TM79's Training Journal

Sounds like a dream scenario. Unfortunately, everyone in my gym loves the power racks. Enjoy it man!

As far as machines go, if they have HS iso lateral machines in there, especially the chest press machines, give those a try. Most of the Hammer strength and Life fitness stuff is well made.

Yeah, that’s the way it was at my last gym. It was a little bit younger crowd in there though since it was right down the street from the college. This gym is out in suburbia where I live so there are mostly middle-aged and older folks in there. Yep, they have a ton of HS stuff. I should shoot a video sometime. You would love this place.

Yesterday’s Cals: 3,000

Complete as many rounds as possible in 25 minutes of:
200-m LISS
3 rounds of Strict Cindy
1 round of Strict Cindy is 5 strict pull-ups, 10 push-ups, and 15 squats.

Stats: 4 Rounds

Comments: Pretty beat from yesterday but it’s metcon morning. And Shane, sorry but I’m not terribly sore this morning. My hip is barking though, from the Leg Press and A2G squats.

Metcon: This was a good one. Didn’t really hit my stride until about round 3 or 4. I was cruising through those and could have easily done this for 40 minutes, but I’m out of time. Have a good Friday!

Surf Session: Access 2. ~1 Hour.

Surfing: It’s been pretty flat ever since the hurricane went through. There are no sand bars anywhere at Wrightsville Beach now, and the only place that it breaks at high tide is at the North end. So I went up there and paddled out on the longboard and had an absolute blast. It was really hollow with sets in the stomach plus range. I caught so many waves I was literally out of breath for most of the session so I’m sure I torched the hell out of some calories. I paddled out with a guy that I met on the beach while I was checking it and he was having a blast on his new board. Just an all around great session. First time in a wetsuit in probably 6 months. Usually we have until the end of October before we have to suit up but global warming must have just ended because it has been very cool for the last few weeks and the water temp dropped 10 degrees. Super fun time.

Good session Trent! Surfing sounds like it was a blast.

You are not sore? You are goin to have to try harder. :joy:

Hopefully that hip stops barking. Sore hips are for the birds.

Ha ha, yeah, 2 plates per side on leg press? Definitely going to have to try harder than that. :joy: Sadly that actually felt pretty heavy… :woman_fairy:

Yeah, it is the IT Band and Piriformis that are hurting. Those used to plague me back in the day. That was the reason I switched to box squats a few years ago. I got to the point that I could barely walk when I did regular squats. Now, any time that I squat or do similar exercises where my hip goes further than slightly below parallel it starts hurting…

LoL. Leg presses are all different, but they are actually a pretty good workout once you get them dialed in and accustomed to using them.

Stop doing things that hurt. :joy:

Yep, they are much easier on the back than squats, that’s for sure. They have several variations of leg press in that gym. It’s just nice to have different options available. Stop things that hurt? Could have sworn I thought of that before? Memory loss is a bitch. :joy:

Unscheduled Rest Day

Comments: Not sure what I ate for dinner last night but I didn’t sleep well and my stomach is all kinds of screwed up this morning so I’m taking the day off. I was supposed to do heavy squats and bench today and these aren’t really the right conditions for that. LOL. Hoping for tomorrow…

Sorry to hear that! Hope you feel better tomorrow Trent!

20-Cal LISS (200-M)
5 DB Power Cleans, 2x40 lb
100’ DB Shoulder Carry, 2x40 lb

Stats: 2 Rounds +200-M LISS

Comments: Stomach is mostly better today. Later this morning I’m having a CT scan to try and see what has been causing pain in my abdomen off and on for the last few years. Hopefully it’s nothing serious. I have to drink the contrast stuff and also have an IV so that my insides light up on the scan. Will probably still need an endoscopy too, so this may only be the beginning. Good times…

Session: Decided to do deads, OHP and pull-ups in the garage as they are probably better suited for the garage. Hoping to do squats and bench at the gym in the coming days. I am happy with that strength session. Definitely had more in the tank on deads but stopped while I was ahead. Also happy to get 135 on OHP and 75 on Pull-ups. Skipped accessory due to all the strength work. I got that metcon from Dan Bailey. He was doing cleans and the 100’ walk with a 100 lb “power ball” or something like that. Needless to say, I don’t have one of those so I used my two 40 lb dumbbells. Not too bad. Have a good day!

Nice work Trent! Looked good on IG, everything moved smooth with good speed. The pull up definitely looked tough though, but of course it would be at +75.

Good luck with the Dr. appointment!

Thanks Shane. Yeah, that pull-up was tough alright. The scan went fine. I left the house at 10:55AM and was back in the door at 11:25AM. :astonished: The results were in by 11:40AM. Glad to see that some processes are becoming more efficient! No abnormalities on the scan, so looks like it’s time to make an appointment with the gastro.

Is there some IBS involved, reviewed diet? cut out certain foods? mild allergy/intolerance to certain foods? (milk, eggs can be culprits for many of us…)

Very well could be. I will have to get with the gastro and see what they say. I’ve had stomach problems for years…

20 Seconds Hard (350-400 Watts)
40 Seconds Easy (~150 Watts)

Comments: Good session at the gym. I was a little sluggish. Maybe the effects of all the stuff I drank and injected for that scan yesterday. Still had a great session. That bench is a little higher than the box that I squat to in the garage so it made it easier. It was right at parallel. At first nobody paid me much attention, but once I got up to 225 and beyond people were like, who is this skinny dude in her squatting fairly decent weight? LOL Not my best showing on bench. Need to try something else there. Supersetted some stuff for accessory. I hadn’t heard of Rogers equipment before. Seems solid. First time on an assault bike. Holy crap did that suck. Ha ha…

Have a good day!

Hey that’s great news! Hopefully the other tests come back and it’s something easy to fix.

Holy hell squat man. Nice squats! 275 off a box is damn impressive Trent! Bench looked solid as well. Those assault bikes are awesome. You definitely earn every mile on those.

LOL! Thanks Shane. It’s not as impressive when the box is parallel, but thanks. Ha ha ha… :joy: The bench was weak as hell. Honestly, it was embarrassing to almost squat 300 lbs and then not even bench 225. I need to change up the upper body stuff. Yeah, that assault bike is hard. Definitely not buying that for the garage. :-1:t2: :-1:t2:

Precor Bike: 40:00, 10.25 Miles, 425 Cals

Comments: Accidentally picked a different interval program on the bike this morning. The intervals were about 4 minutes long so I never really got to do high intensity. The HR was steady in the 150’s for most of it. The one I usually do has shorter intervals so I can really hammer out some high intensity, if that makes sense. You win some you lose some I guess. Alright, have a good day!

Still a solid showing on the bike Trent! Way to torch those cals.
