Total Body Training

I am just fininished week 4 of total body training by CW and enjoyed it so far. Does anybody know why the reps are so high on week 5, eg 2x18, 3x8, and 3x12. This seems to be all hypertrophy and endurance work while strength and explosiveness seem ignored. Anybody got any thoughts on this?

Recovery…

marko9,

That’s a good observation. The TBT program is purely for hypertrophy. You’ll notice that I mentioned nothing about maximal strength increases in the article.

The reps are high because the number of sets per exercise are low. In other words, a certain amount of volume (e.g., 24-50) is usually mandated for a hypertrophy response. Since it’s a total-body program, I had to keep the sets low so each body part can be worked in a single session without pushing the 60 minute mark. Therefore, the number of reps must be high enough to meet the necessary volume for hypertrophy. It’s all a matter of numbers, my friend.
