Zeb, we’ve had a fairly politically mixed group of people on this thread trying to understand the rules and the issues, and the different people this kind of thing effects. Deb is a lefty feminist. I lean right on many things, but we were talking female sports in a very friendly way together. Pfury leans left, and he brought up hormone history. Aragorn and EyeDentist were trying to focus on the science piece. I learned some things reading. Really, we were mostly being civil and not overly defensive here, with people from both parties just talking to each other.
When we start calling each other morons, there’s nowhere to go from there.

HRC’s deplorables comment will go down as the biggest unforced error of her campaign. The mistake was not in acknowledging that some of Trump’s supporters were deplorable (they are); it was in pegging the percentage at “half.” It was not only a wildly inaccurate remark; it was politically inexcusable. Whoever had a hand in including that language in her prepared remarks should be blackballed from future campaign work.

Trump’s disaffected base is experiencing a level of economic uncertainty not seen in this country in generations…They’re scared, and thus vulnerable to demagoguery. This is how Trump managed to win their support. As his planned policies will do nothing but make their lot worse, Trump will have considerable difficulty fooling them twice.

In other words, this is what Trump does:
He cites a real employment problem (e.g. most recently, the loss over the past 30 years of Coal Mining Jobs). THEN
Gives people the wrong reason for the losses (it’s not “Obama Regulations” but natural gas, automation, and the Power Industry’s slow but steady switch to cleaner fuels). THEN
Promises thousands of High-Paying jobs doing work and jobs that will never return…and if some do, not at High Wages.
Not only does this drive me crazy…it’s sad to capitalize on peoples hopes and dreams when you know you won’t be able to deliver…
I would love it if we could pay high wages to people putting in screws and rivets on an assembly line, or chipping and hauling coal by hand in the mines…but the reality is that those are jobs that have gone the way of the people who lit gas lamps at dusk in the major cities.

Secondly, I sure do hope that old Bernie and crazy Lizzy continue to pull the party to the left. Yes…you will get more of the youth vote. They have been consistently liberal for decades. So you gain the youth vote and lose the very group the votes at the highest rate those who are 50+. All Trump has to do is get more people working again and demonstrate to our enemies that Lady Obama is no longer in charge. I don’t think it will be difficult for Trump to win a second term. One scenario is the DNC puts up Bernie Sanders or Crazy Lizzie Warren as their candidate. They have caved to the far left so I am thinking that this is a real possibility. Do you know what happens then? What happens if Trump succeeds with even half of his promises? He gets a second term. For plenty of reasons:
Dems lose the blue collar vote again. Which used to be the bedrock of the party.

If it’s crazy Lizzie does she win white women? Trump beat Hillary in this category something like 53% to 47%. Seems women don’t necessarily want another woman to be President. Oh in theory they do.
