Training with a cold

Opinions or hard facts: being that cold and flu season is coming up, do you guys change your workouts when your sick. I just got a sore throat and breathing thru the nose is challanging, I don’t want to alter my workouts, suggestions? suppliments? any advice?

use 2 servings of vitamin E and vitamin C with your post workout shake. It will help.

Kali, just this minute sat at home suffering from the bitching flu. as a rule i generally cut the amount of workouts down a bit, and concentrate on strength gains and not volume, as for me personally i am not as mashed as on hig volume. i aslo start taking echinacea, and use EAS’ zma formula, as it has a really high antioxidant formula, as well as upping my bcaa quotient. i start this as soon as i get my first cold, hence a trip to GNC this afternoon…

At the first sign of a cold get Zicam. It’s a zinc based homeopathic gel that you squirt right into your nose (sounds nasty I know). Once you get past the unpleasantness, the cold goes away in about 3-4 days instead of 7-10. The symptoms are noticably decreased as well. Pick it up at CVS/Walgreens for like $8-10.

Do as Louie Simmons(if I remember correctly) does, go to the gym and make sure everyone else gets sick. :wink:

Ditto on the Zicam. I generally take off when Im sick. Its not worth getting worse and then eventually getting more sick. Gyms are one of the worst for catching things to begin with. I wash my hands as soon as I get home.

i cut back volume when i have a cold, am gonna try upping glutamine this time too. I havent had the regular flu in a while, but i dont workout when i have the stomach flu…
