Training Prep for the Marines

still waiting on that 2x bodyweight bench.

So now i am going to have to revise my whole workout routine because its based on a mass building concept, but if you guys are saying its all gonna come off then i will change it. Please give me some good workouts to train for boot. Before i change my routine i will post some type of video me benching close to my true max. hopefully by Monday.

“What on earth is an “elite” Marine?”

Yeah, that one made me just kinda involuntarily cringe when I read it.

I would run everyday when you get up and again before you go to bed. No less than 3 miles at a time. Try and work up to 6, been a while but I believe the longest run in boot camp is the beach run and its 5 miles. Do pushups, pullups and leg lifts like crazy. Just become an exercise endurance maniac.

The reality is, no matter what you do you will not be prepared. Even if you’re a PT stud, they will find a way to fuck you up. That’s what the DI’s do. And they all have their own little ways of doing things, my Drill Intructors were particularly fond of rifle manual with foot lockers.

Good times!

I’m sorry if I used the words wrong in my post, all I meant was that Matt K told stories of his times in the Marines and if I am not mistaken, he said that all the runs etc., he always finished under the first five etc. That’s what I meant.

I wouldn’t worry too much about adding mass, that shit ain’t gonna help you in boot camp, if anything it may hurt you. Do calisthenics and run like a motherfucker because that is what you’ll be doing in boot camp. The physical part of boot camp really isn’t that bad, it sucks for sure, but as long as you are tough mentally and not a quitter you’ll do well/be fine.

Give my regards to the quarter deck lol…

As a marine for 8 years, I tend to agree with most of this. Running is important, keep training chins and pullups, and the other basic pt stuff. I don’t think you should give up lifting by any means however.

What matt says about mentality and not quitting is spot on. I went in (ahem several years ago) as a verrrry skinny kid and refused to give up or drop out. You will become more fit(in your case it sounds like you already are very fit) and mentally stronger but you’re to busy with other shit to gauge it…you’ll just know.

If you had seen me day one, you probably would’nt think i would even graduate Boot Camp let alone the Scout Sniper program later that year. My body certainly changed yes but the huge difference was in my mentality and self confidence. You are quite fit already, just train your pt and keep your head on straight and you’ll be fine . Good luck

Still got til September so i am gonna do everything i can to get myself physically, emotionally, and mentally prepared. I know people say that its hard to prepare for it, so im gonna make the transition as painful as possible. I want to be physically elite when i get in their. Need some good push up, pull up, chin up, and leg lift workouts please!..

Please inform me on some good push up, pull up, chin up, leg lifts, and core workouts please! As well as some good running workouts to push myself. I basically do the same workouts all the time and need change it up. My boring routines are killing my intensity…

I spent a little time in the ole Corp and I would say one of the biggest things is to have muscular endurance, especially in the legs and to be able to run A LOT. What MOS are you planning on going into? Also like it’s been said before, PULL-UPs PULL-UPs and more PULL-UPs. Also train to be able to do a lot of triangle push-ups and regular, also having a strong core is extremly important too, you will to a lot of stuff wheher it be the O-course, confidence course, hazing, and pt that will work your core.

Running stairs really helps, you should train with all sorts of different grips for your pull-ups (wide, overhand, underhand, close grip), do weighter pull-ups. Sprints are good, run bleachers, long distance runing 3-6 miles, you could go on a 3 mile run and every quarter of half mile stop to do some exercises, ie pull-ups, push-ups, mountain climbers, jumping jacks (side stradle hops in the corp), bw squats, I think you get the idea

I am extremely interested to find out what MOS you choose or if you are one of the rocketsurgeons that is willing to go into my beloved Corps with an open contract. The advice that you have been given so far, is pretty spot on in my opinion. It already sounds like you have physical toughness, but any Marine that is worth his salt will let you know that physical toughness means nothing without mental toughness. When it comes to pull/chin-up varitions (neutral, wide pull-up, chin-up, pull-up and towel), I have had a lot of success in adding reps over time by doing pyramids and also by doing 5x5’s with a heavy weight.

My MOS is infantry, as well as my twin brother. He’s already close to completing SOI and he tells me to train like a fucking freak. We both have basically done this since middle school, but nothing like endurance training. He basically tells me to run hills ALOT, but i live in Iowa and its kind of flat here, so i must alternate to something different.

Interval training on a treadmill. Mix up the elevation, as well as the speed and the distance that you run each time. One thing that I noticed in the earlier posts was the idea of running in boots thrown out there, this is not a bad idea…BUT I would build into it. Not more than once a week if you do it at all. Over the duration of your time in the Corps you will be built into running in boots and utes.

That sounds like stuff…

Boots and utes is just basically running in uniform but taking the jacket off, it sucks. Iowa huh…any sand around? Run in that, its probably one of the most tiring runs you’ll ever do.

As far as core strength, make sure you do planks, and elbow planks. Also, do bodyweight squats ass to grass until you puke. Your knees need to get used to the retarded amount of use. Actually, burpees would work great too.

“My MOS is infantry”…check into 0321

No sand around here…especially where i live. Burpees? Can you give me a description on that exercise? Also, nutrition wise, whats the best way to go?..

Refer to you MOS as the “grunts” not infantry. Be a proud grunt, it’s the only real MOS. All others are just supporting MOS’s.

As for PT, strap on a heavy ruck sack (back pack for you civilians) and hump (walk really fast) up and down hills for 25 miles. I don’t care if you can do your 20 and 80 and a sub 15 min. 3 mile. You really aren’t anything unless you can hump. You can also add some reality to your hump by being tired, hungry, pissed off, uninformed and sleep deprived.

Good Luck

Hey is okay in FRONT SQUATS to hold the bar with hands instead of my shoulders?
