When we went from worst to first in under 150 years. When we elevated the standard of living for the poorest among us to the highest levels in all of human history. When the average citizen enjoys more liberty and freedom of action than anywhere on earth.
Even now the poor in the US are far…far more likely to die from OBESITY than from starvation. When viewed through the lense of human history it is unfathomable just how prosperous we are as a people.
No if your question is “when was our culture perfect? When did we treat the minorities and the dispossessed and women/orphans perfectly?” The answer is never. NO culture ever has been perfect and we are working at improving all the time.

I would only accuse you personally of that if you advocate for solutions that entail collectivism, government power and control as the solution to the inequity.
Example: Healthcare is too expensive and inaccessible. Lefty solution: we need single payer and rationing. Perhaps Marxist is too loaded a word. But that’s definitely a collectivist position. It takes agency away from patients, Doctors and places power in government.
Well, there’s collectivism, and then there’s collectivism. Technically speaking, the only folk who aren’t collectivists are the anarchists/an-caps. Anyone who advocates for even an itty-bitty govt is technically a collectivist.
Another Well… is warranted, I’m afraid. That’s one lefty solution. My preferred solution is a universal govt option. And it mos def would need to be rationed. (Note that individuals would be able to purchase supplemental insurance and/or pay fee-for-service to cover services above-and-beyond what’s in the govt option.)
That’s actually the only ethical way to ration care. You certainly can’t ask doctors to do it in the exam room.
I derailed this thread big time. But I think we’ve highlighted a major difference between mindsets. I think for the healthcare example the solution isn’t rationing care.
The problem is we are the fattest most sedentary population ever (myself included). We need to take personal responsibility for our own health outcomes. Thus lowering the demand side. That’s a cultural fix vs a government fix.

You fail to grasp the fact that without the left wing big cities like LA and NYC Trump would have not only won the electoral vote by even a wider margin but he popular vote as well. The observation that ‘If HRC hadn’t overwhelmingly won the major population centers, Trump would have won the popular vote’ is not exactly deep. I think most of us can grasp it.
What you fail to grasp is the demographics. The country is getting browner, younger (once the baby-boomer population hump dies), more urban, and more liberal.
Trump’s win came on the backs of poorly-educated, economically anxious white folk who felt left behind by the economy. It has nothing to do with your self-congratulatory opinions concerning right and wrong, or your trollish comments concerning ‘freaks.’

Browner does not mean more liberal. I fully understand that blacks overwhelmingly vote for the democrat. What was striking about ED’s comment was the fact that he assumes, most probably like all left wingers, that people of color will always be in the hip pocket of the left. In reality I give them far more credit than this. Their parents grand parents and great grand parents may have been fooled but that doesn’t mean that it will always be that way.

The point is things can turn on a dime in this game. Who would have figured even four years ago that republicans would win union households? But, those people are not stupid regardless of what the left wingers think of them.
