Nice run Trent. Good luck with the new gym search. Running in the dark and cold doesn’t sound like a lot of fun. So worth the search for sure.

Comments: Ended up taking yesterday off so I am behind the 8 ball this week. I’ve had a stomach bug for the last two days also so that might be tough this morning.
Session: Those 12-rep sets hit hard when you’ve been doing low reps for a while. Got through them. Kept it nice and light on squats. Bench was about right. Almost puked during accessory. Those were some good sets. Conditioning was also solid. Have a good day!
Surfing: Did this on my lunch break today. I haven’t surfed in several weeks so it felt good to get out there. The report said there were lots of jelly fish in the water so I tried to just lay on my board between sets and paddle with not much more than my hands. Under normal circumstances that would have been a crummy session but since I hadn’t been out in a while it was marked up a few points.
Nice work Trent. Especially after coming off a stomach bug. 100 pound goblet squats are impressive!
Good to see you get a surf session in. LoL at your jelly fish work around. Definitely have to love to surf to get out and play with those. ![]()
Ha ha, thanks Shane. I was trying to just get a quick ride and then hop back over the lip, landing gingerly on my board. That never happened so I ate it instead. Luckily I never landed on one of those bastards… Evidently, there were 200 reports of jelly fish stings this weekend at Wrightsville Beach. That is too may for my comfort level.

Comments: 12-rep sets of deads… Yep… Accessory was good. The metcon was too easy. I subbed 25 push-ups and squats for 25 burpees but clearly there was a difference in the level of exertion. If I had just done 100 burpees I would be laying in a pool of vomit right now. It’s funny to say it but I miss doing burpees. They just keep you humble. I usually avoid them now because of my foot injuries.
12 rep dead lifts are definitely man makers.
I can say I don’t miss burpees. We were never friends. LoL.
They are effective though!

Comments: I lost my Apple Watch while surfing in Emerald Isle yesterday. It looks like that $8.00 band I bought to save money ended up costing me in the end… Luckily, I had thrown my old $10.00 Casio in my backpack 2 years ago just in case I ever lost my Apple Watch so I threw it on in the parking lot and have been “analog” ever since. I had bought that last one refurbished on Ebay for $200 so it didn’t sting as much to lose that one as it would have to have lost a brand new one. It is pretty useful for counting burned calories and I love the ability to change songs/playlists on Spotify and quickly text people back, but I don’t know if I want to buy another one yet. Might just think about it for a while.
Metcon: Made this up on the fly. Was hoping to get 10 rounds but almost got 9. I do miss the watch for telling me my average heart rate during a metcon or strength session. That is a great indicator of overall exertion. I would estimate this was probably about 225 cals, 130 BPM. Should have made it more difficult.
1.5 Hours of Yardio coming up…
Nice metcon. Sorry to hear about the apple watch. I hear the new watch has even more stuff on it that I probably wouldn’t use. LoL. Honestly though, the coolest thing about the apple watch is the find my phone feature. I use that damn near daily.
Have fun with the yardio. ![]()
Thanks Shane. Yeah, it is an interesting invention, that’s for sure. I love it for counting burned calories and a few other functions but, like you said, I don’t use 95% of the functions it has. Plus I don’t really like something emitting RF’s strapped to my body all the time. Dunno… Might get another one but might just stay analog. I have a lot better handle on burned calories after owning that thing. That’s for sure. If you are OK with just winging it then all you have to do is track intake calories and try to exercise a lot.
It’s funny, I had never used the find my phone app until I lost my watch. I’m one of those crazy people with insane processes in place where my phone is either:
-In the same spot on the kitchen counter.
-On my nightstand.
-In my right pocket (upside down
).
-Sitting on my car console.
-In my arm strap when running/mowing.
-Sitting on my desk at the office.
-In it’s holster on my fall harness (when hanging off a building).
It is never in any place other than one of those. If it ever is in another place, I get really uneasy and can’t stop thinking about it until it returns to one of those places.
(I’m also one of the few people who, if we are working on a project together in the garage, can tell you exactly where you set that screw driver down 45 minutes ago. It’s a blessing and a curse…
)
Surfing: Holiday Inn.
~1:00:00
Comments: This is a rest week so I’m just doing some conditioning here and there. I haven’t surfed at the Holiday Inn in a long time and had a really fun time out there on the longboard. There was a guy out down the way who, every time a wave closed out on him or he didn’t make a wave, he would start screaming curse words and bashing the water with his fists. I thought it was pretty funny to be getting that pissed about being out surfing on a beautiful morning. Try moving inland for 10 years and you will never get that pissed again about surfing.
Enjoy the week off Trent. Hard to believe that guy getting that mad about surfing. It happens though, people can take their hobbies really serious.
I hear you on the phone. My biggest issue is my son likes to take my phone to take pictures of his Pokémon cards. Not sure why, but it’s a thing with him. LoL.
Thanks Shane. Yeah, I’ve gotten frustrated out there plenty of times but never really shouted curse words. That guy is on another level. Ha ha… I just had to enable face ID on my phone as my daughter was starting to take our phones and search for skanky garbage music on Youtube. ![]()

15-Minutes Mobility/Stretching
Comments: Stomach issues have lasted over a week now. My wife has some test strips that she used to test our tap water when we moved in. For curiosity, we tested the Deer Park bottled water that I have been drinking for a long time. It turns out that it is highly acidic, at least compared to “acceptable ranges.” So, I have switched bottled water for the time being, until we find a more permanent solution. Ironically, our tap water appears to be better than most of the bottled water that we tested.
Just did some LISS and mobility this morning. The first mobility video was so worthless that I switched to another. Neither were great. You win some you lose some…
Sorry to hear about the stomach issues. Don’t know why but they moved my journal over to the Training logs forum? So that is where my journal is. I imagine your journal will probably end up there as well.
Thanks man. Not sure what is causing the stomach stuff… Weird about your journal. If anyone deserves to be in bigger stronger leaner it’s you. Not me. ![]()
Yeah, IDK why he singled out my journal but it was the CEO of T Nation that moved it. IDK, maybe I will start a new one. Haha.
Weird, maybe he mistook you for a younger guy.
A few of the other ones that I recognize are over there too so it isn’t just you.
