Considering who he was and his body of work, yes. He’s signing documents with his right hand and pressing red buttons with his left.
Didn’t say it would be magically resolved, simply stated a real, sincere acknowledgement by a recognized power supported by the people of Israel’s right to exist and denounce violence against it is the necessary first step. Nothing else can happen until that does. And it won’t happen.
Oslo was widely denounced as a disaster from the get-go.
Whether or not Israel will accept a 2 state solution now is probably unlikely. They seem happy to simply slowly displace the Palestinians and then annex the territory.
The Jews and service in the US military is not a “canard.”
Not everything is a “canard” or a “conspiracy” or a “hate crime.”
It is just a fact.
Jews are significantly under represented in the US military.
No doubt in light of this the response will be they are too superior and successful to be members.
It is most strange that Jewish Americans permanently bang the Israeli drum in support of permanent ME wars, yet feel little need to actually sign up themselves.
less than 10,000 Normans settled in a country of 2m.
I presume the Adam Smith reference was some kind of joke, I don’t get it tbh. I know he was Scottish. Again, I’m not even English.
Jews
I have posted previously that in some areas of analysis Jews do indeed have high IQs.
I have also posted, and agree, that Jews “take care of their own.” I made this very point with regard to immigration in the west, to which my account was subsequently reported for “hate crime.” It is my contention that such ethnocentrism is a very significant factor in the problems Jews find in other countries over time, rather than merely “they are better than everyone.”
I strongly dispute that 100+ expulsions can be reduced to “they are just superior.” It is a very weak analysis. But I don’t see the benefit to me of expounding on it really, as I will provide reams of evidence that will simply be dismissed as “anti Semitic.”
By whom? There was some slight chance of progress until Rabin was killed by an Israeli right wing extremist and Arafat vacillated in key moments.
How does that real, sincere, acknowledgment work? Serious question. What are they supposed to do? Signing a written proclamation by their leader is obviously not enough.
It’s just fake news. Until the Gulf War, Jewish people in the USA were over-represented in the US military. Such was the case in every war from the Revolutionary War forward. This is actually discussed by Mark Twain at the end of the article I posted above.
Not sure what happened recently. I suspect the Jews that were inclined to be in the military in the USA (such as my father who served in both Korea and Vietnam) moved to Israel.
Posting literal factual evidence is now “fake news.”
Are you able to provide any statistical evidence that between 1776 - 1990, Jews were in fact “over represented” in the US military?
It seems only fair that when shown evidence of a supposed “canard” which is then dismissed as “fake news” that you actually provide statistics. You’ve claimed a period of 200+ years, so it shouldn’t be difficult.
A significant number of Jewish soldiers don’t list a preference under religion. Some of them were even killed in Afghanistan and Iraq and no one knew they were Jewish until after they were dead.
Because if 100+ societies across the globe spanning millennia come to almost identical conclusions about one group, the logical assumption to make would be the one group is the problem, rather than the entire globe.
WW1 Germany - a poster made a claim about a “canard” relating to America. I then responded refuting this claim. Neither the poster nor myself were talking about Germany. This is just more tangential nonsense.
Slavery - again, tangential. But 2 points:
“those who did the enslaving” were fellow blacks.
Furthermore, please give this whole “black slavery” stuff a rest. Slavery has existed forever across all races. We are talking about one group (Jews) and you are equating it to something tangential and applicable to all races. Weak.
Just type in “historical Jewish participation rate us military”. It’s not hard.
In fairness to you, though, it’s an old favorite among Jew-haters. It actually started in WWI in Germany, when they started a “Jewish census” in the German military since they had this belief. Turns out, Jews were grossly over-represented in the German military (including, ironically, Hitler’s LT). You can google that, too.
But, going back to the USA, starting with the Revolutionary War, it was ~5% of the total Jewish population that served (so counting women, kids, and old people). This was something like double the gentile rate.
Both sides of the Civil War, you get the same figures, from the US War Department. This is discussed at the end of Mark Twain’s article, linked above. (As are historical enlistment, then-to-date, which was roughly 1895.)
WWI, you get a slight over-representation, but a dramatic over representation in combat arms positions. About 3,500 Jews were killed in action or died of wounds. Jews, who made up three percent of the United States population at the time, contributed five percent to the entire death roll of the U.S.
WWII, Jews enlisted at 2X the rate of gentiles. I’m sure you’ll call that bad, since we were picking on your buddy.
Etc.
Not sure of why there has been a drop off of late. I still think you’ve had your best Jews make aliyah to Israel. But then again, I’m Israeli and biased and not particularly fond of secular Jewish people in the USA (or liberals, in general). Some claim that lots of Jewish enlistees mark “no preference”, which is probably true, given than most Jewish people in the US are ethnically Jewish and not religious. But I have no idea of the accurate stats.
I’ve heard that a fair amount. I don’t know if that is anecdotal or statistically significant.
I would probably not want to list “Jewish” on my dog tag if I was serving in the US military in the ME, so it makes some sense. I would still do it, mind you. But I would have hesitated.
