Toughest Gyms?

[quote]red04 wrote:

Mate I trained at a hole in the wall gym that was populated by powerlifters, BBers and gym morons. It was fairly serious in my eyes. It had free weights and racks. Isn’t that serious enough? If not then your idea of serious differs wildly from mine. TBH this ‘serious’ gym can be interpreted as a tad pretentious.

I ‘squeezed’ into the jeans cos I liked the look and the went really well with a pair of brown pointy toed shoes that I have. Remember mate regardless of what is said shoes are probably the first thing that girls tend to judge a guy by other than his looks.

Regardless of the method of entry I fail to see how a gym can be intimidating.

Are you real or a troll? From most of your posts I’d guess an orc had figured out how to use a computer and was typing, but then you seem to know something about westside…

Are they letting orcs train at westside these days?

Well said Rob. It pains me to think that these knuckle draggers think they have some sort of moral authority on where people choose to train.

Orcs are f’ing strong for their size you know, and all these 'core gyms are only about the lifting numbers.

“I laugh at all the elitist morons here”

Jack where bouts do you train, i’ll come work in on some serious sessions

I’m not sure if this is still relevant now seeing as where this thread has gone, but…

I didn’t actually train in his gym but I was coached by Jay Schroeder a few times. The atmosphere of that training environment is phenomenal. Short of that, the best training sessions I’ve had were garage sessions with guys I rowed with in high school. Just a few highly motivated guys and some equipment.

Well my gym is so hardcore in florida that just to become a member you have to play russian roulette. If your still alive then all the equipment is steal and the dumbells start at 80 cause if you lift under 80 in anything then your soft. All the cardio bikes have cocaine lines right beside them if you need a pick me up. If some one is on your machine then you have the oppurtunity to dual, they will hand you both hand guns and you can kill the other person for the machine. While your working out there is a stage in the center where girls just get nude and are high on heroin. Is my gym hardcore enough for you guys?

Alright mate. I’m training at Virgin Active right now in Glasgow. Just joined up a month ago after using the Kelvin Hall for a while. It’s not too bad. they have a powerrack and that’s pretty much all I need.

Is the roulette played with a revolver or semi-auto? That’ll tell us whether it’s 'core enough or not.

Get yourself to Unit 20, rather than Virgin active which no doubt has the atmosphere of a dentists waiting room.

[quote]Our gym is located to the west of Edinburgh, between Kirkliston and South Queensferry, at an industrial yard called the Royal Elizabeth Yard.

I am going down tomorrow, and will take a large amount of photos for this thread.

This is the list of equipment we have:

  • 2 squat cages
  • Utility bench
  • 4 olympic bars, including an Eleiko power bar and an Eleiko olympic lifting bar.
  • 2 thick bar (one hollow, one solid)
  • Approx 800kg plates (soon to be joined by around 12-16 Eleiko bumper plates - due in the next few weeks).
  • Curl bar, dumbell handles, chin up bars and belts.

Strongman kit:

  • 2 pairs of farmers walk implements

  • Yoke

  • Two large chains (one 5-link, 240kg the other 7-link 290kg approx)

  • Duck walk, adjustable from 200kg upwards

  • Three tyres - 115kg, 280kg, 430kg, soon to be joined by a 320kg ish tyre.

  • Car deadlift frame - for deadlifting cars, or tyres.

  • Three logs - 30kg 8inch diameter log, 60kg IFSA spec (13inch) log and 95kg nearly IFSA spec log.

  • Thick handle dumbell (60mm diameter handle)

  • Bar loadable tyres for overhead lifting or deadlifting - one pair at 22inch diameter and the other at 30inch.

  • Stones at 80kg, 100kg, 115kg, 128kg, 135kg, 142kg, 160kg and two halves for beginners at 40kg and 60kg (previously a 100kg stone!) as well as a platform to load them on.

  • Kettlebells in pairs - 12kg, 16kg, 24kg, 32kg, 40kg.

A viking press is going to be made soon - we have a couple of folk who train with us who are welders, so there is kit being made fairly frequently.

Access to the gym is whenever you want, as you can have your own key set made. Cost is £3 a session or £20 a month. Under 16s are free.

It is a real spit and sawdust gym, cold and damp most of the year and there isn’t a mirror in sight. However, a handful of seriously strong guys train there, so the atmosphere is ideal for good progression.

I work in a gold mine site in the eastern desert in Egypt

This our current gym, although we are getting a modern gym built at the moment,

let me tell you, me and 3 very good bodybuilders train there
so it has to be the toughest least equipped gym in the world

Haha mate your bang on about the atmosphere in Virgin. Full of roider mirror junkies who ache for the gunz. I just put my MP3 player on, crank up the ac/dc and go into my own world.

That gym sounds awesome mate however I can’t make the commute due to work commitments. Thanks for the heads up though! Looking forward to seeing the pictures though and next time i’m in Edinburgh I will be sure to pop by. Just hope I’m hardcore enough to get let in:-)

we even have a pully with a rope and a straight metal bar so we can train lat pulldowns

Maybe you should put as much effort into following your own advice as you do dragging your knuckles mate.

When did we get such a huge influx of vag on this board? I log in this morning and I see an entire thread full of 170 lb teenagers bitching and whining about the elitism on this site, “roid monkeys”, and about how they don’t want to get too big.

All of you, take your skinny jeans and scurry. You too dickabz.
