Today in Taran's Body (Log)

I restarted my grip work today. My forearm is completely better now. I have lost a fair amount of strength, as I can no longer close the #1. I just found out ironmind came out with a 1.5, I am going to get it.

V day 3.

Today went perfectly fine up until I felt sick. I decided to switch my workout plan (trying to set a new bench/squat PR) with spending an hour in a horrid cold sweat pukeing my guts out.

After vomiting every atom of substance in my stomach I am left weak exhausted, ill, and wired. I tried taking pepto and chewable gravol to deal with it, but I just puked them back up. I ended up having to take gravol “the hard way.” I will be eating 1 peice of flax toast to catch up on the multitude of calories I vomited, as there is no way I could stomach a shake at the moment.

I am NOT giving up, even though this toast is a set back. A weak stomach is a curse but a weak mind is a choice. I will not fail.

It appears that my body can handle one HOT-ROX, which is good news. Today went quite well and I had no problems. I am actually surprised by the lack of cravings, I was expecting to desire solid food more. Tomorow is a workout and I will be able to weigh myself. I am not sure if there will be any change as it will only be day 5 and I did have some toast after throwing up. It will be interesting either way.

I am looking forward to having some Surge tomorow.

Well, it appears yesterday I accidently posted as my fiance. I doubt I am the first person to have that happen.

Weight
207lbs>205lbs

DB snatch x3
50lbs>60lbs

BB row x5
115lbs>125lbs

Incline DB bench press x5
40lbs>60lbs

Things went quite well today. I haven’t lost any strength from being on the V, though it is only day 5. I am quite pleased with my results thus far.

I kept my front squat weight the same, even though I COULD do more. I decided to focus more on my form and making sure I am going ATG (ass to grass). So right now I am ATGing 135lbs with my front squats.

I also noticed my stamina is getting better. I worked really hard today and even though my heart rate was really going, I didn’t feel ill at all.

Day 6

I don’t feel sick at all, so today is a good day. Now that I have figured out how to not feel constantly ill, I am not worried about maintaining this diet. I have been fairly hungry today but thats not a big deal.

It is so bizare to see how quickly my body is changing. I feel like the incredable shrinking man. I ALREADY look different, especially from the side. Feeling small is not very pleasant but acheiving a state of relative leanness is important.

My friend from Vancouver is coming to visit today. It is going to suck watching someone eat food. With atomic_seed and I both on the V its not something I have had to deal with. At least she can eat all our food so it won’t go to waste.

V day 7

Weight
202.5lbs

Thats a total loss of 9.5lbs in the past 3 weeks.

My friend from van was working out with us today. We did a different program so that we could show her some good lifts (she has never squat or deadlifted before). I also managed to set two PRs.

This is my progress since I started REALLY lifting in june.

Bench
June 115lbs>PR as of today 185lbs

Deadlift
june 115lbs> PR as of a few weeks ago 250lbs

squat
june 115lbs> PR as of today 250lbs

Now of course I am still very small and weak, but I am bloody proud of my progress.

Weight
202.5>203

dynamic lunge x10
20>25

Push press x4
115>120

standing DB military press x10
30>35

Deadlift x3
225>235

I am very pleased with my deadlift and pushpress progress. If I can do 3 deadlifts at 235 I am pretty sure I can raise my PR up from 250. My grip work has obviously been paying off, as I had no issues on my deadlifts today.

I haven’t lost any weight since wednesday, but I am not really surprised. I am more surprised by how much weight I have lost already, and by how well my strength is doing.

(V day 12)
Weight
203lbs>201lbs (total loss: 11lbs)

front squat x15
95lbs>100lbs (ouch)

bent over row x15
65lbs>75lbs

flat DB bench press x15
35lbs>40lbs

drum roll
I did a 2-handed pinch with 45s!!
mwahhahaha…
I made 4 goes at it, all of which made it off the ground. I have never been able to even get 45s off the ground before so this was amazing. I even managed to hold one set for 4 seconds. I was very proud. Once I can do these for 15s I will move on to 1-handed pinch.

So today was great. I did a bunch of reading on bench form and realized how wrong I was doing it (elbows flared, flat back, no heel driving). Today I started working on fixing that with my DB bench. The difference was amazing.

DB military press x5

deadlift 5 singles

Everytime I go to the gym I am amazed by this diet. I have dropped almost 15lbs and my weights go up everytime I go to the gym. I will take measurments and more pictures, tomorow (so my muscles are cold), to mark my progress thus far.

If I can drop another 7.5lbs I will have hit my most optimistic goal. If I can end this diet in the 180s I will be fucking thrilled. I can’t beleive I keep getting stronger…

While today was fun it is tomorow that im excited about. I got my new workout from Mr.Green. I will be doing all sorts of things that I haven’t done before. I am particularly looking forward to the snatches stifles childish giggling.
The format of this log is going to have to change somewhat. It will be more a record of new acheivements and commentary on my workouts, as opposed to a direct copy of what im doing.[/quote]

i am a beginner in the whole body building thing i was wonder what does 3x5 and 3x3 mean and i can now bench 200lbs

Your enthusiasm is really great, I hope you keep it up. From the sounds of your workout you are doing a “few” to many reps. I would suggest doing a search for one of the meny excellent programs on the site. Big Boy Basics for example is a program I intend to start in January, check it out.

If you are really keen to keep a public record of your training/progress you should start a log. Comments and questions on my log are perfectly fine, though I am a poor source for information, but your own log would be a more appropriate place to track your training.

If you see things like 3x5 5x5 etc it refers to the set/rep scheme of the lift. The first number refers to the amount of sets you do, the second is the amount of reps in each set. I hope that helps.

V day 17

Weight
197.5>197 (total=15lbs)

Today sucked. I had to take a gravol yesterday afternoon to counter the affects of a migrane, I was still feeling it a bit today. Most of my lifts were down 5-10lbs, though woodchop was up 15lbs. I also started doing some bicep isolation work, just 3x5 curls. Its amazing how weak my biceps are. I was doing 30lbs and STRUGGLING. I will definetly continue with them.

A guy at the gym got me to spot him today. I spotted him for a couple sets of this weird bench variation he was doing. He was benching down to just below his chin, like right on his neck, and after a few reps he would just kind of lift it up and down quickly (only 3inches or so) then needed my help to get it back up.

A while later I was helping him with some incline DB bench sets. He was working with a really extreme range of motion using 80lbs DBs. He would go down a low as his arms could possibly go before pushing back up. He only managed 2 reps before failure, and needing my help, but he kepts going even after failure (with the same range of motion). I managed to help him get it back up about 3-4 times but after that I just couldn’t do it.

He obviously had very little left in the tank and I am no where close to curling 80lbs. I felt like a bit of a wank for failing as a spot.

Only one more day of this workout and its on to big boy basics.

First day of Big Boy Basics

V day 19

Weight
197lbs>196.5lbs (total loss 15.5lbs)

Bench press 8x3
135lbs (up 5% next week)
-As I have just fixed my bench form (elbows tucked, back arched, heel drive)my bench is quite low at the moment.

Seated row 8x3
110lbs (up 5% next week)

chip up 8x3
30lbs off
-actually finished the whole thing with some left in the tank administers pat on back

DB shoulder press 8x3
40lbs
-not quite sure what a semi-supinated shoulder press looks like, im going to have to do some research

My right arm was giving me shit today. My shoulder was hurting, probably b/c I was using the wrong grip for my shoulder presses, and so was my forearm. Hopefully things will be ok.

Bugger…

I just found those 4 T-Nation articles on soy, needless to say I am not pleased. I am going to really have to figure out how to organize a meal plan for myself after the V. Soy has made up a pretty significant portion of my diet and that needs to change, I just don’t really know how to fix it yet.

V day 20 (eight days left!)

Weight
196.5lbs>195lbs (total loss = 17lbs of fat)

(weight up next session +)
(weight down next session -)
(same weight next session =)

Squat 3x8
200lbs -
My form got a little sucky near the end. I will drop to 185lbs next week to ensure ATG.

Leg raises 3x8
BW =
I have never done these before, they are bloody hard. My form and range of motion are poor at the moment. Practice practice practice.

Deadlift 3x8
185lbs +
These went really well.

decline situps 3x8
BW =
It will take a while before I have full ROM.

standing calf raises 3x8
200lbs +

V day 22

Weight
193.5lbs (total loss 18.5lbs)

Incline DB bench 3x8
35lbs +
uh…we actually remembered it wrong and did decline, hence the unusually light wieght.

incline DB rows 3x8
35lbs +

barbell bench 3x8
I actually can’t do these, they are agonizing pain in my forearm. I fiddled with a bunch of different bi exercises and the only one I found that didn’t kill was cable curls with the rope…sigh

reverse tri pressdowns 3x8
We actually forgot to check how to do these, so we ended up doing tri pull downs with the rope.
90lbs

If you can’t tell I had two final exams today. I am not normally such a space cadet. Either way we had a good intense workout.
