Lol luckily I have some olive oil. Should’ve gotten more of that. I wasn’t aware canola oil was crap. I just googled best oil to use with steak and it said canola.

Yes I will be cooking in my dorm.
Those ribeyes shouldn’t need oil. But butter works well enough
I would not sear fatty steak with any added fat.
For leaner steaks, use oil, not butter. Butter has a higher water content, which prevents a nice crust. Invest in a good cast iron pan. Maybe disable the smoke alarm while you’re at it
But Deep Water isn’t about getting a nice crust…
I don’t think Jon said anything against a properly seared steak
Also, you could always finish with butter
OK Anna.
Just as an aside - canola oil is one of the healthiest oils. Least saturated fat of all vegetable oils and a high smoke point for high heat cooking. I cook all my steaks with a tiny amount of canola oil - just enough to coat the bottom. It’d likely be healthier and tastier to cook a steak in canola oil.
Of course - I’d wager that grass fed butter would do you better than cheap canola oil, but if we’re talking buying food in bulk I personally think canola’s alright. I remember Deep Water talking more about olive oil and flax seed oil though, so maybe Jon wouldn’t approve.
Yeah, it’s the angle I am coming from. He’s really big into avocado oil as well.

Yesterday I had my first student organization meeting. Bruh no one showed up except me, the vice president, and secretary. I’m not too upset tho. We are putting in heavy action to advertise the org more. I am going to be speaking to a very important fellow about an idea I came up with that could benefit him and add more value to my org. That meeting will take place Tuesday morning. I got to know the secretary even more so that was cool.
Oh who I am kidding. What is wrong with these students. Not even a little interest? Was it because it was held on Friday? What do these students want?
Do they have classes at the time I held the meeting?
I don’t understand. This org will literally benefit them. Why aren’t they taking advantage?
There are so many cool events with outside parties in the industry that are willing to spend their time. I’d hate if they showed up and no one other than my executive board is there for it.
Now I see why the graduation rate is so low.
Had to vent.
What time was the meeting? What other orgs have meetings/social events at the same time?
Regardless, Friday’s are going to be a tough sell unless your org is extremely popular Or prestigious (ie some of the exclusive business clubs or anime club)
Most of them want to make friends, have fun, and get free food
They DON’T want to have to think about serious professional stuff at the end of a long week when they could be hanging out with friends, watching a movie, finishing homework due at midnight or going out to party.
Time discounting
It was your first meeting. There’s no established presence or precedent.
Humans are followers by nature. They don’t like doing new things: they want to follow established, well trodden paths. When something is new, few will adopt it. Once it’s been rolling for a while, they’ll jump in. Doesn’t matter how good or bad of an idea it is.
It was on a Friday at 4pm
Yeah… chances are classes are not done. At my school, Friday 4-6 is also prime time for office hours since assignments tend to be due Friday midnight
If possible, shift it to mon-Thursday between 6-8pm and provide food
I doubt anyone is going to office hours at my school (given the attitude I’ve experienced in most of my classes so far) but I will change the date and time.
@tlgains I have a little trick that I’ve come up with for fatty and lean cut cooking.
This only works if you will be cooking multiple things at one time (like a ribeye and then lean ground). Start with the fattiest cut you have (possibly ribeye, maybe those burgers) cook normally in the cast pan. With the ribeyes, I sometimes finish with butter but more recently have not. By the end of the cook of the Ribeyes, the bottom of the pan will be coated in fat/melted butter and any seasoning left behind. THEN cook your lean cuts immediately after you pull the fatty ones to let them rest. Sometimes it’s necessary to soak up a little bit of the melted fat out of the pan so it doesn’t get out of control.
I’ll normally cook a couple ribeye, pull them out of the cast, dump in 93/7 ground and let it soak up the fat/butter and seasoning from the ribeye.
It defeats the purpose of buying lean ground, and if I were worried about how much fat I’m taking in, I wouldn’t recommend doing this but it saves a little bit of cleaning and cooking time.
Edit: sorry pwn, not sure why it replied to you and not Tim
You never need to apologize to me if you’re talking about cooking steak, haha.
Human # idk I lost count
Met a girl named Anu today. Just went up to her and asked if class was canceled because the room for our first class was occupied by some random teacher. Blah blah blah talked about how class was. I asked her about the Metallica shirt she was wearing. She asked if I listened to metal. She didn’t know what Metallica is (I kinda do cause enter sandman was always played in the weight room during high school). I asked what her name was then I told her mine then shook her hand.
Another random girl
Here I am sitting at some random table trying to create a flyer for a construction management career fair. Nice girl comes over and asks if she can sit at the table because some people are weary of the whole COVID situation. Eventually some nerdy looking fellow try’s to sit next to the seat she was going to sit at. Lmao she ended up just moving to a coach away from the table. She was nice to the guy but sheesh the guy was really struggling to get his words out. It was really bad. I can understand the social anxiety but man that was horrible. Well I got up to go to my first class. Random nice girl just said have a nice day to me and I said you too. Yk it probably would’ve made more since to type this paragraph before the first one.
Edit: when back to the same table after my first class cause I got an email saying I had to edit the career fair date on the flyer. Girl was still there and she joked about how she stole my chair. I said “Oh darn u took my seat how could u.” She said I didn’t know u were cominf back. I said I usually just chill here before class. She said she usually sees me here (Lol I only hung out at this spot twice). I finished editing my flyer. I got up and left. She said have a nice day again. I asked for her name. It was Nez or Nes? Idk something like that. Then I told her my name, shook her hand, then walked away.
@boilerman Sir I will read what you typed shortly. I am currently in class. I should really be paying attention lol.
