The strategy you’re discussing is pretty time proven. Diet, diet break, diet. Trying to stay in a sustained deficit for too long can be more damage than it’s worth.

Those guys that stay in a deficit for 20 weeks are something else. Maybe it’s a super slow process or something?

Also some people will just slash their calories from the beginning and then stay on that for like 6 months instead of lowering them gradually.

Funny enough they look good after doing so.

It has to be, over that long of a duration. If you were to be in a harsh deficit for that long, you’d burn out. I know Robert Sikes has done a 30 week prep, but he has strategic refeeds included in there for those reasons.

There is no way they’re doing this without chemical assistance. Which is something to keep in mind.

I think that’s mentally unsustainable for me personally.

Biologically as well. The body adapts, and when you slash rapidly at the start, it eventually adapts to that…and now what? But when you slowly nudge it along, it’s far more compliant.

Well I decided to end it, so back to maintenance.

I weigh 191 lbs, just a bit away from being in the 180s.

I’ll bump calories up, maintain, and then start the next one around July or so. That’ll be exciting. I will happily accept if I am naturally meant to be a 180, 170 lb guy.
