Tire Flipping

I would like to start using tire flipping for some GPP. Anybody have any suggestions on what size tire to use, weight, height, etc (approximately). Thanks for the info.

never tire flipped before but also wanted to try, i am curious on what day of your training week you plan on tire flipping.

also you may want to say your height, weight, current strength level, and goals because i am sure that would effect what tire would be right to start out with.

I flipped tires wile training at this place called IAP(institute of athletic performance)
the tires were like 6 feet tall…monster truck tires…and they weighed a ridiculous amount… if they had thick treads i could flip it…but without the treds for grip i dint have a chance…u flip it once and ur dead…

I’m planning on adding tire flipping possibly on hip-dominant days for weighted GPP. I’ll be performing these later in the day after my weight training. Most likely, I’ll be doing these with a couple of friends. Our heights range from 5’ 8" to 6’ with our bodyweight averaging no less than 200lb. Current strength levels are approximates: 400lb squat, 350lb deadlift, 300lb bench. In most of the pictures I have seen it looks like the tire comes up to about chin-level. I want to increase my work capacity with this Renegade style training as opposed to wasting my life away on the treadmill or elliptical. Thanks for the feedback so far.

Great to see you starting to flip tires. Put it within the pulling/hip dominant ways, as if a Clean or Snatch. Good luck. In faith, Coach Davies

Is tire flipping convenient for you? If not, there are many other things you can do for increasing your work capacity in terms of weighted GPP. If it is then have at it.

It doesn’t seem like anybody answered MH9’s original question. I would also like to know what the approximate height and weight should be of the tire. Also, anybody know where the best place to get them at is? Truck tires look a little small. I was thinking more of tractor tires or various tires from farm equipment. Any info would be appreciated!

I personally have a worn out tractor tire. I think it is a size 23.1 x 26 Check out this site for info on sizes - http://www.galaxytire.com/ agr_reartr_r1.shtml (delete spaces!). These tires are easy to come by in Iowa, just ask any farmer or farm store for worn out tires, they will gladly give them to you. My flipping workout currently consists of flipping the tire 5 times down a very low slope in my back yard and then 5 times back up the slope. I them beat on it with a sledge hammer for bouts of 6 to 8 minutes! Hope this helps! In faith - Matt

Matt, thanks for the info. I’m also going to be do using it for tire flips as well sledgehammer GPP.
