Comments: Ate too much yesterday. Honestly, I probably broke even but don’t count calories burned anymore. I was feeling a little out of it from having blood drawn the day before so I kept eating and felt much better by the end of the day.
Metcon: Not bad. This was Dan Bailey’s metcon of the week. I subbed some things to suit my injuries. The original version would have been harder but this still got the blood flowing. Not used to this cold weather. It’s only in the mid 50’s out here which is insanely cold for this time of year.
I hate it that you can’t run much anymore. There really isn’t anything that compares to scratch that itch. Luckily though we do have alternatives. Good to hear you are enjoying the bike.
Good looking metcon Trent. It is cold down here as well. I think it was 43 degrees here this morning.
Thanks Shane. No kidding about running. I did it my whole life and it really is a bummer to have to stop. Biking (outdoors) is a pretty good second if you can find some safe roads to ride down. There aren’t many of those around where I live now. I could probably map out a loop around my neighborhood that is maybe 2-3 miles and just do that a bunch of times. Maybe I’ll get a bike with my Christmas bonus. Until then I will go to the gym and do it.
Yeah, this northerly wind is really odd for this time of year. This time last year I was out surfing all the time with board shorts on and we were spending all afternoon at the beach in bathing suits.
I hear you on missing running. I miss the ability to play basketball and run for sports more than anything. I can still half ass walk around and play a game of horse and chase down the errant missed shot but other than that my knee lets me know pretty quickly when I am being too ambitious.
You could always find a good used bike, that is what I did and saved a bunch of money. It allowed me to get an upgraded bike with better brakes, wheels, etc., for the price of lower quality new one.
Yeah, Idk what is up with the weather, maybe it will get back to normal next week.
That sucks. I hear you though. I’m in the same boat. The last time I hurt my foot I did it playing football in the front yard with my 3-year old son. AKA Falling down in the yard and letting him “tackle me.” It’s unreal. Playing a game of basketball is a dream at this point.
10-4 on the used bike. That was already my plan. Money is too tight and I’m not planning on competing in an iron man so a used bike should do fine.
Comments: Definitely classifying this as exercise. It usually takes me 1.5 hours to do my yard (which is still at a good pace) and I shaved off a third of that time this morning. I was pretty much jogging behind the mower. It was intense and I’m sure my HR must have been north of 130 the entire time. Done.
“Accessor-itioning”
4 Rounds:
10 Landmine Squats, 115 lb
10 Bench, 115 lb
10 Ring Rows
10 Leg Raises
200-M LISS
Stats: 22:25
Comments: Moved through this pretty quickly. Kept the weight reasonable on squats. Those are slightly lower than I usually go. Combined accessory and conditioning today just to keep moving. Good stuff…
Conditioning: Metcon
Three rounds for time:
20 Sit-ups
20 Snatches, 65 lb
Stats: 10:50
Comments: Good session. The narrow grip OHP was only about 2” further in on each side, but the narrow grip made it into more of a standing overhead tricep press. Sumos were a nice change of pace. Accessory was BBB-ish again today. Finished with a metcon with my son out here watching, as he often does. Done.
Looks like a great workout Trent. Good to hear your son likes hanging out in the garage and watching you workout. I am sure that will pass down good habits.
Thanks Shane. I still have the monitor by the treadmill from when he used to sleep until 8:00AM. Nowadays he wakes up around 7:00AM so he usually catches me near the last 10 minutes or so. He and a couple of his favorite stuffed animals usually sit there and watch the end of the workout. I pray that that sticks with him (both my kids really) and they grow up to be people that take care of themselves. I never saw that growing up and vowed to make that a part of my life for as long as I’m able. I saw my dad go from a sharp looking 35-year old to 50 lbs overweight. He would try to shave off some pounds here and there but never managed to get back to his fighting weight. He was always streaky and his exercise mostly involved playing tennis a few times per week.
Mom always took fairly good care of herself. She walked religiously. I always thought it was silly because all I ever saw were old people walking. I guess it worked though because she is 70 and as healthy as can be.
I think that machine isn’t calibrated or something. That was a pretty easy pace. HR was probably 130 at most for that. I don’t mind some positive bias though. I need all the help I can get.
Comments: Really fun session at the gym this morning. I did the bike first, then had to go back home and take my daughter to school. Went back after that and did a bunch of accessory work. Really fun time. Got after it. Definitely got some looks for supersetting everything. Lol
That was a great workout Trent. Looked like it had a little of everything put in. You are probably going to feel that one tomorrow as there are a couple of exercises I haven’t seen in your log before.
Good pace on that bike as well and a nice cal dump.
Thanks Shane. I haven’t done leg press, pec deck or the LF bicep curl machine in about 20 years. Definitely going to be feeling those. It’s been several years since doing A2G squats as well. It seemed silly to be loading up the barbells on the rack (even though I have that setup in my garage), but that’s what I’m used to. Almost no one in that gym uses the power racks. They tend to stick to the machines for the most part. I love it. LOL. There were five empty racks to choose from. All with brand new barbells and Olympic weights. It’s like Heaven. LOL. I could tell that people were watching me because most of them probably aren’t used to or trained in doing proper squats and barbell exercises. (And of all the people in there, I’m probably one of the last ones you would expect to load up a barbell and start doing squats with decent form) I’m surprised more folks aren’t on the power racks as those exercises have gained a lot of popularity in recent years.
