Titan Tim Tackling his Twenties

Do you have a family history of hypertension?

Actually yes, my mother has had some blood pressure issues. Also, some heart issues on my mothers side as well. Unfortunately my grandparents on my mother’s side passed away from heart related issues. I never really got to meet them.

I can’t avoid the pun because it’s too good, but take my advice “with a grain of salt”. I have zero hypertension issues and, in fact, ran into the opposite problem, which is why I blacked out in training. Salt for those without hypertension is a non-issue, but for those afflicted it can be something to look into.

:joy: Lol, well blacking out doesn’t sound fun at all. In fact that’s dangerous, I’ll take my chances with salt.

My legs hurt so much, it’s like a dull numb like pain.

I really love those nights where you fall asleep and then wake up naturally at the right time. I fell asleep sometime last night and woke up at 5:38 am today which is awesome.

Since I was obliterating these sets, I was hoping I could get 100 reps in 8 sets instead of 9, even though I’m supposed to get 100 reps in 9 sets for this week.

Awesome stuff Tim- those squats looked smooth. Definitely seemed as though you had more in the tank. You’re doing amazing on this second run of deepwater!

I second salting your food a bit more. I started adding more towards the end of summer after asking about it in my log. Also over the summer I started using liquid IV. It’s a powder you put in a bottle of water. I use it on lifting days, so maybe 3-4 times a week if I have it. I think it works pretty well and I haven’t been nearly as lightheaded as I was since I started using it. Another option is Gatorade zero. I’ll drink it every once and a while, normally after a long work day when I know I didn’t drink enough water.

Pickle juice also works. That’s my favorite.

Thanks a ton @boilerman, I just need to get used to doing high rep squats. Squats will always be the most intimidating movement for me, I just gotta push past that mental barrier for high reps (@T3hPwnisher and @throwawayfitness do that shit so casually lol). What’s the best flavor for liquid IV in your opinion?

It’s bench for me, haha. But yeah man the brain is a crazy thing. No matter what, you’re crushing it dude.

I use the lemon lime flavor but have tried a couple of the others. They’re pretty salty but the lemon lime is a bit more tolerable in my opinion

What do you figure is holding you back?

I’m thinking too much about how my legs feel and it makes me start to doubt myself. Basically, I don’t want to dunk the weight. In fact I have never dunked a squat in years.

You need to dump the bar again sometime so you can get over that. You are definitely holding back if you are worried about that.

Definitely something I should do. I’ll look on YouTube for some videos on how to bail out of a low bar squat. It’s such an awkward position to bail from.

You are overthinking it dude. I have only ever failed low bar squats. Your body finds a way.

Did you set the safeties too low in that video?

Nope. You can hear them catch the bar. It’s QUITE loud, haha

Random thoughts: I tend to worry about a lot of things, which may seem bad in certain situations but, ironically it ends up being my greatest strength. Now clearly I am on the right path as far as my career field is concerned. Don’t get me wrong, I’m super confident I will have a career after I graduate whether it be a field engineer, project engineer, or whatever.

What is frightening is that I still have to do stuff in order to keep my career. That kind of “stuff” includes learning as much as I can to become better in my career. I thought about my skills and have noticed that I am not that great at reading construction prints.

So this morning I figured I might as well buy the textbook I am using in one of my classes. The textbook has some great construction related information as well. It also comes with like 50 or so construction prints that you use to answer some questions in the book. What also fuels this decision is that during Thanksgiving break I asked my dad how he improved his skills for his career. He said he read a lot of books and those books he read has the thickness of 1.5 - 2 holy bibles.

On the other note I’m gonna take a crap, head to the school fitness center and then crush these power cleans for DW.

One thing I’ve noticed in my field (and is probably applicable everywhere) is that there are people who want to get better and people who are ok with where they are. Being someone that actively tries to be better won’t go unnoticed.

Also, it takes time to let everything sink in and to unscramble the huge mess of information you’re taking in. The more you’re around it, reading about it, working through problems, the more it’ll make sense. It’s rare that people start something new and are immediately competent. Some think there is a 10,000 hour rule, that you will not be truly competent until about 9 years of practice. Just take your time, try not to get overwhelmed and learn a little bit every day. You’ll get there man, it just takes practice.

The design of this bench is very odd. Obviously I still use it but I feel like my bench form gets a bit weird from using this.
