TM79's Training Journal

Yeah not sure. I definitely wouldn’t be confused for a young guy anymore. They don’t even card me for beer anymore. :weary:

That happens to me maybe once per year and I’m like, “yeah, it’s probably that guy’s first day…”

Many moons ago in Somalia they would ship us bottled water. Every time I’d drink a few bottles I’d feel flushed (hard to do get an more flush in full gear and 100f + weather.) In weather con BLACK and performing hard duty we were suppose to be drinking 2 quarts an hour (4 16 oz bottles) Finally read the bottle and it had a huge amount of sodium in each bottle. Quit drinking it and switched over to boiling water in an old “piss pot” helmet liner.

Wow, that’s hardcore. I don’t blame you for boiling it. All that sodium can weigh you down a lot. Smart decision.

Yesterday’s Cals: 2900

Conditioning: Metcon
20-Minute AMRAP wearing a 20 lb Vest:
10 Pull-ups
20 Push-ups
30 Squats

Stats: 7 Rounds +10 Pull-ups

Comments: Was up for about 2 hours last night with terrible stomach pain. I think I have some ulcers in my intestines… Originally, I had wanted to do Cindy (with or without the vest) but decided because of the stomach problems that I would likely end up puking. Came up with this variation instead. Still hard but plenty of breaks built in because of the higher reps.

Sorry to hear your stomach continues to give you issues. :weary:

Great job pushing through it and knocking that out!

Thanks Shane. Yeah, I don’t know what’s going on with it. This has been going on since 9/4/22, so for 12 days. Whenever I eat or drink just about anything (except beer ironically) my stomach hurts afterwards. Might need to see the doctor for this as it doesn’t seem to be going away.

Ended up surfing for an hour in Surf City yesterday. It was actually a good session for how it looked. Pretty drifty with lots of current. The waves were maybe stomach high at best. Caught a few decent rides though with nobody else in the water. There were tons of fish jumping all over the place.

Did almost 3 hours of yardio this morning. Finally trimmed the big ass hedges by the drainage ditch. I leaned an extension ladder against them to reach the top and at one point the bush collapsed and I was laying face down on the ladder in the middle of the bush, still holding the hedge trimmers. Clark Griswold would have been proud… :joy: I ended up down in the ditch plowing all the vines and stuff down as they are really taking over the trees. I stopped after about 20 feet as I was chopping poison ivy and Virginia creeper and didn’t want to get lit up. Might pay someone to come clear the rest of that crap. That took about an hour. Mowed and trimmed after that, which was another hour and half.

After all that (basically working a half day today), I went and joined the new gym at the front of our neighborhood. I recognized a few of the guys training in there from the old Gold’s Gym that I trained at in college (20 years ago). As it turns out, the guy who owns this gym owned that Gold’s Gym way back in the day. He used to compete in the Mr. Olympia competitions. Anyway, everything in there is brand new. They have about half a dozen squat racks, with every barbell under the sun. In addition to the Life Fitness and Hammer Strength machines, they have others that I have never heard and don’t have a clue how to use. Upstairs they have a metcon area with rings, sleds, KB’s and all kinds of stuff. The membership is $70 annual fee and $35/month (which my company will pay). I get 24-hour access with that as well. I’m tempted to just drop my daughter off in the morning and go workout afterwards. Then shower and head to the office around 9:00AM. Or maybe start in the garage and swing by there afterwards to finish up. Really cool to have that so close to the house.

I would say seeing a doc would be a good idea. Hopefully it is an easy fix like changing something in your diet.

Damn, 3 hours of yardio with poison ivy involved, that sounds like a hell of a workout. Definitely worth paying someone to finish that ivy up! It is crazy how some of those tree guys are not allergic to that stuff at all. I have seen them grab it bare handed and never bat an eye.

New gym sounds sweet. Even better that your work will pay for it. Heck yeah man. I love LF and HS machines. Especially the converging HS stuff for chest and back. That is about what I am now paying being back at my old gym. Sounds like a no brainer.

Envious, I would love to surf.

Yeah, I have an appointment already set up in two weeks. Just trying to figure out if I want to go to an Urgent Care sooner than that. Coffee and spicy food seems to hurt it more than anything. It feels just like a mild stomach virus that never goes away…

I’m not allergic to Virginia creeper, and that stuff is everywhere here. Poison Ivy is a different story. I can brush up against it lightly but if I start tearing it up I’m screwed.

Yeah, I’m pumped about the gym. Especially the fact that some of the old school crowd from 20 years ago is in there. It is a year membership though, which is going to suck if I end up wanting to quit. He did say they are cool with working with you if you are injured, moving, etc. Of course they say that…

That was my main reason for moving my family back to the coast. It’s my favorite thing in the world. Just lived inland for 10 years and it was terrible…

Comments: My foot is screwed up again. It seems more manageable at this point, but I need to be careful not to hurt it anymore. I am taking Colchicine today, per the doctor’s recommendation. Evidently it might mess up my stomach, so if it starts doing that I am going to switch over to Prednisone, which I know will work. It sucks because I was planning to go to the gym and lift this week, but don’t want to be in there limping around so I’ll just lift in the garage…

Session: Wasn’t going to do squats at all, but front squats are pretty light and I kept the weight on my heels. No pain on those. Should have skipped rows as they don’t work well for me now. The last two sets were trash. Accessory was solid. Quick conditioning at the end. I will probably skip deads tomorrow. Have a good day!

Some solid work put in last week Trent. I see you were enjoying the new gym until you foot started to bother you again. Heck I would still go to the gym, limp around and look like a bad ass. They probably have some good leg alternatives that would be easier on your foot.

Feel better man. Injuries are so frustrating!

Thanks Shane. I usually try to project greatness wherever I go. Well, as great as a middle-aged average looking dude can project. :joy: Good point about the leg alternatives. They had a hex bar in there that it looked like you can walk right into?!?!? :exploding_head: Still need to study that some more. (Sorry, here is a guy who hasn’t worked out in a gym in almost 20 years who is catching up on the latest technology)

Comments: Good strength session. Accessory was also solid. That metcon is a crossfit classic. I did the women’s weight as there is no way I would attempt that with 135. Maybe if my back was only 20 years old…

I’m on the hunt for an electric generator today. Lowes is sold out so I am going to try Harbor Freight on the way to Myrtle.
