Torn Bicep Tendon

GREYSTOKE,

thanks for checking in my brother!
Deads were my favorite! the future remains to be seen if they will remain my favorite!

What would i have done different?

Always listen to your body.

Switch up your grip on deads. do a few sets left hand down, right up, then switch and do a few sets the opposite way. lift with both hands palm down until it gets too heavy. and last but not least…slow down and perfect your form…

these are all things i knew, but forgot.
my arm reminds all the time now!

Very wise words here!

Hope you are rehabing well!

So far so good.
REALLY tired today. Should have staye home. Arm a bit sore today.

Looking forward to post op appt Friday.

CW: Didn’t you have a similar injury and how did you rheab it?

Ya, tore my Tri. For the first six weeks all I was allowed to do was closed chained movements. Like pushing down on a swiss ball and hand bike. I slowly worked into bands and light dumbells and eventually weights. I’m still not back into the heavy weights yet but that is more a matter of choice of training rather than ability. Once football season is over I will start power lifting again. My advice is take it slow. I think you did the right thing by getting the surgery.

Good Luck!

Thanks Colin!
I’m not one of those guys that is gonna sit on my butt in front of the tv and use the remote for my physical exercise!

Glad the tri came around and the football is going well!

Keep checking in my brother…I can use all the motivation I can muster!

Surgery went great! Took about an hour. Surgeon did exactly what I wanted. Was home by 3:00 pm, introducing myself to Mr. Vicodin:)
The special calibrated brace for rehab is already in, and I’ll get it on the 13th at my post up follow-up.
Back at work today, learning to type with one hand
Going to the gym tonight…just light cardio. Don’t want to get into any bad habits of skipping the gym, plus i need to show the youngsters that us old guys can hang!

Thanks for all the prayers and well-wishes! They worked!

Note to Rusty Dog: was my choice for aggressive surgery and Therapy. I’ve met a few people with the same injury that didn’y have it repaired, and besides some distortion did ok. I’m just the kinda guy that is aggressive and wants to have a say in my destiny, and not leave it to chance. I also didn’t want my future exercise to be pushing the remote buttons while i sit my fat butt on the couch. I will be back…bigger, stronger…

I start mt rehab this friday…i’ll be 110% in less then 6 months, and i’ll be back on the platform setting new records under a year! Hell, I’m only gonna be 51, and i’ve got 3 grandchildren…someone has got to show the next generation what we’re made of…now…if only they can keep up with me!

Love the attitude, mrbeefy! Get well soon.

Thanks for sharing Beef… I will be taking your advice, for sure. I have been going hell bent for leather, and just came back from a deadlift workout about an hour ago.

Have a good rehab.

And Defect, Disinfect, Defucked, whatever your name is… learn some manners and grow up. Goof.

I tore my bicept from the bone and had surgery on september 25. I was back doing arm work 6 weeks later. As of today my arm feels great, pronation feels good but It still feel tight on supration. main thing is, as I was told Too many times " time your time" on getting back.

uwacop!

how’s your rehab? did you do anything special?

suggestions?

No lie, my arm hurt like hell when they took off my soft cast. It took about 4 weeks before I could start using like 6 lb DB. I work for a University here in Alabama so I went to the training room on Tues and Thurs. All I can tell you Is listen to your arm and dont over do it and about at 16 weeks they turned me loose. The hardest part for me is “supration” I tink thats how it is spelled. still today it is still tight. I use a 10 DB to strech with.

Doc told me it should never happen again, so I try to keep that in mind when Im at the gym. I look at it like this, I would rather have my arm fixed again, than not train and be a fat ass and die of a heart attack. One last thing, that first pullup was a MF

uwacop:
yikes! thanks for sharing!

picked up a 2 1/2 lb plate and placed it in mt left hand and could bvarely hold it.

gonne be a lond road, but i totally agree with your philosophy.

like the phoenix…rising from the ashes!

Post Op follow-up today with surgeon.
Felt really good to get all the wrappings off and see the Doc’s handy-work.
Nice little cut!

Now onto to PT! The Doc gave me the name of a guy to see, then I reminded him that I want a PT who understands sports injuries, and one who understands that I want to be aggressive, back to 110%, and back on the platform deadlifting 550 under a year. He said, “ok”, and gave me the name of a different PT.

I start seeing HER this Wednesday morning. Now I’m home in the new “Bionic” Brace. I’ll wear this a few weeks to help get back my range of motion.

Only so-so news is that it looks like we did “ping” the radial nerve, which with time, will come back, but…right now is a constant aggravation. I can move my thumb and fingers fine, but the thumb, web of the hand, and index finger, all the way up to the suture site, is constantly asleep.

It tingles all the time. I can feel pressure, but that’s about it. If I take a pencil, and clothes my eyes, I can’t tell if I’m being touched with the point or the eraser. It feels the same, just pressure. Will start to push the vitamin B, and hope PT will help. Trying to fall asleep with this feeling is very difficult (like I didn’t have enough problems sleeping!) Drives me up the “frickin” wall!

Back to good news:

Have been in contact with Shawn Cain and Brad Gillingham, both remarkable power lifters who have both had the same procedure I did, on BOTH arms! They have come back to set world records post operatively, and are being great with support. (Brad now deads over 900 lbs). Brad has even e-mailed me HIS rehab workouts.

So, onto rehab…the phoenix shall rise from the ashes!

and…yes, I did go to the gym after I saw the Doc, did cardio, lots of stretching, and such!

Keep all the words of wisdom coming!

Mr Beefy

Healing continues!

Glad to hear your doing well. Thats the same brace that I had, I donated it to the sports medicine group that did my PT. I wore mine when I slept at night, just to protect it. During the day I just worked it alot while watching TV with the brace off.

Glad to hear everything is going well. Keep us posted, and thanks for your insight Uwacop!

Damn good news having Brad G. in your corner.

Rehab coming soon I hope.

OUCH!!! I managed to get insertional tears of both biceps doing of all thing a trapeze class - an hour of dangling from your arms hurts! Nothing like as pretty as yours though - I just got pain, numbness and swelling. The main problem is giving yourself enough rest time. My doc told me no gym for six weeks.

Of course I went back after four and re-damaged them so rmember to errr on the side of too much recovery time rather than too little. Hope it all gets sorted soon

Thanks edn!

I start PT tomorrow and can’t wait to meet this therapist. I have a zillion questions and can’t wait to get started!
