Go for a Honda or Yamaha inverter. I bought a big Colman and when I needed it the most it ran but didn’t produce electricity. Only had 2 hrs on it at that point. When it did work it sucked down the fuel. I bought a 2200 Honda, it’s more expensive but sips fuel, runs quite, produces clean electricity and it works when you need it to.
I ended up with the Predator 6500 from HF. It seemed to have good reviews and should easily power anything that we need. Now trying to figure out how to keep it dry outside.
Solid workout Trent. That accessory work, wow. Push ups followed by 20 rep deads, rows, and back extensions. Damn, I bet that got the heart rate up. That metcon looked tough as well.
Glad to hear you were able to score a generator. I ended up needing one a couple years ago and found mine at an Ace hardware, last one in stock, and glad to pay full price for it as my power was out due to snow storm. Definitely a different animal than what is headed to the coast right now. Hopefully you won’t end up needing it.
Thanks Shane. That was some good accessory work. I liked the strength work too. Good variations.
Yeah, I was glad to get one too. I stopped at that Harbor Freight a month or two ago and the people there were really nice and helpful. They were again today so I was glad to give them my business. Trying to figure out how to cover this thing up in a rain and wind storm right now (also far enough away from the house that the carbon monoxide isn’t that bad)

Comments: Another good one from Dan Bailey. I subbed this heavily and cut the duration in half as it was supposed to be a partner workout. Done.
Maybe put the generator on a pallet in a tent?
The generator covers I see online look a lot like that but are custom made to fit the generator.
I started following Dan on IG. He is a beast. Nice work put in today!
Thanks Shane. I ended up whipping together a shelter out of about $100 worth of lumber. This was a pretty quick project and took about two hours total from going to get the lumber to building it. I cantilevered a few 10’ 2x4s out from my condenser platform. The predominant wind direction during the storm will be out of the northeast, which hits this outside corner dead on.
I’m not looking for water tight, just to block the wind driven rain for the most part. The other side is open for ventilation. This side faces southwest.
I have more 2x4s and plywood that I can add to that side if needed. I plan to add some stakes to either side to prevent lateral movement. I think I’m good from an uplift standpoint (vertically), at least for this storm.
Since my wife was concerned about carbon monoxide in the house, I sealed the two crawlspace vents that are closest to the generator. The generator is only 10’ from the house so that is a decent request I suppose. Any that makes it up through the soffit into the attic would move out via the ridge vents I hope.
As much as I hope we don’t lose power, I will be the biggest genius around if we do. Most people around here were laughing at us about our preparation. That is partially deserved, but I want to have some kind of SOP in place for a storm like this and hopefully this is accomplishing that. For a bad hurricane we would just leave.
Great job! Looks like it will definitely get the job done. Better than a tent that’s for sure.
Better to be prepared than not and like you said making an SOP for future weather events is a good idea.
Did you see the guy on the news riding the bicycle with a snorkel on in Florida?
Those guys down there are crazy.
Thanks Shane. Ha ha. No, I didn’t see that. I finally flipped on the weather channel last night at nearly 11:00PM and it looks like FL was devastated. My mom said that she slept in her laundry room two nights ago. I’ve been too busy preparing to really see what’s been going on. Bought a chainsaw this morning too. ![]()
Sending well wishes and prayers y’all’s way. Hoping you won’t need them. Ian needs to stay out at sea.
Thanks buddy. We actually ended up pretty fair compared to a lot of the state. I even went to the office for most of the day today. For some reason, most of the rain shifted to the north and west side of the storm, which is pretty strange. So the inland part of the state got it a little worse. We still have wind gusting to around 50 mph. It was gusting to 70 earlier. Luckily, we never lost power. Myrtle Beach got it really bad, and with almost no notice. Even last night they were saying it would hit Charleston. These weather forecasters have come up with some really complicated ways to still get it wrong. That’s why I don’t regret my decision to get the generator and stuff we needed to be ready. All you really need to know is that it “might” come your way. Go ahead and get ready. Better to be prepared. I hate it for the folks in FL and SC. It is just hard to see that kind of devastation.

Comments: Took the last few days of last week off to prepare for the storm so my muscles are fresh, but my conditioning is noticeably lacking. I can say that we were ready to go for the storm. Luckily, we never lost power and only had one tree come down on our fence. I was able to push it over into the woods and can live with the small dent in the top rail.
Session: My daughter was actually ready on time for school this morning, so I skipped my last two strength sets. Didn’t want to come back cold and try those sets so I just skipped them. On the way back from dropping her at school I looked over at the gym and all 5 squat racks were open. Might have to start going there on squat day. Came back and did accessory and conditioning. Done.
Great to hear you guys dodged the most of the storm. 50 to 70 MPH wind gusts will get your attention though. I agree with you with on being prepared. I saw your post on IG, it looks like you were able to get out and enjoy the weekend. We had some amazing weather down here.
Nice job today. Good idea to skip those sets and not hit them cold. 5 open squat racks? Damn that sounds amazing man. Our new 2 squat racks at our gym are always damn full. LoL
Thanks man. Yeah, no kidding. We moved our daughter into our son’s room (with him) because there is a tree line about 30 feet from her room and the wind was howling in that direction. Overall, cleanup took about two hours, mostly blowing leaves. The wife and kids picked up the branches and threw them over the fence into the woods. Ha ha… (We don’t have lawn waste pickup here) We still got out and had a fun time on Saturday. Much needed.
Thanks on the session. I think the new gym has 5 squat racks. The outside wall closest to the road is line with them and I was ecstatic to look in and see them all empty at 7:30AM this morning. Definitely need to get ion there.

Comments: Good one this morning. I did strength at home and then, after I dropped my daughter off, went to the gym to finish up with some accessory work and a metcon. Strength was good. Those deficit deads had my lower back screaming (in a sort of good way…). The temp DB OHP was also a good one. Basically, just slowed down the negative. Finished off each set with some wide-grip deads. Posted a video on IG of the fifth set.
Then, at the gym, I supersetted a few things for accessory. There are so many machines in there that I think I need to get someone to walk me around and show me how to use them. Gym machines have come a long way in 20 years… It looks like they are working on the upstairs “metcon area”. Hopefully they aren’t doing away with it. Instead, I did some intervals on the rower and the bike for my metcon. Still definitely got the blood flowing. Cooled down with some LISS.
First doctor appointment in probably 4 years today. I guess I’ll start with the abdominal pain that his been on and off for the last two years. Then we can work toward other issues…
Someone had Wheaties for breakfast
That one had it all Trent. Heck of a workout man!
Good luck with Dr appointment today.

Comments: Was going to do more of a mobility/stretching day but the kids are out of school so I went and knocked out my long cardio session for the week. Shane, you are a beast man. You usually knock out 20 miles in an hour on the bike. Maybe I’ll be a little speck in your rearview mirror one of these days… I was representing the crazy cardio club though as I was cleaning up puddles of sweat all over the place afterwards. ![]()
Nice workout Trent. I would be nothing but a speck of dust if we went for a run so I guess we can call it even. LoL.
LoL at the crazy cardio club. I have never got off my peloton dry. My shirt is always drenched.
It is what is great about the stationary bikes, you can get some good work in and it is pretty low impact on the joints. ![]()
Thanks Shane. You’d be surprised. I’m probably down to running once or twice per month now. I miss it dearly but it is terrible on your joints… I loved riding the bike for 45 minutes today and having no joint pain afterwards.
Yep, I haven’t seen many people stand up to pedal hard (at high resistance) on a stationary bike in the gym, but I sure as hell did today. The variable route was pretty good and I had to stand up at certain points or I wouldn’t have been able to pedal much at all. Very good exercise.
