Hey guys, looking to buy a treadmill for the house, and was wondering if anybody had any reccomendations. Looking to spend around $600-$800, and for all the typical features. Any help would be appreciated.
Out of curiosity, why are you thinking of purchasing a treadmill? That is an extremely expensive piece of equipment that may end up being a clothes hanger. I’ve seen that happen many times. My belief is that cardio should be done outdoors (running, biking, in-line skating, stadiums, etc.). This way, you get some fresh air, it’s a nice change of pace, and it’s FREE! I could think of many other pieces of equipment to purchase rather than a treadmill or some other piece of cardio equipment. I’m not trying to sway your decision, I’m just curious as to why you are wanting to purchase the treadmill.
I bought a treadmill at sears 5 years ago for $400. I think its a Pro-Form. It folds up and stores neatly. I used to get up in the morning and go to the gym to do cardio and then go to work, but that required a lot of extra time and planning. Now I roll out of bed and walk on the treadmill before I get ready for work. Definately saves a lot of time. If you buy a cheap one, you can’t run on it though. It will break if you do. If you want to buy one that you can run on plan on spending a couple thousand dollars. The one I have serves my purpose. Like Nate said though, you can’t let it become a clothes hanger or corner decoration.
i wouldn’t buy a treadmill that was that cheap. you won’t like it and then you won’t use it. or, it will break. or it will be harsh on your knees and feet. bite the bullet and buy one for at least 1500 and you will get better motors, suspension, belts, etc. i bought a precor for 3000 (it was a floor model, 1200 off) and love it. its much better than what we have at the gym. you cab buy a treadmill at some fitness places for 18 months credit and no interest. it becomes pocket change. and you could sell a good treadmill a lot easier than a cheap one.
I have been working in the fitness industry for about 10years now and I can tell you your best bet is to buy a used commercial treadmill. Try CSM equipment in California or Big Fitness out of Rhode Island. Or hell contact me I know gym guys who are always upgrading their stuff so there are always great deals out there. For an example you could probably get a used Star Trac 2000 for between $900-$1300. Star Trac treadmills have a great reputation and for home use will last years and years.
