No, no, I’m not suggesting that anybody try to bench with an actual trap-bar. But I was just thinking, why has nobody invented a bar that would allow you to do a “barbell” bench with a neutral grip? I gotta imagine it would be a nice alternative for athletes, where the pronated grip puts a little more stress on the shoulders?
Does a product like this exist? If not, I bet somebody could make these and sell a few…
i have always been much stronger with a neutral grip than a typical benching grip, not sure why. Also, I use dumbells and can definitely feel the difference with a different grip.
I’ve always wondered this as well. Aside from the benefit of variety, I would imagine that it might be a little easier on the wrists in some situations as well as allowing one to seek a greater contraction out of the pecs. The downside of course would be the lack of width adjustability.
Obviously you could use dumbells, but there’s a reason to do barbell bench as well. If you could do barbell bench withh less strain on the shoulder I gotta think that’s a good thing.
Actually, I’m pretty sure that there are 2 or 3 different grip widths on the bar.
Right above this on the “exercise index” is Doc Ryan benching with the football bar and chains. But he’s using a pronated grip anyway, haha.
