Training Prep for the Marines

Concur with NvrTooLate… you will need to know how to hump. Put on a pair of good shoes, throw a ruck sack on filled with rocks or weight plates of course, and go march yourself to death… as in, do it now, as in today or tonight! See how far you can go and know that isn’t far enough. Do these soul searching hikes at least three times a week.

A week before you head out for Boot Camp at Parris or if you are going to be a Hollywood Marine, then San Diego… by the way you’ll be issued a pair of sunglasses if you go there…
give yourself some rest and relax a bit. Stay healthy; eat clean; be happy. While in hell, remember it’s just a game so they can’t kill you! Stay confident, remain happy, and keep your sense of humor. Be a team player always and I mean always! Don’t sweat the small stuff, be tough, always find a way in your head to make it fun by keeping your sense of humor and reminding yourself why you are there… to be a devil dog!

DI: “Why you smiling recruit?!”
Recruit: “This recruit is fucking happy to be here drill instructor!”
DI: “Why, are you gay recruit?!”
Recruit: “This recruit is indeed gay with delight to have this chance to be a devil dog drill instructor!”
DI: “To the pit you go then smartass!”

While in the pit performing eight count body builders, flutter kicks, and mountain climbers forever in six inches of dirty muddy water… gasping for air…

Recruit: “Ooh-rah! Give this recruit some more as he is still happy to be in your Marine Corps drill instructor!”

This didn’t end well but you get the point.

Here are some workout ideas:

Hill Sprints or Stair Climbs
Find a small dirt or grassy hill and perform hill sprints. Just do them until you drop. Make it harder by adding push-ups, star jumps, and burpees after you walk down to the bottom of the hill. Or better yet sprint to the top and knock out 20 push-ups followed by a minute of flutter kicks. The stair climbs or runs are self explanatory.

Death Rattles:
Perform maximum number of Burpees and Dead Hang Pull-Ups as you can within Ten-Minutes; scoring: Burpees = 1 pt. / Pull-Ups = 2 pts.

Hell’s Bells
Complete 100 Pull-Ups, 100 Push-Ups, 100 Sit-Ups, and 100 “Air” Squats for Time. Complete each exercise before going onto the next exercise. This is fun, really…

Body Busters (aka Body Blasters)… we performed these while holding our rifles or pugil sticks.

Burpees:

Suicide Burpees:
Perform those burpees under a high bar and add a pull-up after the jump…

To increase your max numbers for pull-ups, chin-ups, sit-ups, dips, push-ups, etc. Pavel’s Ladder training protocol will help tremendously. Remember perform your pull-ups with a strict dead hang.

Good luck kid!

Thanks, that is some seriously helpful info. you just gave me…

My current max out on bench. This was done today. Sorry its not my previous max out of 280. I weighed in at 149.7 due to your guy’s advice of running 3 miles a day. I don’t regret it though, i fell very good after a hard run. I will post squats, power cleans, and pull-ups through out this week. Sorry it took so long. Please inform me on my technique on all my videos when their posted. Thanks for the bad ass advice, keep them rolling…

This one is a miss, so inform me on what i need to work on please.
