Tony Horton

It’s en vogue now what with skinny jeans and all. yeah, I would say it is very much easier to simply starve yourself skinny than it is to spend 5-10 years building your body up.

These types can get clients easy because it is always easier to get someone to lose some body fat rather than completely change how they look and slap on 30lbs of muscle.

Dude, I remember people looking up to Markie Mark…or Jean Claude Van Damme. They at least looked “built” to some degree. This guy is just skinny and lean. How is that a goal to men today?
Just goes to show the utter lack of physical excellence in America.
When you set the bar really low, it’s easy to jump over, then brag about it later.
But, you would think they would get tired of seeing so many people like themselves. It’s like a carbon copy parade through the gym lately…dudes balancing on balls and showing off their super ripped alarmingly skinny physiques.

It’s easy to not eat and barely make any muscle gains. You just have to starve yourself.

I just find it hard to believe that someone built like an anorexic basketball player is now the physique goal to millions.
But you come from a different perspective. You want to be a freak, a bodybuilder, a stand-out. Most Americans WANT to conform.

I’m not taking their side, I’m just stating a fact. If you walk into any random American’s home, you’ll see the same damn decor from one house to the next. Most people can’t think for themselves, let alone their true image they want to portray publicly. Look at someone like Kai Greene. The man himself is a freak, and he lives like a freak. That’s an original right there.

Tony Horton relies on people’s NEED to fit it.

I’ve noticed that…the house furniture thing. Every friend I have in the same age group (ESPECIALLY IF MARRIED) has a similar “style” to the house.

I’ve got swords everywhere.

I guess I have a problem.

LOL

rather well said. Also remember that most of America doesn’t work out. I believe stats show only 15-18% (or am I thinking of strictly gym members), and how many of them do it regularly?

anyways, if you don’t work out and look like a slob, of course looking like the Hort’s will seem appealing and achievable

This x 1,000,000

I’ve seen Horton’s goofy commercial where he climbs a rope. Let’s see him do THIS (starts at 1:25) Mike Dayton was in his 40’s here.

Jack Lalanne did some epic shit as a little skinny guy in his 50’s and never gets a mention.

I hate diets.

I would rather split wood for 2 hours a day so I could eat than starving myself.

Would not work either, I would just look like a coke bottle.

Has Tony ever heard a Who?

I have to confess that I had several windows open at once and I accidentally submitted a comment that was meant for another thread. In my haste to find something vaguely on topic I posted a Horton joke. Multi-tasking ain’t my forte…

Hey guys… Guess who never said that my goal was to look like Tony Horton? Me… Why did you assume that? My goal is more along the lines of Hannibal for king, al kavadlo, Swiss love. Actually If I could pick one physique, it’d be Matt Serra in his fight against GSP.

I’m so fed up with this guy. Fuck Tony Horton and his p90x bullshit.

See, I HATE that. I mean I hate the idea that everyone has to look about the same, dress the same, have the same style home and decor inside their home… YUCK!

What may be even worse is that they seem to want that for themselves. It would be more excusable if there were some ayatollah or dictator commanding them to be that way. It’s really bad when you’re so cowed that no one even needs to be there to keep you in line.

People seem so worried about standing out it’s become pathetic. Hendrix was right:
“White-collar conservative flashing down the street,
Pointing his plastic finger at me.
He’s hoping my kind will soon drop and die.
But I’m gonna wave my freak flag high!”

K, sorry… rant over.

Horton is in great shape (especially for a 50+ year old) if your goal is the “general fitness” kinda look.

Did he get the way he is by solely training “P90X” style? Probably not. Does he predominantly train that way to maintain his look? Sure, why not?

The guy found a niche and is making a good living off of it. Good for him. Not my sort of thing but to each his own.

Gregron, google some current pics of Dave Draper, Albert Beckles, Larry Scott, or Ed Corney. They are considerably older than Horton and look better. Just because he’s 50+ doesn’t mean he has to settle for looking like a New Year’s Rockin’ Eve show host who’s into jogging.

Not to mention, at least (I don’t know it fully) but the program seems somewhat legit, without relyin on shake weights, 6-min ABs for other total BS. The marketing is genius.

What do you mean jack lalanne gets no recognition? He’s the grandfather of fitness, has the longest running health related show ever, and got tons of publicity for all the things he did. Swimming from alcatraz twice, once bound with a boat, 1033 pushups in 20 min, the list goes on. He got a lot of recognition.
My point of this post wasnt to praise Tony Horton (though I do think he’s in great shape), to learn how to look like him, or to say he’s better than everyone else… I was just curious as to whether or not you guys thought he actually does it or just sells it. I’d rather have a Matt Serra build, myself. Nice and stocky. Nobody here has said that he (Horton) is better than lalanne or anyone else. Almost all of you made assumptions. Yes, there’s a lot of people who know Horton and not lalanne, but that’s just cause he’s current. He’s becoming (in the publics eye) the jack lalanne of today. That’s why people know him. He’s on tv every second of the day it seems like. Lalanne and all of the other guys aren’t. Personally, I think the Barstarzz should be the lalanne of today. Look them up, it’s impressive.

“look better” is a subjective term… but I know what you’re saying.

thats obviously the “look” that he’s after and (obviously) its a look that sells.

like I said, thats not the look i’m after but its what he wants and he got there.

Serra’s right bicep looks awful.

Maybe he’s not going for a “look”. Maybe he sees other 50 year old guys around and says “I don’t want to look anything like them”. Maybe he wants to be really lean like that. There’s certainly nothing wrong with how he looks and I bet he’s pretty damn healthy.

Instead of looking down on him for not acheiving our goals maybe we should praise him for hitting his own.
