To Strap or Not to Strap, That Is the Question?

The biceps in greatest risk is the underhand arm. It comes by flexing your biceps during the pull. If you allow your arms to act as cables you will never rupture your biceps.

I believe that rupture is due to weight being pulled more than use of AAS.

Yeah, it’s tough to curl five hundred pounds. But it ain’t deadlifting.

I’m sure people on this board have hurt biceps with a mixed grip. I’m not making fun.

It’s sometimes weird when people talk about authenticity and legitimacy. It’s weird with food, and it’s less weird with weightlifting. Yes, plenty of folks at the gym cheat, falsely humblebrag, don’t know what they are doing, use machines, have lifts that don’t meet competitive requirements…

And that’s fine, being bothersome only if misrepresented. Nothing wrong with quarter-squatting big weight. Your circus your monkeys. Just if you claim you squat that weight, perhaps. Perhaps you could costume in parachute pants and claim you are “2 Legit to Quit”?

I don’t know of a federation that would disqualify a deadlift for the lifter pulling with their biceps. Though I believe it does not fall in the category of best practices.

I cannot get used to them either or the olympic style ones

It can be weird whenever people think that their hobby is somehow the purest expression of something. My uncle is an extremely accomplished bow hunter with open disdain for crossbowmen, who get to have first crack at the big bucks during archery season. He thinks archery season should only be for real archers like him. If you ask him, arrowing trophy deer with a precision-machined compound bow made from modern composite materials with fiber-optic sights is the purest expression of hunting.

Another uncle has a similarly lofty conception of his fly fishing hobby, which he believes to be a more pure expression of fishing than slamming bass on rubber worms. If you ask him, donning several thousand dollars worth of gear to wade into a stream and catch a few trout is the purest expression of fishing.

When it comes to strength training, I don’t want to hear about anyone’s authenticity unless they are either training with rocks and logs or donning metal armor to train with melee weapons. Training with military bows long enough for your skeleton to deform also earns you the right to call yourself authentic.

Just do you are aware, I can grip beyond what I can dead lift.

If I fail a deadlift, it’s not because of grip, I just can’t get the weight to my knees, actually once I get it to mid shins I can finish.

IMO, once your grip is stronger than what you lift, you can use straps all day long.

I’ve also never lost a farmers hold for time, I’m undefeated.

I need a stronger back and azz though.,…

People being the egotists they are they tend to look down on their neighbouring city or state or country, those who practice a similar but somewhat different hobby (e.g. CrossFit or others interested in “the wrong/ useless/ inferior” type of fitness)…

Many people give weight to the “tyranny of trivial differences” (much of religious and military history)…

It’s all about doing the superior dance. But it’s healthier to only do the superior dance on rare occasions.

I thought my grip was gorilla strong. I was surprised I could add another 150 pounds to a rack pull and another 50 pounds to a deadlift using straps. So I am in favour of using straps for the heaviest exercises.

I’m going to contend the heavy rack pull, held in place at maximum effort for three seconds or more, is not just an ego lift. Every muscle in the body is asking for more ATP. But the farmers walks are better and more practical too.
