Tips for Better Sleep?

I’ve done all the drugs, and fuckin’ booze for that matter too. Nothing worked as well as being physically wore out, for me anyways.

Train hard, keep your body moving through the day, and eat right and often. Kinda Hulk-Hogan’esque, but it works.

When the body is working right, it sleeps when it’s supposed to.

On a more specific note, develop a routine and stick to it. Get into bed at the same time, create your own breathing techniques (those mentioned previously do help), shuffle through similar thoughts each night, and your body will get accustomed and realize “oh yeah… it’s bed-ti…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz”

Get your body into a rhythem … wake up and go to bed the same time every night … Even on the weekends (sounds lame but it works) … I went through a stressful phase in my life about a year and a half ago that affected my sleep. The nights I got the best sleep during the phase were the nights I was dog tired and worn out (physically and mentally) … Meditation to calm your body/mind works WONDERS, no shit. You have to get your mind and body back on the same track.

Also, sometimes when I have a little fit of insomnia, I’ll rub one out, drink a glass of milk and lay down in my bed and read … I’m asleep in no more than 15 minutes after that. I don’t even like you, OP, but I don’t like insomnia a lot more, so good luck.

Lie to me and tell me you don’t put in “Smell the Glove” when you’re reading too.

no but I do run around with a fake tan and platinum blond hair carrying a boombox blasting “I am a real American” where-ever I go. I even have an assistant who enters a building before me and starts playing it for my enterance. It’s for all my little polo-maniacs

< semi.

I know it’s different strokes for different folks but I find when I bed at say 10:30pm and wake up at 5:00am I find around Friday it’s grulling to get out of bed. Once I sleep in on Sunday with a 9 hour sleep I’m good to go for the week. Perhaps my body is used to that but I always find I just need that one or two days of good sleep and I’m good to go with a shitty sleep pattern only 6-6.5 of sleep for 5 days.

give your girlfriend a brick and call her a dumb slut.

you’ll be out before you hit the ground.

insomnia is a bitch…i’ve had it for years. i used to work graveyard in undergrad and ever since, insomnia is off and on.

things i have done that have helped:

-try to go to bed same time every night
-orgasm before you go to bed…girlfriend or porn

-before bed, eat a moderate amount of carbs, protein, omega 3’s, and milk but not too heavy or spicy
-get really good blinds to block out ALL light (i saw these for the first time in Germany)

-if you can’t fall asleep within 30 minutes, get out of bed and read. as you lie there it seems as if you are really awake, but getting up and trying to read shows you how tired you really are

-no lifting/cardio within 4 hours of sleeping (if you can)
-only have caffeine in the morning

-no alcohol on nights that you need to sleep on time
-dont dwell on any problems or anything exciting…keep pulling your mind back and focus on breathing

–i was suspicious about removing the electronics from the room, but this also helps, especially cell phone

anyway, good luck

oh yeah, melatonin always makes my sleep worse for some reason

If thinking about things keeps you awake, then why not keep a pad and paper by the bed and write things down? It should help ease your mind. There’s also the standard advice of keeping the same schedule as much as possible during the week and during weekends so your sleep patterns don’t get f-ed up, no exercise two hours or less before bed to keep your body temperature down, and trying to keep as many electronics out of the bedroom so the ambient light doesnâ??t keep you up.

Alcohol might knock you out, but youâ??ll wake up in the middle of the night and feel worse than before.

I used to go through the same thing when I was under stress. The writing things down trick worked wonders.

Good luck.

ive been battling insomnia for quite some time, i feel the main cause is when i take a pre-workout sup to close to bed? i really cant put a finger on it. i used to sleep like a baby. now my brain just races when i lay down

i started lunesta(sleeping pill) about a month ago, its pretty amazing.i have no problem falling asleep, but i still seem to wake up around the same time every night, even if its just to walk to pee. i have to get up for a min or so or i cant go back to sleep.

I want to die…lol. So whats the appropiate thing to do today to help go asleep? Should I avoid working out today? And would it be okay to attempt to go bed right now 6pm?

Also I tried that writing everything down thing last night but like whenever i was getting drowzy i tried going to sleep i just started to think about how I would not go to bed…

I read somewhere that glutamine may actually aid in getting good sleep.

My nightly protocol consists of:

400mg chelated magnesium
1000mg calcium
10-20g glutamine

Ever since I’ve done this (started 3-4 weeks ago), I’ve been needing less sleep and have woken up feeling a lot more refreshed.

Don’t take this one lightly. I’ve stopped taking caffeine within 8 hours of when I need to be asleep, and its done wonders for my insomnia.

Also, some people are suggesting eating right before bed, but be careful. Eating about an hour before bed is usually ok for this purpose. However, eating and then immediately laying down for bed can be tricky. This gives me vivid and very disturbing/violent dreams that cause me to wake up. I’ve read theres actually a reason for this, involving chemicals the body releases in response to food.

There is an over the counter med i tried… i think its called sleep time or something like that. Basically it is the drowsy agent found in tylenol PM minus the tylenol, decongestants… etc. I’ve tried it and it worked.[/quote]

Diphenhydramine hydrochloride is the active “sleep” ingredient in Tylenol PM, Simply Sleep and other OTC sleep helpers. It’s also the antihistamine in Benadryl that makes you drowsy. You can buy the generic store brand allergy pills, I get big bottles at Sam’s for a few bucks. The little pink pill is my friend. I take one most every night just to help fall asleep, two if I want to make sure I sleep at least 4-6 hours no matter what.

Also no caffeine after 1 pm, ever.

Always works for me

Good call. X3 on ditching caffeine 6+ hours before intended bedtime.
