Apparently so! Your commitment to building to a 5k inspired me to run again, and various people’s consistent cardio training is further group motivation.
I jogged regularly six years ago but fell off the wagon. Nothing burns fat for me like jogging. Dan John wrote about doing what we aren’t good at to cause greater adaptations, and running is that activity for me. With joining the transformation, I’m taking fat loss and consistent training seriously again.
Will update after doing leg lifting. It’s snowing, so front squats followed by deficit deadlift circuits should qualify this workout for @TrainForPain’s tough 'n masculine label. Altho, saying it that way sounds kinda… neither tough not masculine
Front squats
45 x 10
85 x 5
115, 130, 145, 160, 175, 190, 205 x 2
205 x 5 (back squats, definitely out of practice)
Deficit sumo deadlift
135, 165, 195, 225, 250 x 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
275 x 8 sets x 3
Felt great! Still loving sumo deadlifts. Too tired to superset them with goblet squats.
It was 31* and snowy (not especially cold), and I sweated through my base and middle layers and into my outer hoodie. The metabolism is working.
Yep. I had a four/five foot long by one foot wide strip of bare wood to stand on; I don’t fancy squatting or deadlifting while standing in snow. One little slip could tear things apart that are really meant to stay connected.
Thanks! Even more awesome was a dumbbell clan and press workout I did a couple winters ago - 6" of snow, 17* plus windchill, clean and pressing a 75lb dumbbell. The GoreTex in my boots was useful that day Since then, I’ve noticed a pattern wherein I have to do at least one backyard snow workout each winter.
Speaking of which, how the weather where you’re at? We’re finally getting a splash of winter.
That’s temperate. I’m one of those people who gets happy and energized when the temperature is below freezing. I went to college in Alamosa, Colorado for a couple years. I don’t recall the temperature ever getting above 30* for 2.5 to 3 months. Loved it. How about you, do you loathe snow and cold?
I’ll put it this way: I’m looking to get a condo or apartment in the south for the winters. The only thing that’s held me back is the kids’ pesky school
Hands down best beach I’ve ever been to was Galveston, TX. Oddly enough, I was there for a church event, rather than part of the usual flock of spring breakers, haha, but it was sweet. Good beach, warm water. I was mostly in Houston and decided from the heat that I would never live in TX but maybe that’d fit your description.
Despite my love of cold weather and snow, I’ve considered looking for work in the area. The people I know who’ve moved from NM to Texas have dramatically improved their quality of life.
I think it’ll be helpful to recap each week’s exercising and, as I progress, dietary habits.
Lifting
3 days, 2 UB, 1 LB
Began doing 350 sets of curls, tri ext, and lateral raises on UB days
Flat bench has been a good change from low incline
Arms have been pleasantly and surprisingly sore from isolation work
Elbow tendonitis is severely limiting pull-ups
Did my leg day at home after biking. I liked the combo so much, I’m considering how to program legs and upper body each 2x/week and 3 cardio days. I’ll revisit this idea in a month or two, because the current program is working.
My hip feels good after the exercise bike/ front squats/ free weight sumo deficit deadlift workout
Cardio
90 minutes total, 3 sessions
Two jogging sessions, one of four 1/4-mile intervals, one of 0.75 mi jog, both followed with incline treadmill walking
My quads were sore for days after the 3/4-mile jog
Diet
I’ve reduced pre-bed snacking and am primarily drinking sweetened almond milk as my coffee creamer
I’ve eaten several large salads in place of noodles or bread for or with meals
@ChongLordUno I haven’t seen you post in your log for a bit. Am I completely overlooking it, or have you not been around? If not, how’s everything going?
