I am South African - and live in South Africa. I must tell you of an interesting incident in the late 80s … at the height of civil unrest and opposition to the previous government. (Dont get me wrong … I loathed the former regime - but the point of my anecdote is so relevant).
My brother is an attorney. He (as an well known anti-apartheid activist)represented, amongst other clients, a major international TV network. He got a call late one afternoon because a TV news crew had been arrested.
There had been an incident downtown Johannesburg where a mob (actually a few people but the cameras made it look a lot larger) were throwing bricks into shop windows. The news guys were filming it all as a backdrop to a breathless on-the-spot reporter. You can picture the scene … the excitement … the danger …
Why were they arrested?
Maybe it was an enormous coincidence, but the TV news crew arrived and set up their cameras about 30 minutes BEFORE the incident. The reporter buzzed about choosing the perfect angles … The mob then arrived in a few minibusses and performed on cue.
Trust the media? Say no more …

It was totally disgusting - treating that child’s body like a prop and affording it neither dignity nor respect. In fact, it was totally against the Muslim religion. In Muslim tradition bodies are treated respectfully and buried immediately.

Balls, if the Israelis wanted to be like your pals in hezbollah, they could kill several hundred thousand today. The Israelis are doing their reasonable best to avoid casualties – 600 dead in the middle of a modern urban war is tiny. Compare this to Stalingrad, or Grozny, where the gloves came off with even less capable forces than the IDF. If the Israelis were really trying to kill civilians like their opponents, we would be counting hundreds left alive instead of hundreds dead.
Hezbollah, on the other hand, is trying to kill as many civilians as it can by launching rockets filled with ball bearings into civilian areas. If they weren’t such morons there would be thousands of Israeli dead. Thank goodness for arab education, ingenuity, technological capability, and fighting prowess.
