Thanks Tim, that means a lot coming from you…you’re one of the guys that really got me interested in competing!

Maybe flat but still absolutely shredded! You must be getting the hang of this competing thing now then?! Good luck, all this experience you’re accruing must be invaluable.

I’ve been following here but I don’t think I’ve said anything. Congratulations though, and good luck. You’ve done a great job.

X2, shredded as fuck man!

pwolves - if I remember right, you competed in a “tall” class in one of the shows. How tall are you?

Hey guys! I competed at the NGA Titan Classic in Des Moines this past weekend for my last contest outing of the year. Heading into a long (2-3 year) improvement season to pack on some quality muscle while staying relatively lean! I ended up placing 3rd in the open middleweight class. I had an absolute blast at the show.

My coach, Brian Ahlstrom, was a co-promoter of the show, so he was there along with 6 of his other clients competing in the show. Another 10 or so Team AFC (Ahlstrom Fitness Consulting) members came to support us, so it was a lot of fun catching up with and meeting for the first time some people who have become good friends through interaction on our AFC group facebook page over my 6 plus months of prep.

I don’t have any stage shots yet, but here’s one from before prejudging alongside my teammate Aaron Locke. Aaron went on to win the heavyweight class and then the overall, earning his NGA pro card. He will do a lot of damage in the pro ranks in my opinion…competed on stage at 206 lbs, and his conditioning was on point. For comparison sake, I weighed in at 177. Brian is in the background tanning up another of his clients

Haha thanks Lemony and usmccds! Don’t have the size I’d like to yet, so had to bring the nasty conditioning wise

Swimmer, yep I competed in the tall class in my first two bb’ing contests. The NANBF divides the classes by height. It just depends on the height of all the competitors where they divide the classes at, but it usually ends up being that 5’9 or 5’10 and up is the tall class. And I am a shade over 6’1, to answer your question

pwolves17- I’ve really enjoyed a lot of your posts, tried to send you a private message but was unable to. When you hired Brian as your prep coach did he just give you a certain macro goal and then you picked out the food or did he go into more detail? Thx!

Hey TeamMac, sorry man yeah I never got your message, and thanks for the kind words man it appreciate it! Brian is flexible dieting/iifym all the way. He does strongly encourage at least one serving each of fruits and greens per day and gives a fiber amount to hit, but other than that I’m free to fill my macros with whatever foods I please. He does prefer good percentage of carbs to be consumed pre and post workout, but he really isn’t strict with that unless a client’s fat loss seems especially slow. I backloaded a majority of my food (not just carbs) at night my entire prep for satiety reasons

You know you never get the size you’d like, right? The day you start lifting weights is the first day you will forever feel too small.

You look great…absolutely peeled. Hope you take a break after all the successive shows.

Very impressive prep overall. I do have a question for you…was there a limit on sugar that you consumed daily, did it matter as long as you stayed within your carb target or did you try to minimize it, maybe only peri-workout? I have a bad sweet tooth so I try to keep them around my workout but wonder if I’m overdoing it. I did alot of backloading calories and carbs as well and enjoyed it alot more than running out of food I could eat at night…left something to look forward to everyday while dieting.

Thanks Yodaddy! To answer your question, I had no limits or considerations given to sugar, just hit my carb target. I didn’t time it periworkout either. It’s kind of funny actually, the leaner I got and the lower my macros got, the higher the percentage of my carbs coming from “dirty” foods got. Towards the end of my prep, I bet 85% of my carbs came from Edy’s low fat ice cream and Village Hearth light Italian bread haha

Thanks man. I was very much hoping to hear that, Lol. My daily treat seemed to be granola in Carbmaster Yogurt with berries…and Quest Bars.

Hey Trent, ya still alive?

Lol, man that was an impressive feat to compete that many shows back to back like that. I just found this thread last night and must say, I am impressed with the conditioning you brought on stage. IMO, 1st place for most conditioned would def been a title to pass ya… Congrats on the rankings you received and can’t wait to see the damage you bring after a bulk using the HVT. your athleticism already proves you have the capacity to push the envelope harder And further than most. (And I thought soccer/track and field was a hard combo to grind back in school.

Again, good luck in the future man. And READ THAT BOOK more often…
Peace
