I have the pink eye and dry cough, and am not sure if it would be a great idea to train. Although the pink eye isn’t bothering me much and I do feel that I am able to train, I’m not sure if it would be a good idea. Such that I may drop the weights when a sudden cough arises. Ideas?
Edit: never mind, I’m going to go and do some high rep squatting (good change to my usual squats)
i mean if you are well enough to be thinking about it… then you are well enough to be doing something. even if it is a rehabby / prehabby day… surprisingly enough i usually find i feel heaps better once i get into it. maybe because i chug back the water when i’m training and the increase in fluids helps. maybe the endorphins. whatever.
occasionally i just leave and think i misjudged things. shouldn’t have gone. that is really very rare, though, compared to the number of times i don’t really feel like it and end up having a wonderful session.
Same thing happened to me today. Felt fine once I started training and sweating, but after I left the gym… felt sick again. I guess the thought of not going to the gym was simply my ‘lazy side’ trying to get the best of me.
Don’t go to the gym with a contagious infection. That’s a dick move. If you have your own weights have at it, though I’d avoid heavy pushing exercises from my recent experience.
you know how your body develops an immune response to stuff? it gets exposed to stuff, that’s how. if you can’t train at the same gym as someone who is sick (when that person is courteous about not sneezing on ya etc) then there is something wrong with YOUR immune system.
of course all bets are off if it is the plague or something… but cold / flu stuffs, whatever…
yeah… i’ve felt pretty bad before about taking sick days off work… and training on those days. not quite sure why but i feel better while i’m training. wrecked after it… but then that is pretty normal for me. training really is the wonderful magical cure (just while you are doing it) huh.
btw you weren’t being lazy… i think you were worried about the other people wishing you had stayed away thing. don’t worry about those people. i bet those are the people who steralise the crap out of everything all the time then wonder why their immune system isn’t immune to all the regular things that it would be immune to if they actually exposed themself to the odd thing once and a while…
