 lbs. You know, weight is money.
But the real question is, why do some rubber plates smell like farts???

thank you, that’s what I was trying to say. Today was leg day for me, and it felt a lot easier
then it should have
I say walk over with them to the scale (if your gym has one) and weigh the plates. You might get some funny looks but I used to get funny looks deadlifting, so fuck EM.

Everyone knows assholes are metric and iron is standard…They don’t really convert over too nicely.
What brand of condoms do they use that fit around a 45lb plate?
…anyway you guys should try the angry whopper at Burger King its fucking delicious
plates covered in feathers would ded be heavier, all about the wind drag brah

Assuming both rubber-coated and iron plates weigh 45lb (check on scales, I doubt they do), there could be two possible reasons why they ‘feel’ lighter doing those two exercises in particular:
- they may be of a larger DIAMETER, reducing your range of motion
- they may be THICKER, thus sitting further out towards the ends of the bar, which will allow you to bend the bar more, reducing your range of motion
Even 1/4" will make a noticeable difference on any lifts performed from the floor.

oh yeah, is it covered in chocolate
I was just talking to someone about this kind of thing at my gym today. We have collected quite a few series of plates since the gym has been around, and I swear some 45s are heavy as hell. I honestly believe they weigh up to 49-51lbs.
I’ve wanted to weigh them on something really accurate to know for sure, but that isn’t exactly convenient haha. An old powerlifter there talked about how he’d go to meets and they’d weigh each plate before putting it in play, and they’d just throw the 46s and 44s out to the side. He said is wasn’t uncommon to find plates 2-4lbs off. (By the way, all the plates at my gym are iron, but I have used the rubber ones in the past. Sometimes they may initially feel light/heavy based on the holes, making them mechanically easier to pick up and move onto the bar, y’know? We have 25s at my gym that don’t have any freakin’ in-set so they’re hard as hell to pick up.)
