Toronto Questions...

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. I’m from europe and I was thinking about moving to Toronto, within the next couple of months.

Would have gone for the US, but getting a work permit is a bi-atch!

Anyway, I want to start out, by finding a job as a Personal Trainer. I’m working as a strength coach right now. But I’m hardly making any money on it. Most of it is for free.

To make it short. I was wondering if there was any gyms in Toronto that you guys could recommend, were I could apply for a PT job. It’s gotta be a place were I can make living of it.

PS: What’s the salary, now a days for PT’s. I’m sure it varies from gym to gym. But what range are we talking about?

TIA

hey, I’m out in Calgary so rates might be differant out here, but there are lots of postings for Personal trainers here, most are listing for in between 35-40K a year which roughly works out to about 18/hr.

This is at the major gyms, I am not sure of any job search sites for tornoto but for calgary there is calgaryjobsearch.ca which is a really good one, monster.ca for all of canada would likely give you some for toronto. And from a purely personal opinion, if you dont have an actual reason to go work and live in toronto I would come out into weastern canada, the economeyis going really strong without any signs of letting up escpecially in Alberta. anything else I can get you info on just drop me a pm

toronto is very VERy expensive to live in.

If you start your own personal training company (and don’t work for the gym) you can make a good 100 dollars an hour in Calgary.

The most recognized although definetly not the best personal trainer course in Canada is from Canfitpro.com. It is so basic (its a joke) you should have no problem getting certified. Toronto is an expensive city and there are many gyms here. Most trainers earn $18.00-$25.00/hr Canadaian.

Is it possible to live some what cheaper, maybe an hour or so outside of toronto

I might want to try Goodlife Fitness, I think they have about 8 locations in Toronto but they are nationwide. Outside the city would definitly be cheaper to live but if you want to live in the city try near one of the colleges as there is often cheaper places for rent because students need places to live. I can also vouch for the jokeness of Can Fit Pro, only take like two weeks and is a joke. Anyways good luck man.

You can live an hour outside the city and there are also lots of gyms outside toronto and in the suburbs.

Definately. There are many options Places like Markham, Mississuga, Richmond Hill,Woodbridge, Concord etc

If you have rely on public transportation your best bets are probably Markham or Mississauga.

I know that Young Street Fitness is always hiring full time PT staff. They pay just over $20.00 an hour Canadian, but the club is very busy. Working with 6-10 clients each day, 6 days per week is very common there.

Toronto is a blast. I live here, and love it. I am down on Queen street, behind Much Music.

You could move to oshawa, courtice or bowmanville. There are lots of jobs for personal trainers in those area’s.

If you want to work in toronto, you just hop on the 401 (or 407 if you live more north) and commute.

here’s a good place to look for PT jobs
