Kick ass work with the sumo pulls.
Great news about the knee =)

George, I was definitely in the market for good news!
Nadia, clearly my first mistake was including in my 2011 intentions “don’t get injured”. I was just asking for it.
CBear, indeed I can’t hold my liquor so I have to choose my one drink wisely. Bar fucking could be interesting sport, but I think I’ll limit myself to the barbell-kind. My husband will be relieved to hear this. Love the kitty/moon dynamic.
Snapper, me too. Just a moment of inattention (yet again) leads to potentially serious consequences.
O, that mental image of impalement suits my sick, twisted sense of humor. Thanks for the laugh and the recommendation!
Nikki, anything involving ass has my total attention. Like, perhaps, your avi.
Today I sat around, I watched snow fall and I ate. Sloppy Joes are good blizzard food. Tomorrow I need to train something.
glad to hear that your knee will be better soon. looks like i need to give pull-throughs a try too…
yay for the knee news!

Woof Woof
Do I need to bring the choker?
Hey Kimba, getting caught up…
Sloppy Joes… man I haven’t had one of those since I was a teenager. The good ol’ days when mom took care of everything ![]()
alexus, deja, lil…thanks for stopping by.
print, I now understand your choice of avi. ![]()
giterdone, I am not a cook and will always go for easy-and-delicious over fancy. I often wish for a mommy/wife to have dinner ready for me every night, but she’s never shown up. Bitch.
Today’s training started out with a good hour of snow shoveling. My snowbank is now officially much taller than I am. After the freezing rain started, driving to the gym seemed like a bad plan, so I figured out something at home.
Snatches (inspired by deja)
10# DB 1 x 5, each side <–warmup
19.5# DB 1 x 5 each side
26.4#/12 kg. kettlebell 1 x 3 R, 1 x 1 L – then I stopped because clearly the technique for snatching a KB is different, I don’t know it and I was about to hurt my wrists or smash my watch.
29.5# DB 1 x 5 each side
34.5# DB 1 x 1 each side, failed on the second one on both sides
Haven’t done these for awhile and I need to review the technique.
Wide Box squats to a milkcrate with a band wrapped twice around knees
BW 3 x 10
supersetted with
Chinups
BW = 112 lbs.
6/4/4
Keeping my knees out against resistance is amazingly difficult. lil power suggested these awhile ago to rehab my knee cave and I thought I’d come back to them.
Pushups
1 x 20
One armed suitcase carry around the house until my grip gave out
34.5 DB 1 x each side
This was also surprisingly difficult on my grip. I never train grip, and it shows.
Then I had to go and finish cooking dinner (pork cutlets with BBQ sauce, baked potato, roasted fennel with parmesan cheese.
That menu sounds pretty good for someone who says she can’t cook ![]()
Seemed like it was squat rehab for the both of us tonight my dear.

and here i’ve been sitting around waiting for a self addressed stamped human size box to show up and take me away to be kimba’s mom and wife.
That pesky treadmill is so sneaky!
Glad to hear it wasn’t a major injury…
Suitcase carrys sound deceptively hard.
Frenchy, its not that I can’t cook but more like I dislike cooking and wish food would magically appear. I tend to make very simple meals, but still tasty ones. Roasted fennel is easy – slice it up, put it on a baking sheet, drizzle on some olive oil, salt and pepper and roast for an hour at 400 degrees. Then sprinkle with parmesan cheese and roast for another 5 minutes and there you go! It was very delicious.
deja, the box is on its way! Fun times, that would be…
Betty, I’m still shaking my head over this one: a treadmill injury. How much do I suck??? ![]()
Joe, carrying heavy shit around is hard. Unbalanced its apparently even harder. What I need is a pair of straps and some idea of how to use them.
Today was a rest day/work day. Tomorrow I’m hoping to have another go at heavy rack pulls. Getting 225 lbs. up, even with such a short range of motion is motivating me at the moment and keeping me from being morose about the snow/cold/ice that is my life right now.

I would laugh at the treadmill incident if I hadn’t tried to run off the FRONT of one in the past myself…
225 is going to pop off the boxes no problem.

Good luck with those heavy rack pulls! Deadlifting is so fun. And I have to confess, I know you east coasters are getting schooled by mother nature, but at this point in time, I wouldn’t mind if the world shut down around me because of bad weather. Dare I say, I want a snow day!
Ah…remember when you were a kid and you got a snow day? That was like, the bestest! Morning TV, hot cocoa, going sledding, impromptu play dates. good times…
Kimba, i’m tardy to the party snicker but I love that shirt you’re wearing in your rack pulls vid. Makes you look super badass! And I agree, those just flew up! Can’t wait to see how 225 goes.
Oh dear, I’m so sorry you hurt your foot in a treadmill accident! but i’m glad its nothing serious. I’ve almost killed myself on a treadmill as well (and also got a shirt stuck in the belt and the shirt started burning!). I’m pretty sure there’s a Newton’s 4th Law for treadmill mishaps.
Nice at home training! Love the determination and the creativity! Suitcase carries. Freaking genius!

AHAHAHAHA…klutz!
Damn, I just realized that if you got your shirt caught (klutz) then that could have been your hair (which I covet). No more treadmills for you, mkay?
Woot looking forward to hearing you pull 225#!
Awesome snatches too, strong ish right there.
That roasted fennel sounds amazing. That whole meal sounds awesome.
DCA and Maschy, thanks for making me feel less alone on the treadmill accident situation.
Nadia, snow days are vastly overrated when one has to make up the lost work. But I understand the theoretical allure of them.
So tonight’s training was my showdown with 225 lbs.
Sumo Rack Pulls - 4 risers
BW = 111 lbs.
135# 1 x 5
155# 1 x 5
185# 1 x 3
195# 1 x 3
205# 3 x 3 ← grip starts to be an issue
225# 1 x 2
And up it went! I’m very pleased that I had 2 x bw (my lifetime sumo deadlift goal) in my hands for the first time ever. But I know I can do that better, with less upper body and more explosively.
Military Press
45# 1 x 5
51# 1 x 3
57# 1 x 4 ← rep PR +1 over Sunday’s attempt
I just redid the same weight scheme from Sunday’s training and got an additional rep on the money set. Sweet!
Some quad rehab cable exercises
BSS stretch
Pull-throughs
42.5 plus one plate 1 x 10
My glutes and hammies were already toasted from the rack pulls, so I had to stop here. I’ll have to put pull-throughs on a different day than the rack pulls.
Dips
BW 1 x 20, 2 x 10
supersetted with
Low Cable Rows
70# 3 x 10
Some upper body volume inspired by Nikki to finish strong.
YAHOOOOO! nice pullin!
form looked great too!
