Tried Squatting in Wrestling Shoes?

Just wondering, I hate chucks and I usually squat barefoot, but I’ve signed up at a second gym and the floor is nasty. I’m squatting in my Reebok Zigs which is kinda horrible.

All the stores I go to carry wrestling shoes… was wondering if they are suitable to squat since they look flat heeled.

I love my asic wrestling shoes. I wore a pair of chucks for a month and I hate them. The measurements just didn’t go well with my feet. Wrestling shoes work great for me. Comfortable, easy to take on and off even when they are tightened. They’re pretty beaten from wrestling though. They don’t seem to be very durable.

I’ve always worn wrestling shoes I have an old pair I picked up at the end of the season for around 50$. I prefer squatting and DL in the then chucks. I find a have more support to spread the floor with

I’ve trained in wrestling shoes for about 2 and a half years. Love it. I already had the shoes from high school, and I discovered how awesome it is to lift in them.

I squat in wrestling shoes, wouldnt have it any other way

I have found most guys that hate chucks, it’s not the performance, but how they look. Too old school.

I have chucks and my old high school wrestling shoes, I prefer the chucks for squatting and wrestling shoes for pulling

^ Realized I didn’t actually answer the question haha. I did squat with the wrestling shoes plenty, they are definitely better than a standard tennis/running shoe imo

I use weightlifting shoes, these babies are so awesome I would use them to work if I could

I really like wrestling shoes. Just feel stable in them.

I get that too because I need a size up for my wide feet. They feel like clown shoes when you walk around… but that’s when you walk around. When you’re squatting… they’re incredible. I use to use oly lifting shoes but i wanted to get rid of the elevated heel. Haven’t looked back since.

I’ve lifted in barefoot shoes (merrell trail glove, not vibrams) once or twice and they weren’t bad. I think they’d be comparable to a wrestling shoe. I like the feeling of having a nice solid platform under my feet, and there’s nothing better than chuck taylors for that

so are wrestling shoes completely flat like Chucks ?

Yes basically, but wrestling shoes also have better traction than Chucks imo. I could slide my feet across 2’ by 2’ rubber mats while wearing chucks, but not so much with wrestling shoes. It might benefit anyone to hear that dl slippers had better traction than w.shoes, at least my pair. I took w.shoes and replaced the sole with dl slippers.

I didnt necessarily 'hate ’ them but they were just too flat footed, clunky and niche.

They are good for weight training but pretty bad for jump rope, jumping , agility and footwork drills.

Tried wearing a size 13 in Chucks’…

On leg days I only wear my wrestling shoes. Gotta wash them before I go back on the mat to get the nasty gym floor residue off of them. But if you only using them for lifting I would definitely recommend them. I would still wash (wipe with a wet gym towel) the floor that I’m squatting/DLing over.
