So I took a week off because of my arm. That week off ended today.
Weight (with clothes)
207lbs
Deadlift (5x5)
200lbs>210lbs (grip failed on last rep)
Seated row (3x8)
120lbs
Bent over row (3x5)
115lbs
I had my x-ray yesterday and the results will be in on monday. Thankfully I can do all of the above without aggrivating my arm. It seems the only things that really piss it off are curls, skull crushers, and grip work. I can do without the first two but considering the state of my deadlifts I really need stronger hands gnashes teeth in frustration.
This workout was great. It is awesome to be squating over my body weight, even if its only 3lbs over.
I got my xray results back today and my arm is “fine”. There are no bone issues which means i just screwed the muscles there somehow. The result being that I won’t be able to do any curls, grip work, or skull crushers for the time being.
I am organizing to get some distance coaching from Nate Green, which I am quite excited about.
Bench press (5x5)
3x160lbs (four reps on 3rd set)
2x155lbs (3 reps on second set)
pull ups (3x5)
all negatives
sooo close to one full pull up
close grip bench (3x5)
1x145
2x135
My spotter was no show today and it psyched me out, fucking pathetic. I am fucking pissed with my poor performance.
My left side felt particularly weak today and it was a strugle to not lift my left shoulder to compensate. Goddamn.
I have sent all my forms off to Mr. Green. I am looking forward to getting on to something new. I have been doing this program, or something close to it, since June and it feels like a change would be helpful.
Deadlift (5x5)
3x5x210lbs (grip gave out on 3rd set)
2x10x135lbs (I decided to go light and work on my form, as I fear it is getting sloppy)
seated row (3x8)
120lbs
bentover row (3x5)
115lbs
The grip issue with deadlift was, of course, quite frusterating. I do beleive though that the lighter work was helpful for my form. I am going to do some more reading to night on deadlift form to make sure I am doing it properly. If I need to drop my weight for good form, so be it.
I am starting to notice a trend of shite workouts…
Hey good job Taran, we all like to see a new face with some determination. I had a workout partner a while back with some grip/arm issues, he ended up getting some wrist wraps, read wraps not straps, and they helped him out a lot while his arm healed a bit. Takes a lot of the pressure off. Anyways, good luck with the program!
My performance was pretty weak today. I am glad though to have found chin ups and dips, they don’t screw with my forearm at all. I think whats been going on is that my diet is shitty. I was making great gains when I was really eating a lot. I cut the calories cause i was starting to get fat, not just a bit chubby but actually kinda fat. Now that my calories are down I am not making much in the way of gains. Anyways, this will all be sorted out once Mr.Green gets my papers.
While today was fun it is tomorow that im excited about. I got my new workout from Mr.Green. I will be doing all sorts of things that I haven’t done before. I am particularly looking forward to the snatches stifles childish giggling.
The format of this log is going to have to change somewhat. It will be more a record of new acheivements and commentary on my workouts, as opposed to a direct copy of what im doing.
I really had a good time doing snatches, I wish I had found them earlier.
Doing supersets is really taxing, especially considering I haven’t done them in years. I also discovered that I strongly dislike bulgarian split squats. I am finding it quite hard to balance and my shorts restrict my ROM. Other than that I really had a good time. Thank you Mr.Green.
Does anybody know if you are supposed to take a break between the exercises in a superset?
I did a series of high rep exercises today, most of which were in the 15 rep range. I have a feeling i am going to be crazy sore tomorow. Nothing quite like 15 rep bulgarians to restrict a person to a wheel chair.
I did a bunch of nutrition research today as it has become apparant that food is the weak point of my program. I reread massive eating and 7 habits. I SHOULD be getting about 3.5k cals a day but according to fitday I am getting closer to 2k, which means im a big asshat who needs to figure his shit out if he wants to make any real progress. This is the part where being a vegetarian is a big kick in the nuts. I need to “take it like a man” and figure this shit out. It looks like eggs and cottage cheese will be becoming good friends of mine. I need to come up with a strict day to day meal plan so I can’t fuck up.
It’s nice to see such determination (I’m personally getting my ass back in the gym after 3-4 weeks of almost no activity, and seeing your log helps).
One thing I was wondering on the nutrition front though was whether or not you’re eating enough healthy fats (omega-3 in particular?) … personally I take both omega-3 on it’s own, as well as fish oil caps… and I find if I don’t I get really weak. I went on a business trip in the beginning of september, for five days, and was too lazy to bring my fish oil and omega-3 with me. I missed three workouts due to the trip, which shouldn’t make much of a difference usually, but when I got back in the gym, I felt weaker than I’ve felt in months. Next business trip (which was a week) I took my omega-3 with me, as well as some protein powder and when I got back I was still on track.

Thanks a lot. I am really glad my log is helping you out. As far as my fats situation goes I guess the answer is “I hope so”. I am taking a flax supplement right now, I really wish salmon were a type of gourd or something haha.
Oh I am bloody ecstatic about those deadlifts. 250lbs is the most weight I have ever moved, to manage it five times was glorious. I think I could have gone a little heavier on the pushpress and some other overheads today. I am not yet really comfortable with my overhead stability, but its getting better. Today was an awesome workout, 9/10.
I am feeling more confident about my nutrition. I did a huge shop yesterday and stocked up on things like egg whites, cottage cheese, etc. I am making a real effort to hit 3.5k for the cals. On the protein front I am hitting 200g pretty much every day now. It is awesome to be making progress on this front as well as with the weights.
Today was good times. My right shoulder hurts a bit, but its not a big deal at the moment.
There were 3 local MMA fighters cutting weight at the gym today. The whole idea of being able to cut weight seems kinda off to me, but I don’t really know much about it, I am probably just missing something. I should really get around to going to a fight some time.
I did successfully do a chin up today from a full extension.
In v-diet news:
Well this morning went great. The HOT-ROX were quite pleasant, as is burping rasberries. Biotest protein tastes bloody awesome, which was a great surprise. I did get a little hungry earlier but hunger isn’t a big deal. My workout was good, though I was pretty wired from the rox. The problem came after working out. I pushed myself quite hard today, I missed almost two weeks and Im on the V so I made sure to giv’er. I was feeling a bit ill afterword but that happens fairly often.
When I got home though it got bad. I ended up barfing up my Surge and half my last shake and then passing out for 45 min. I just woke up now. While I am feeling quite a bit better there is no way i could keep a shake down. I would kill for a peice of toast. I can deal with hunger, I can deal with craving, but barfing is going to cause some problems.
:edit:
My fiance just decided to join me on my V adventure. We ordered all her stuff a few moments ago. She is pretty aprehensive about it but I’m sure it will be fine.
Hey, I tried the v-diet for a few days, my stomach started turning quite a bit as well, but I think I just have a sensitive stomach, and I’m working towards fixing that (eating less sour foods, more dark green veggies, etc) before attempting the v-diet again. Also, I was not using Biotest protein powder, which may have been a problem, next time I try the v-diet I’ll order some.
