I ruptured 2 discs, tore a rhomboid, dislocated a shoulder and hyperextended my right knee just watching that. OW!!!
Holy shit. The sad thing is that it doesn’t look like that much weight for someone his size.
On a positive note, this thread has re-kindled my interest in this lift. I just pulled mine out of storage along with my old Oly set. I used to do 435 for a triple. It will be interesting to see how long it takes me to get back up there.

Nope. I am just interested in how long this will take. I would not be using the normal methodology, either. My current program uses varying rep schemes on sequential workouts as well as alternating workouts so I am sure it will take a while.
My goal in 2006 has been to duplicate myself at my best (mid 90s) when I was about 190 at 5’ 11". I’m at 203 this AM, but still not as strong. Then I had the 435 triple as well as a squat 405 double to parallel.

sounds like a reasonable goal. Mine is to be able to get into the pants I wore in the mid 90’s when I peaked. I also want to get into the pants of the women that are the age that I was in the mid 90’s as well. Again, my peak. Good luck to you in your pursuit.

I just discovered a positively splendid variation on the semi upright row/shrug things I was talking about on the previous page. Same exact thing only hold the handles in the plates instead of the bar(see pic on last page). Bend slightly forward and row/shrug pulling your shoulder blades together.
Anybody with a trap bar and plates with handles should really try this.
I prefer the trap bar deadlifts over straight bar ones. Seem to be able to keep better form and lift through my glutes more and keeping my back from curving.
