TM79's Training Journal

On 11/1/24 I woke up with terrible pain in my tail bone. I believe it may have been aggravated by doing heavy deadlifts last week and then exacerbated by slouching in a friend’s golf cart riding around for a few hours on Halloween night. We went up to Raleigh this weekend to turn over our rental house and I was crawling around on the floor, doing lots of small maintenance projects, which made it worse. Saturday morning, I could barely walk or bend over. I loaded up on Advil and it had gotten a little better by Saturday evening. Yesterday it was still hurting but has been manageable ever since. I now have considerable soreness in what I believe is the sciatic nerve. Pain deep in my left glute that runs down the side of my leg. I have an appointment with the Ortho tomorrow so hopefully I will find something out.

Comments: I’m still having some pain in my tail bone and sciatic nerve so I took it easy on this one. I’m glad this is a deload week because it would have become one regardless… Did an easy Peloton ride to start things off. (I did some quick research and it looks like a stationary bike, especially leaving forward, is fairly safe for tail bone/sciatic pain.) Still, I took it nice and easy. Then went to the gym and did mostly upper body work. I was talking to a buddy at the gym and he sent me a youtube video of some stretching that I might try today that will hopefully help. I have an appointment with the Ortho tomorrow afternoon, so hopefully they will shed some light on this.

My wife was very upset that I was training this morning. I tried to explain my theory to her. If at all possible, always keep moving. Work around the injury and do what you can. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if I didn’t workout whenever something was hurting, I would be 70 pounds overweight and completely out of shape…

Sorry to hear about the tailbone and sciatic nerve Trent. I agree on on keeping moving. Motion is lotion. I have also incorporated a lot more stretching into my daily workouts. Seems to have helped a lot.

Hopefully the ortho gives you some good news.

Comments: Trying to work around the sciatic pain. I started on the Peloton but it wouldn’t connect to the wifi for some reason. So I switched to the Airdyne. Will have to troubleshoot the Peloton. Nothing crazy on these metcons. Just getting the blood flowing.

Comments: In past elections I stayed up most of the night to see who won, and usually drank WAY too much. Last night I went to bed at 9:30PM and woke up at 3:00AM, got my phone out and started checking the results. I ended up tossing and turning after that and more or less ended up watching the election results on my phone from about 4:00AM – 5:30AM when I got up. I was not well rested for this session but probably got more sleep than I would have if I had stayed up…

Session: My tail bone/glute pain is about 50% better today so I pushed it a little harder. Had a pretty respectable Peloton ride and then hit the gym for a deload session. Nothing terribly heavy, but plenty of work. I was very happy to have almost no pain doing Hip Adduction/Abduction and Leg Curls. Just picked up my prescription of Prednisone and might just save it for the next time my foot flares up. LOL

I told my wife I was going to wait until I woke up to check results. I snuck a peek at Megyn Kelly’s page and ended up bouncing between results on the different networks/pages. I think I finally turned everything off at 2:00 AM, then woke up at 5:00 AM and started over. Some election Jill Stein will pull it out.

Nice couple of days of work Trent. Good to hear that you are starting to feel better.

I also woke up around 3 AM to check on the results. They had pretty much called it at that point.

Thanks gents. Sounds like we had similar sleep schedules. :joy: When I woke up a little before 3:00AM only Fox had called it for Trump. Everyone else had him at 266 electoral votes. I was thinking, “Of course, they are going to drag this out…” I don’t the other networks/media outlets called it until after 5:00AM.

Are you trying to write down all those random dad thoughts in your head? Hate those brain induced 3am wakeups fella.

Nah, this is mainly work related. Just too much to think about and not enough time to get it all done…

Thanks gents. On my way to the office after that I decided to stop in and do a walkway inspection at a town home community. I walked all 13 buildings (3 stories each) and finished before lunch. It ended up being 5 miles of walking and 25 flights of steps. Definitely tired now. LOL

Damn, that is a lot of walking.
