Transwoman Takes First Place

It? What do you mean? What’s the issue here? This thread is two years old, so please don’t judge me on my circa 2019 understanding of womanhood.

I now understand why I should be thrilled for women everywhere. I now understand why women find Laurel so inspiring as she redefines our previous conceptions of what is possible in women’s athletics at age 43. Perhaps more women will follow her bold path in weightlifting and every other athletic pursuit.

I think everyone from the top of the Olympic podium on down to the lowly New Zealand women’s weightlifting alternates who were unable to compete with Laurel can agree that this is a huge step forward for women.

If anyone really cared what they think.

Agree on this. I used to argue this topic then I saw a majority of women and specifically a majority of women who would be affected by this (under 35s) have no issue with it*.

Okay, I don’t watch women’s sport anyway so let them have what they want - why should I care of women don’t?

*This survey was not specific to athletes, they may have different views to the general population but I figure you need to ask the whole pool of potential participants

It’s unfortunate, but probably true. There’s already been pushback among some female lifters, but that’s not going to do much I don’t think.

I’m 100% with @zecarlo.

May I add 1) prominent women in prominent sports (e.g. Tennis and Soccer)…and might I also suggest 2) International Federations like the Olympics? (Even though they have a history of screwing up every issue they decide to “fix”?).

The only fair and reasonable way for any of this to work is that Transgender Genetic Males Either need to compete with other males or among themselves.

Will it happen? We’ll see.

You heartless, hating bastard! :joy:

On a serious note I think the Olympic committee is screwing it up already. One only needs to look at their response to Caster Semenya in women’s track vs Hubbard and transgender athletes in weightlifting.

Oooo, you heartless conservative! Everybody is the same, haven’t you heard? Women can do everything men can do. And Tranny’s are the most equal of all beings.

I say let it burn. I want to see the war between the Feminists and the Transgender community go full on. That will be a popcorn grabbing moment. We’ll see who wins and gets the spoils. Preferably it destroys both.

This is an example of an incel.

Martina has a good take on this subject: Martina Navratilova seeks provision to Joe Biden's executive order for transgender participation in sports - ESPN

This article talks about Gavin…I mean Laural’s T levels being barely low enough to qualify a man for TRT:

Yep. Wait until a trans person takes a contract away from a WNBA player or wins a big tennis tournament. We’ll see some serious discussion on the subject then. When it’s weight lifting and cycling nobody gives a shit.

WNBA pays shit. Players get paid far more overseas.

How is being trans any different than having any other mental or physical deficiency that limits your ability to compete after a certain level?

Being good at Sports is luck of the draw genetically, and from my perspective being born trans is like being born slow or short or uncoordinated. You can play for a while, but it’s just a natural athletic shortcoming.

From that article:
Navratilova said. “We are only talking about taking a carve-out or a separate policy for elite sports or sports at the higher level of high school, college and pros.”

Yet, the trans people always pull the kiddie card.

“The kinds of proposals that unfortunately [Navratilova] and others have been promoting would really sweep way too far in terms of limiting the opportunity of transgender children being able to participate in a way that ensures fairness and opportunity,” McGowan said.

Statements like this will get you labelled as a transphobe.

Deficiency?

Laurel Hubbard is a 43 year-old with a penis who is competing in the Olympics against a field of female competitors 15-20 years younger.

Let’s imagine we have an upset woman who, hear me out, has her spot on the team taken by Hubbard. Let’s also imagine we have another upset woman who, hear me out, gets beaten by Hubbard and loses out on an Olympic Medal.

I know, it’s crazy to imagine a woman being upset by Hubbard’s bravery and beauty, but just imagine someone having those kind of feelings.

What would you say to either of these women, so they might better understand why this new conception of female athletics is a step forward?

Welcome to the Dark Side, bigot.

This is fucking stupid, since teens let alone “children” are not mentally mature. There’s no denying this since it is biological fact.

Nobody should let their 10 year old kid transition. Period. Nobody should cover this no insurance should pay for it and it should be actively discouraged. Or outlawed.

The brain doesn’t really finish maturation until 20+, so…

Very much worth a read.

To be clear to all, this is a /sarcasm off post.

I hate outlawing stuff. I really do. I think outlawing transition drugs, surgeries and therapies for minors needs to be on the table. I hold disdain for any functioning adult who fails to put in a reasonable effort at first protecting, and then rearing his or her child. Protection comes first for a reason, because without it your efforts can be for naught. Too many are failing at that basic level of parenting for my liking at the moment. Something needs to be done.

There needs to be a serious discussion that spans parents, educators, and elected officials to arrive at a reasonable policy that addresses transgenderism with good outcomes for children in-mind. In very simple terms, it ought to be treated as a phase until adulthood. I firmly believe every adult ought to be able to chart his, her or their own course, so long as it doesn’t harm others.

Most of us agree that minors can’t consent to a huge span of human behaviors due to the potential ramifications those behaviors can hold and the poor judgment of minors. This is why most of us will agree that a 14 year-old girl who becomes romantically involved with a 30 year-old is a victim, period. Her behavior and expressions are IRRELEVANT to how the situation should be judged. The adult predator is at fault, period.

We do not and should not validate the 14 year-old girl’s deeply-held feelings that this creep is the love of her life. We drive that predator out of the child’s life and take every measure legally possible to ensure that he is gone forever.

I have deep concern about transgenderism and gaining the appropriate level of social acceptance for this behavior. Those are deliberate words, and I realize “appropriate” is subjective. But it is something that needs to be hammered out in fairly specific terms, as we are beginning to learn.

I have two deep concerns with the outcome of Hubbard competing in the Olympics. My concerns about the implications for women’s athletics have been made clear, but I’ve only touched on my concerns about the implications for the transgender adult population.

One of my dearest friends came out as transgender a few years ago, and I want people in general and conservatives especially to learn tolerance for lifestyles of all kinds that don’t negatively affect other adults. People are weird, let them be weird as long as it isn’t harmful. Life gets more interesting when you befriend good-natured weirdos.

Hubbard’s entire endeavor in women’s weightlifting is a grotesque exercise that casts transgenders in some of the worst possible light imaginable. Putting this asshole on the world stage highlights the worst behaviors and ideas in an adult population that has enough problems to deal with as it is. Hubbard’s charade ought to be seen as the social and athletic farce that it is.

Amazon needs to un-ban whatever books they’ve banned that discuss this in a serious manner. None are uncompassionate. Producing hurt feelings in the people you care about is often an unpleasant byproduct of true compassion.

Nobody wants to talk about the low success rate that transition has at addressing the mental health issues the person is suffering. The high proportion of teens that regret the transition later in life, the high proportion of people who didn’t transition who are thankful.

But this is a discussion about transitioned people in female sports - which women are in favour of so I see no issue here.
